Users A person with a banned reddit account is posing to a sub I moderate. How?

The posts are automatically removed but I can approve them if I want. But if I go on this persons account it says "this account has been suspended". I just wondered how they are even able to post in the first place?

On Desktop and IOS.

It's a shadowban. They don't know the account is suspended. Don't tell them.

Why shouldn’t I tell them?

The logic behind shadowbans is that a spammer or serial rulebreaker who knows they're banned is just going to make a new account. They won't do that if they don't know they're banned.

We also don't know why they were shadowbanned. It might have been the Reddit bots being a little too trigger-happy. It might have been justified. Better to err on the side of caution. If someone asks me why their posts aren't showing up, I'm not going to play dumb, but most people don't seem to notice. (So far I've only had one person do so.)

Shadowbans are used so that spammers/etc. think they're actually posting and commenting. If they knew they were shadowbanned they'd create a new account and continue doing the things that got them shadowbanned.

If only that were the case and there weren't numerous false positives.

If the posts aren't a problem, approve them.

You might help the member get out of whatever problem they're having.

They won't because they're shadowbanned,so nobody but mods will be able to see it.

Hi /u/wardyms, please see our Intro & Rules. We are volunteer-run, not managed by Reddit staff/admin. Volunteer mods' powers are limited to groups they mod. Automated responses are compiled from answers given by fellow volunteer mod helpers. Moderation works best on a cache-cleared desktop/laptop browser.

Resources for mods are: (1) r/modguide's Very Helpful Index by fellow moderators on How-To-Do-Things, (2) Mod Help Center, (3) r/automoderator's Wiki and Library of Common Rules. Many Mod Resources are in the sidebar and >>this FAQ wiki<<. Please search this subreddit as well. Thanks!

Found match: IOS

You might be asking about setting up subreddits on a phone or mobile interface. The short answer is that subreddit settings work best in a cache-cleared desktop browser. (Limited option: mobile browser on desktop view.)
