His earlier stuff had me enamored because he was just so different from anyone I had ever seen or run into in my regular life. He also had some genuinely funny roles. But that only lasted a couple years and I've spend far more time knowing him as this type of person.

I just wanna say to anyone out there that used to love him, his ex writing partner and radio co host Matt Morgan is the actual funny one and anyone who listened to his radio show back in the day knows this.

The reason Brand and Jonathan Ross acted like cunts on the radio and prank called Andrew Sachs is because Morgan was on holiday at the time and Ross was filling in for him.

Morgan was the straight man who reigned Brand in.

Matt Morgan's Patreon (with occasional guest, Noel Gallagher) is better than the radio show ever was because you don't have to hear how self-centered Russell Brand is every 5 minutes.

Exactly this.

He should realistically already have a prime BBC Radio spot if not for the Brand connection.

I believe Matt had actually left for good at that point and they just kept saying he's on holiday because they didn't know what to do without him.

I will give credit to Matt also being very funny, but you are undermining how Brand was the x factor that made that show what it was. The chaos and edginess was mostly Brand.

I used to like watching him go off on a tangent and never knowing where it'd end up.  I hope his fame and money can't protect him now.
