Slow Horses, Silo, For All Mankind and Severance are exceptional. Apple TV might not have depth, but they absolutely make up for it in quality.

Is Dark Matter apple tv too?

77

u/PretendThisIsMyName 16d ago

Yeah. That was one hell of a ride too. Honestly haven’t been disappointed in anything I’ve watched on it. Foundation kinda fell apart in S2 for me but that’s it.

u/peoplearecool 16d ago

I love Foundation. Even if it kindnof waffles, it’s so epic that i hope it continues forever many seasons (like The Expanse)

9

u/hanimal16 16d ago

Yes!! I binged the hell out of Foundation.

4

u/RaDiOaCtIvEpUnK 16d ago

All this did is make me sad the expanse didn’t keep going.

The quality took a nosedive in the last (two?) season(s), IMHO. It went from being the single greatest SF show in recent existence to being utterly forgettable. For me, at least.

The final seasons had like two different sets/locations and a lot of heads explaining what was happening. Didn't care much for it.

Listen to the books my man it’s a different story

u/Bojangly7 16d ago

That's crazy season 2 was better in every way than season 1

3

u/MiggyEvans 16d ago

Totally agree. I almost gave up in season 1. The writing got so much better and kept me hooked through season 2. I especially loved the end with Day.

4

u/Drakidd3 16d ago

I read about that too before starting but have to disagree. I like the smaller scope of S1 more than the twenty storylines of S2. Am having trouble getting myself to finish S2.

1

u/Bojangly7 15d ago

Fair enough but every epic opens up as it progresses. It's inevitable. In my opinion the way foundation handle it is among the better.

1

u/LucyBowels 16d ago

The acting is certainly better, too

3

u/hanimal16 16d ago

I’m so stoked for more Dark Matter.

1

u/jettrooper1 16d ago

I love the empire storylines but loath the others, especially the Gaal and Salvor storyline, just so lame and cringe.

1

u/mvkfromchi 15d ago

If you’ve watched season 2 episode 9 of foundation and then said that, I can’t

1

u/HollandJim 15d ago

Foundation picked up speed for me in S2! S1 laid down the universe and ground rules, but S2 was a wile ride, especially watching the Empire fall apart bit by bit. Desperate to see S3 already!

1

u/Bostradomous 15d ago

I love Foundation even if S2 was a bit mid. Did you watch Constellation? I LOVED that series. Really upset Apple didn’t renew it

u/mystictroll 15d ago

Foundation is an abomination that insults the original work.

1

u/SpacecaseCat 16d ago

As a guy who lived in Chicago doing physics, man that show felt like going back and living there again. And then going back again. And again.

1

u/Erixson 16d ago

Loved Dark Matter, just finished it tonight, that season finale was gnarly. Joel Edgerton killed it in this

1

u/Roflrofat 16d ago

I must be in the minority here but that’s the only one that didn’t hit for me - I think I just had a very distinct vision for what it should look like after the book and they went a different direction, glad to see that I’m in the minority here though cause the concept/story is excellent

Don’t forget Shrinking and Ted Lasso!

82

u/HomeAir 16d ago

Harrison Ford in shrinking is like the first role he seems like he's having fun with.

28

u/GregLoire 16d ago

"Harrison, you don't seem to be having fun in your other roles."

::thumps chest:: "My bad."

12

u/SpacecaseCat 16d ago

"Harrison, you get to be grumpy and insult young people and--"

"You had me at being grumpy."

1

u/livewirejsp 15d ago

Apparently Jeff Daniels will be joining as Jimmy’s father in season 3.

3

u/Indo_raptor2018 16d ago

Add Prehistoric Planet to the list too. Dinosaurs are always cool.

17

u/Death_by_carfire 16d ago

I think you mean they have depth but not breadth

6

u/hansislegend 16d ago

Little America is the most slept on show. It’s beautiful.

2

u/Mighty-Wings 16d ago

Thanks I'll give it a go!

32

u/wildpeaks 16d ago

"See" and "Foundation" are excellent as well

5

u/Mighty-Wings 16d ago

Totally forgot they did Foundation! Such an exceptional list.

4

u/Phustercluck 16d ago

I’ve been bingeing silo and foundation with my free 3 months from buying a phone. Amazing shows.

2

u/HeyyyEng 16d ago

"See" was such a cool concept but the Baba Voss gets more and more ridiculous each season.

3

u/No-Advice-6040 16d ago

That's the problem tho. If there is a quality show, but not many of them, I'd be more inclined to sign up for a month, binge, then dump them until they have more. Little to justify being a full time sub.

