I do volunteering to help clean up illegal dumping throughout the Bay Area in California.

That's cool! I bet sitting there picking up trash for 15 minutes isn't super entertaining but awesome and definitely satisfying to see the transformations

it actually puts you in such a zen state, for me it's like playing tetris or doing a jigsaw puzzle

Thank you for the work you do! Would love to know what’s the weirdest thing you’ve found (sorry if you’ve answered it before). My weirdest thing found back when I picked up trash for high school was sopping wet long underwear (when we hadn’t had rain for weeks). Nasty!

God bless you. Fly tippers make me yearn for the extermination of humanity.

Thank you for all you do! Last time we went to SF, we were surprised that it looked so much cleaner than usual!

How do we know he isn’t dumping trash and swapping the order of the pictures?! /s

I saw you post some of these pictures before. Don’t try to cheat. Geez.
Jk I’m happy to be reminded there are individuals out there actively trying to correct our collective trashiness. :)

While I appreciate your efforts it makes me wonder if your entire country is covered with trash or if it's just California? I've never seen trash dumped like this in my country.

It’s not the entire country, or even all of California. What you’re likely seeing is remnants of homeless encampments. Most major metros in the world have this kind of issue to some extent. I’m sure your country is most likely not an exception.

OP has mentioned it's a lot of dumping by local residents and dishonest contractors/junk haulers. It's pricey to get rid of large volumes of trash, so there are some bad actors who just dump out in the open. Sad, but thankfully there are people like OP who are working with local government to fix this nasty problem

That’s fine, but the photos they posted don’t look like what you’ve described there. I’ve lived in downtown Seattle and from my experience, this is exactly how the aftermath of a homeless encampment looks.

Then take photos and upload it for praise

And why not? they aren’t getting paid or recognized for their actions so let them show what they’ve done and maybe it will inspire others to do the same.
