The motivation may be just as much about not wanting to represent the brand as concern for vandalism. I had pre-ordered a Model 3 and was enthusiastic about Tesla and Musk at the time. I wasn't ready yet for an EV when my reservation became available so I had my deposit refunded (thankfully), but I could see myself disguising the Tesla branding on the vehicle just based on Elon's hijinx starting years ago (his behavior during the Thailand cave rescue was when I completely lost respect for him and became disinterested in owning a Tesla).
He’s been a piece of shit for years before this and it’s been well known. If you’ve bought a Tesla in the last 3 years you knew what you were getting into.
It is, but the CEO of the company has locked people out from super charging networks over personal spats on Twitter for years because people complained publicly about the car. He’s lied and charged people thousands of dollars for promised features that ended up being complete vaporware. That’s all been in the news for YEARS. The company itself has never cared about the consumers, only the stock.
Not only that, If I like a particular car I like that car. Not necessarily the manufacturer, CEO, owner, etc.... At the end of the day all vehicle manufacturers seem to have done some really atrocious things.
Vandalizing regular people's vehicles is outright ridiculous.
Yeah sadly this is a thing Tesla owners have been doing since the very beginning, way before Elon became what he is today. Teslas just tend to get vandalized more. Before it was just rednecks who have a weird obsession with hating electric cars.
Pepperidge Farm remembers. First you had to watch out for the rednecks vandalizing your Tesla just for existing, now you have to ask them to watch your car so the tree hugging liberals don't poop on your hood. WTF is wrong with the world we live in?
Elon was obviously what he is today at least as far back as the Tesla roadster. He was just hidden under better PR and presumably less drugs. Or maybe more, who knows.
That is how the nazis win. By making you turn on your neighbors. It doesn't have to be their 'side'. Anything that creates violent division fuels their justifications for martial law.
My neighbor is a like a caricature: a huge, bumbling fat idiot cop. And he has Trump flags. He doubled down after the election and still has a "we took America back" flag. So fuck that guy. Sometimes, the neighbor is actually a nazi.
Yeah. That's true. The question is, do you have compassion for all the horrible things he does and decisions he's made because he couldn't see the way to do anything better?
Do you see him as a valid human being and worthy of love simply because of his inherent value?
Or do you join him in writing off a segment of humanity because they think or appear differently?
That's the question.
It's not about what you do, its the framing with which you approach the clear problem.
I'm polite. And no I don't have compassion, if I'm being honest. I've been treated like shit by cops like him back when I was a junkie. ACAB. He's a blowhard tool, I hear how he treats his wife and kids because his fat ass always has the windows open. I have compassion for his kids.
I still believe human rights are human rights. He's just as entitled to food, shelter, healthcare and education as everyone. I genuinely want him to have those things. But I won't be his friend. I'm polite and nothing more.
Vandalizing personal property is probably one of the easiest ways to lose normies. You know, the people who were swayed to vote trump into office. Why does the left keep trying to self-own itself. I hate the people in my party. You people are as mentally unstable as the right is low IQ.
Sorry but you deserve to get down voted if you think Musk isn't a Nazi. He has literally gone out of his way to prove it on stage while being televised!
I strongly disagree with using this logic to enact acts of violence or vandalism on owners of teslas. However you choose to dress it up that's fucked up human behavior and if you stoop that low, you're trash and i want you off my side.
Probably an emergency plug. It's not really a tesla thing, just an EV thing. Your BIL and his peers probably only view it as a Tesla tool because that's the only EV they recognize or that's all they remember from the brief training session on using it, if they even had one. If they see a Chevy Volt they'll probably never know it wasn't a Cruz.
maybe. and thats still a reason why teslas being accurately labelled helps first responders. I mean changing the labels on your car certainly isnt going to help the first responders.
and i rlly dont know and didnt ask, but dont teslas have their own charging port? would they need adapters? he was telling me that EVs are a huge challenge for them and it just seems like you'd be making that harder by switching the labels, and that seems dangerous to me.
also seems like tools aside having your car clearly and accurately labelled also helps first responders to find your car in an emergency. "Im trapped in a tesla in the school parking lot" cops see a mazda and the kid dies. thats based off a real thing that happened that first responders are supposed to remember and learn from
Hey Xanne, sorry I’m late and you got trapped by car questions. I’m told by my sister and gf that it’s torture for some. Here are the quick and dirty answers regarding EVs catching fire. It’s all about the Lithium-ion batteries. Things that can happen:
When one cell overheats and catches fire, it can cause a rapid ignition of other cells and their off-gassed vapor, causing a fast fiery eruption or at minimum releasing super toxic gasses into the cab of the vehicle. You die.
That same reaction also causes re-ignition issues, as in a soapy water covered char pile can just go right back up almost instantly. It is exacerbated by the fact that fire needs oxygen to burn and those batteries generate oxygen when hot like that. Fresh oxygen, one little spark and boom. You could die, fire responders die.
Lithium-ion cell fires burn at incredibly high temperatures. A regular ICE (internal combustion engine) car at full fuel burn has a max temperature of around 1500°. We don’t know the max temp of EV fires yet but some have been clocked edging up on 5000°. For reference, steel liquifies at 2800°, concrete’s matrix begins to break down at around 1600°, so one EV fire can take down a parking garage. Not a common event, but it doesn’t take a perfect storm either. You and neighbors die.
Li-ion fires burn not just hot but long and strong, requiring 10x the water just to snuff the flames (and can fire back up at any point). They can burn for an entire day, billowing 100 different chemicals into the air, heavy metals, carbon monoxide, and hydrogen cyanide. After they go out, they take forever to cool on their own and can take up to a week if not properly cooled. Responders die from inhalation, earth dies significantly more than the life that was given back to it by driving an EV.
As mentioned earlier, most fire depts just let em burn, cool them, and eventually move them. Most of the “tools” are new to a new market and aren’t great or cost-effective yet, some are just huge. The plug you were mentioning plugs into the charger and tells the computer (if not a puddle) to put the car in park, to stop it from rolling, likely more with innovation. I know some high density cities need to stop the fire and clear the road so they literally pick up the burning car with a huge excavator and dump it into whatever body of water is nearest. The fire depts refer to 3 options for stopping an Ev fire: [let it] Burn, Cool [it with a ton of water], or Submerge [the fiery mess in a local water source]. Rip local ecosystem, jk.
thanks, my BIL also described some kind of blanket they wrap the EV in to try to smother it. you didnt rlly touch on the concern about switching the brand labels though
Rationality is not how we got in this situation... I doubt that expecting rationality at this moment is going to do anyone any good, even if we should hope for it.
Meh, I agree with taking unlawful action against corrupt corporations and/or corporations trying to crawl into bed with federal governance.
Anarcho Capitalists can get fucked, Technocrats can get fucked, any corp and it's leadership that preys on the common man can get right fucked. They're not people.
To add to this - My definition of "growing up" is 100% knowing which buildings are okay to burn
The only car I can justify being vandalised is the cybertruck, cause you know the people who bought it bought it for musk.
The other Tesla's tho? They've been around for years, much longer then musk has been so far of the rails, and for years they've been one of the go to car models for electric/green cars, it's ridiculous that people go and vandalise them for simply wanting a greener car, it's not like they could sell them in this market anyway, and people still owing on them sure as he'll ain't affording other green cars.
Workers at the factories that made crematories for Nazi Concentration Camps were just trying to make money to feed their families. So remember to be nice.

To be frank I think it's sad that owners of motor vehicles need to obfuscate their cars out of fear of targeted vandalism.
Like damn guys. People are people. Fuck with the dealerships / corporate offices - not your fuckin neighbors.
