it was the least humiliating part and it was still absolutely mortifying. How does he not know that? Everyone should know that ffs

Edit - ok maybe not literally everyone, for the pedantic

I don’t actually know that date. But I would certainly look it up before an interview where such things were being discussed.

Or maybe at least not try to correct someone who 100% knows

31

u/longbowrocks Feb 28 '25

Or at least not try to correct the foremost authority on the planet regarding when it happened.

32

u/Royal-Pay9751 Feb 28 '25

Right, exactly! It’s just so embarrassing. The fucking president of the United States of America.

Ever watch the West Wing?

u/Icy-Town-5355 Feb 28 '25

And JDV yelling that they hadn't been properly thanked. What a flaming sphincter.

21

u/splinter_master40 Feb 28 '25

I heard that, and I was like “what have you done for him, for him to thank YOU?” He thanked the prior administration before because they helped. But this administration wants him to roll over and accept whatever DT and Putin want (well whatever Putin wants)

u/Royal-Pay9751 Feb 28 '25

I know those tactics so well. So manipulative. The worst.

1

u/V57M91M Feb 28 '25

The Couch fucker... please!... Flaming sphincter works well too !!

u/Diligent_Whereas3134 Feb 28 '25

I mean, I don't either, but I'm also a painter. Not the FUCKING PRESIDENT FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!

I think a big issue here in general is the fact that this wasn’t ‘just’ an interview. It was a meeting. And when the president is meeting with you to discuss terms related to something they don’t even know the date it started on, is so ridiculously embarrassing. Makes me sick to be an American.

He should know it, but even if he didn't there was no need to know it in that moment, he went out of his way to say the wrong year. r/confidentlyincorrect material

I don’t, but I’m also not a world “leader” but at least I know the Ukraine didn’t invade itself.

(We talking back in like 2012ish?)

1

u/tears_of_fat_thor Mar 01 '25

Close - it was the first weekend in March 2014 … I only remember because I was in the midst of my first true manic episode, and I more-than-half believed (by a preponderance of the evidence?) that I was smuggling secrets out of Ukraine

2

u/KHanson25 Mar 01 '25

I was totally wrong, I was thinking it was during the summer Olympics but that was the Russian invasion of Georgia, hard to keep it all straight

3

u/fourpuns Feb 28 '25

Honestly it muddles in my head was it 2008? Or was that Georgia I remember it in the news but Crimea feels not that long ago. I’d have to google, still if I was meeting the leader of Ukraine I’d probably prep a tiny bit and take him at his word on the dates

5

u/boosesb Feb 28 '25

Everyone?

8

u/Royal-Pay9751 Feb 28 '25

Perhaps not if you’re a teenager, I guess. But as an adult? Yes, it was an important event of the last 15 years and incredibly relevant to events today.

1

u/Evening_Aside_4677 Feb 28 '25

You are not going to be happy to learn how few adults can spot that date off the top of their head if you asked.

1

u/AUnknownVariable Feb 28 '25

As a teenager I know it, I remember the night the whole invasion started. But I wouldn't expect most other people to, despite how big of a deal it was/is, not as many people care about world events as much as you may think.

A whole lot of adults barely dealing with their own country, let alone world affairs.

1

u/Royal-Pay9751 Feb 28 '25

Oh yeah, social media repeatedly makes it clear just how little a lot of people know and care about the world around them. It’s truly their loss. Though sometimes i wonder if actually they’re probably a lot happier not knowing. Ignorance is bliss, right?

1

u/AUnknownVariable Feb 28 '25

In some cases it definitely is. Not always though, plenty of people sit there ignorant on things actively affecting them, then have no clue as to why it happens. World would be better off without that

u/CrazyGunnerr Feb 28 '25 edited Feb 28 '25

No. Dates are generally not relevant. By all means remember them if you want, but unless it's birthday of your kids, partner or things like that, I wouldn't bother remembering exact dates.

The point here is to not mention dates if you don't know them. You don't need to know a specific date to know it's been 3 years. Edit: to be clear, I was talking about the full invasion of Ukraine. I didn't even recognize the name 'Crimea'. I only know it as 'Krim', I never read Crimea before.

4

u/Royal-Pay9751 Feb 28 '25

I dunno man, I think it’s good to have some basic general knowledge of world events. No one is expecting anyone to remember the actual date.

3

u/shutmethefuckup Feb 28 '25

Crimea was invaded in 2014.

1

u/CrazyGunnerr Feb 28 '25

I have never heard or read 'Crimea' before. I only know Krim. We don't use that name where I live. We use the name the countries themselves have given it, like Krim and Gulf of Mexico.

1

u/shutmethefuckup Feb 28 '25

Sorry, then Krim was invaded in 2014.

1

u/CrazyGunnerr Feb 28 '25

It's fine if you use that name, I didn't mean to say you were wrong for using it, we just don't alter names of cities and all that, hence I didn't recognize the name.

And while I didn't know it was invaded in 2014, I did know it wasn't 3 years, and that it's been a long time already. I also know it's of great value and importance.

1

u/Royal-Pay9751 Feb 28 '25

Bit of a self own there huh 😬

1

u/shutmethefuckup Feb 28 '25

Consistent with his points that dates don’t matter.

0

u/boosesb Mar 01 '25

Go poll ten people nine and a half won’t have any idea what you are talking about Not really that important in the whole scope of things

1

u/Royal-Pay9751 Mar 01 '25

Perhaps you’re just surrounded by other idiots?

1

u/boosesb Mar 01 '25

Very nice. Try it at work. You’ll see I’m correct

2

u/Fearless-Ad-583 Feb 28 '25

Trumpers only hear the words cheetos says. Nothing else.

1

u/ralphvonwauwau Feb 28 '25

They hear what he meant to say. .. and are quite loud insisting on it.

2

u/codespyder Feb 28 '25

The response was worse and telling of his personality

“2014?… I wasn’t there” yeah you weren’t there in 2015 either. What’s your point

2

u/platoface541 Feb 28 '25

Do yourself a favor and don’t check the comments in r/conservative

2

u/Aquarian8491 Feb 28 '25

His narcissism is so pervasive that he doesn’t even realize that he’s a devolved thing .

2

u/barktothefuture Feb 28 '25

Everyone involved in this meeting should 100000% know.

1

u/EMM_Artist Mar 01 '25

Emotionalism isn’t going to solve a war crisis

-1

u/Commercial-Ad3448 Feb 28 '25

I couldn’t even guess when it was. I might get the year right. Mostly just because I don’t care but also because i only remember things that matter, not useless dates

2

u/Royal-Pay9751 Feb 28 '25

cool

American? Right?
