META š£ļø Reddits feed showing me a lot of conservative subs lately.
Is anyone else having this experience lately? It's mostly meme focused subs, but very conservative leaning.

Yeah, I get the weirdest YouTuber based subs suggested to me. I get snarky , they always say, āwhy are you here?!ā āBecause someone is paying to boost your subreddit?

Yep, and sometimes corps change the algorithms to either get more conservatives, or get non conservatives to engage on their website.

It was for a full 6 weeks after the inauguration! I was very irritated and kept reporting them as not interested or show lessā¦

I just get the liberal ones. Tons of them. Would love to limit political stuff just to political subs

Whatās happening just as much as intentional conditioning is that they were doing poorly in the stock market before this tanking so they need to drive engagement so adopted the Facebook model of āwhat will piss this person off enough to engage in some way?ā As rage baiting is significantly more profitable and drives significantly more engagement. Fucking sucks

Huh, so effective that Iām mad about it. Even though I havenāt engaged in Facebook for 20 years. For precisely this insanity.

I just blocked them all.

Yea, I've started doing that, as well

Damn Iāve been so curious about those subs but not enough to go searching.

I just mute them all but the problem comes when a sub is dominated by conservative ideology but itās under an ambiguous banner, like r/portfolios, as a recent one Iāve discovered.

Not for me, yet.. but it's become extreme on fb out of nowhere. :/

No, but some dude blocked me for complaining about bothsidesism and I couldn't be happier.

For some reason Reddit never suggests other subreddits to me anymore. He might be that I have read it premium or it might be a setting where I said don't edit my feed I don't remember.
Whatever the causes it's one of the reasons I'm still here on Reddit versus Facebook.

It suggests more niche versions of my already niche hobbies. Which Iām totally cool with. Knock on woodā¦

Yeah. I noticed this too. I'm in a lot of lgbtq subs normally, and now I seem to get flooded with pretty alt-right-y content. I also get a lot of "Christian" ads. I see this on places like YouTube as well, even from a fresh un-logged in browser page. I never engage with such content either, so I don't think it makes sense too much.

FYI theres a hidden setting somewhere where you can restrict some ad topics.

"Meme-focused" sounds about right; a meme is the extent of their idea of argument.

I pick up the are conservative subreddit sometimes. Yesterday the two top posts were: 1. Hundreds of comments ripping Kamala Harris apart for No reason and saying disgusting things about her. They're all convinced that as bad as things are it would be worse with her and power. A lot of ignorance and hate.
But the second thread I read was actually a lot better. They were All super angry about Trump talking about wanting a third term. I'll talking about how that's the problem with him as he doesn't know when to shut his mouth.

I turned off "Show recommendations in home feed" in Settings a long time ago, so I don't even know what it would recommend me at this point.

If you use the app you can turn off suggested posts.
Settings > Account settings > privacy > enable home feed recommendations (turn this off)

Reddit keeps suggesting me the Joe Rogan podcast subreddit.
I had to refrain from saying anything.
Joe Rogan fans are a bunch of sheep who will call you a sheep for not being a sheep. Itās wild.

Iām just irritated by the constant wallyworld adverts, talking about picnics or some shit. Itās just so out of touch.

Same. I just told reddit to stop suggesting the specific subs and then hid the subs. It stopped after the 3rd one.
I did decide to scroll some of the comments on two of the suggested posts and it was a dumpster fire of fragile-male toxicity and ignorance, pure manosphere group-think by deeply insecure and angry misogynists.

Iām a conservative and I really wish Reddit would go back to being non political. I want to come here to goof off, not get myself or other people triggered.

Itās because your algo suggests thatāll anger you and anger drives engagement
