The Krypto scene was hilarious and showed exactly the sort of dumb shit a dog would do. People will complain about it being too comedic or Krypto not being smart enough to realise Superman is in danger, but Krypto isn't trained as an aid dog so why wouldn't he assume that his (incredibly strong) owner wants to play after a whistle? Gunn choosing this moment to be comedic will absolutely make Krypto a hit with audiences. He knows people will laugh at Krypto and find Clark's frustration relateable. Great scene.

I was already gearing up to be upset as Krypto shows up, swings Superman onto his back and immediately bring him home. I'm so glad the scene went in a different direction.

It also might be a kind of a subtle homage to baby groot from Guardians 2, another Gunn movie. They had a scene where Groot was instructed to go fetch a head fin needed for a prison escape, but he kept misunderstanding and frustrating them

My first thought was to that. I liked it not being a direct copy and just having Krypto being a goober and jumping on Superman

Krypto isn't Supeman's dog in this.

I know, he's likely his cousin's dog. Who Krypto would also know is strong.

It just goes on too long for me. I love Krypto showing up happily oblivious, but when he repeatedly hurts Superman and it takes another 30 seconds before he actually takes him home... that's too far.

Sometimes comedy is just knowing when to cut. Make your joke and move on instead of lingering on and on and on.

It's not really a one and done joke, it's a character moment that's highlighting Krypto's immaturity and Clark's weakness in the moment. It's drilling in the pain and the desperation, not trying to get you to laugh.

I get where you're coming from and I do kinda agree but at the same time I think a disobedient dog gag going on juuuust a little too long is part of the point.

If it's a gag that gets done repeatedly, with the same time problem, then that's where I'd see it as a criticism. But if it's used just this once to full effect then I'm happy with it.

Thank God you're not a writer

I agree this scene was much better when it was the dog simply helping Superman and not jumping around like that

Forced humor is Gunn's style.

There's nothing forced about this. I'd say forced is something more like the Taserface running gag in Guardians Vol. 2 which goes on for fucking ever. This scene here works fine even if you don't think it's funny.

I feel he tries to hard to inject comedy where it isn't either needed or it goes on for too long.

I also feel like he think he's the Orson Welles of superhero movie directors.

If it was just a turd on screen, you'd find a way to say it was a great scene.

Considering I'm critical of some of Gunn's work (GOTG2 specifically) as well as most of the DC movies that have come out in the last decade I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one buddy.

You feel better now? Unnecessary.
