Need a little help here with photoshop...

I am brand new to photoshop or whatever program I would need to create graphics like this. I'v been having a hard time figuring out what these type of graphics would be called and how I would go about creating them. I have a small live comedy business and looking to make some for upcoming shows.

These are some examples http://gyazo.com/62e8732a22b243aebca695393d995636

Thanks for the help guys!

Here are some of the better resources that I've found for beginners and pros alike.

Some of these sites offer both free and paid (premium) services. Paid sites work on a monthly subscription basis for the most part (~$10 per month average).

Recommended Youtube Channels (top 3 are my personal favorites):

Also check related reddits at the bottom of our sidebar like Learning PS and PS Tutorials to name a few.

Happy Learning.

I like You Suck at Photoshop. It's comedy but the lessons are straightforward and helpful.

My Gradient Overlay is not matching up with the layer I selected it with (in terms of its colors) does anyone here know how to fix this?