3

u/Mighty-Wings 16d ago

100%, I'd treat all of the subscriptions as something you pick up, watch what you want, then drop again.

2

u/38B0DE 15d ago

That was my plan as well but I just keep starting a new show. Severance S1 was flying completely under the radar when I started it. Now it's a global hit.

1

u/HollandJim 15d ago

Honestly, there's so much now - so many really good, quality shows and not just 1 or 2 seasons. Love the limited series too - those really wrong foot me (every character is up for grabs) and the payoff often have been fabulous. I don't think anyone can justify saying there isn't enough on TV+ now...it's really picked up scope and speed.

I know it's not cool to support Apple these days, but I subscribe (Apple One play) because I want our money going to something that has value, not just the biggest. The biggest is often 90% slop.

3

u/38B0DE 15d ago

"Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" is among the best series I've ever seen. And barely gets mentioned anywhere. Crazy.

5

u/gregmat 16d ago

You don't think For All Mankind really took a nosedive after season 2?

1

u/kingbrasky 16d ago

I can pinpoint the exact fucking moment it took a dive. Fuck all of that noise.

1

u/gregmat 16d ago

Which one? I can't tell if you agree with me or not lol.

3

u/MiggyEvans 16d ago

Not OP but losing my two favorite characters was rough. And then… there’s that whole creepy storyline I’m sure we all could have done without. Having said that, my viewing experience rocks back and forth like a metronome between “fuck yeah, ed Baldwin!” And “fuck you, Ed Baldwin.”

2

u/gregmat 16d ago

Yeah, I hear you. For me though, season 4 was especially weak.

2

u/kingbrasky 16d ago

When Karen went full groomer.

2

u/fiendish8 16d ago

anxiously awaiting Murderbot

2

u/GiniThePooh 16d ago

I liked a lot Defending Jacob and the Essex Serpent and I feel like no one ever mentions those :( Disclaimer was also great as well as Presumed Innocent.

2

u/Pillow_Fucker_123 16d ago

Foundation is also incredible!!!

2

u/Icy-Inspection6428 16d ago

Prehistoric Planet

1

u/Mighty-Wings 16d ago

Not watched that ,I'll give it a go!

2

u/nicholasdelucca 16d ago

Just binged the first season of For All Mankind after drifting off during the first episode multiple times throughout the years.

It's a great show that start slow, but becomes really interesting.

2

u/Jah_Ith_Ber 15d ago

I don't follow streaming services and have never had one, but didn't people say this about every single one of them in the beginning and then over time they turned to shit?

2

u/MyBadYourFault- 15d ago

You forgot shrinking. Good laughs on that show.

2

u/Axel-Adams 15d ago

I mean mythic quest, Ted lasso and shrinking are top of their field too

1

u/Iohet 16d ago

They're the new HBO now that Zaslav has killed the old HBO

1

u/austinmiles 16d ago

Pachinko doesn’t get the credit it deserves.

AppleTV has very good content that doesn’t feel like is generated by an algorithm for fast likes.

1

u/Ok_Papaya_1005 13d ago

I really really hope Pachinko gets renewed. Such good storytelling

1

u/Shwiftygains 16d ago

So 4 shows justify the price??

3

u/Mighty-Wings 16d ago

Treat it like renting from blockbuster, pay the fee, watch what you want, then return it.

1

u/Second_to_None 16d ago

Shrinking and Ted Lasso are exceptional as well.

1

u/PetitPied21 15d ago

I ended buying the books of Slow Horses

1

u/namisysd 15d ago

Thier movies like Gorge are hot garbage, maybe focus on thier series instead… might save some money.

1

u/Totoyeahwhat 15d ago

Having not watched any, which is your personal favorite or which would you recommend to watch first?

1

u/SensibleTom 15d ago

Don’t sleep on Pachinko

1

u/No_Calligrapher_5069 15d ago

Nah come on, I’m with you on the others but the writing and acting in silo is horrible and the whole concept is stolen from The 100

1

u/SuperRobotPimpJesus 15d ago

Right, thought I was going crazy - doesn't deserve to be mentioned anywhere near the others.

-2

u/S0GUWE 16d ago

I really can't stand For All Mankind, couldn't even go beyond the first few minutes

-3

u/Green-Club5281 16d ago

For All Mankind is one of the worst TV shows they’ve ever made and I watched Bad Sisters S2!

0

u/Freakin_A 16d ago

Uh, Ted Lasso?

0

u/gunmoney 16d ago

for all mankind became laughably bad.
