I heard that, and I was like “what have you done for him, for him to thank YOU?” He thanked the prior administration before because they helped. But this administration wants him to roll over and accept whatever DT and Putin want (well whatever Putin wants)
I think a big issue here in general is the fact that this wasn’t ‘just’ an interview. It was a meeting. And when the president is meeting with you to discuss terms related to something they don’t even know the date it started on, is so ridiculously embarrassing. Makes me sick to be an American.
He should know it, but even if he didn't there was no need to know it in that moment, he went out of his way to say the wrong year. r/confidentlyincorrect material
Close - it was the first weekend in March 2014 … I only remember because I was in the midst of my first true manic episode, and I more-than-half believed (by a preponderance of the evidence?) that I was smuggling secrets out of Ukraine
Honestly it muddles in my head was it 2008? Or was that Georgia I remember it in the news but Crimea feels not that long ago. I’d have to google, still if I was meeting the leader of Ukraine I’d probably prep a tiny bit and take him at his word on the dates
Perhaps not if you’re a teenager, I guess. But as an adult? Yes, it was an important event of the last 15 years and incredibly relevant to events today.
As a teenager I know it, I remember the night the whole invasion started. But I wouldn't expect most other people to, despite how big of a deal it was/is, not as many people care about world events as much as you may think.
A whole lot of adults barely dealing with their own country, let alone world affairs.
Oh yeah, social media repeatedly makes it clear just how little a lot of people know and care about the world around them. It’s truly their loss. Though sometimes i wonder if actually they’re probably a lot happier not knowing. Ignorance is bliss, right?
In some cases it definitely is. Not always though, plenty of people sit there ignorant on things actively affecting them, then have no clue as to why it happens. World would be better off without that
No. Dates are generally not relevant. By all means remember them if you want, but unless it's birthday of your kids, partner or things like that, I wouldn't bother remembering exact dates.
The point here is to not mention dates if you don't know them. You don't need to know a specific date to know it's been 3 years. Edit: to be clear, I was talking about the full invasion of Ukraine. I didn't even recognize the name 'Crimea'. I only know it as 'Krim', I never read Crimea before.
I have never heard or read 'Crimea' before. I only know Krim. We don't use that name where I live. We use the name the countries themselves have given it, like Krim and Gulf of Mexico.
It's fine if you use that name, I didn't mean to say you were wrong for using it, we just don't alter names of cities and all that, hence I didn't recognize the name.
And while I didn't know it was invaded in 2014, I did know it wasn't 3 years, and that it's been a long time already. I also know it's of great value and importance.
I couldn’t even guess when it was. I might get the year right. Mostly just because I don’t care but also because i only remember things that matter, not useless dates

it was the least humiliating part and it was still absolutely mortifying. How does he not know that? Everyone should know that ffs
Edit - ok maybe not literally everyone, for the pedantic
