Unless you're buying a brand new Tesla today, You shouldn't need to distance yourself from Trump and Musk, as if you should have been able to predict a future where a darling of progressive science went off the deep end and became a right-wing sycophant. Going after everything with a Tesla badge is unhinged, smashing up someone's 3-year-old Tesla isn't doing anything to Musk, other than allowing their company to sell more in spare parts. They're damaging these vehicles for no reason other than having something to take their anger out on, not for any political gain.
Why would they even need to distance themselves from Trump? For owning an EV, really? As another commenter said
I hate to break it to you, but Tesla owners tend to be more progressive than the average American. The states with the highest ownership rates are Oregon, New York, California, and Washington - all states that have been reliably blue for the last four decades. And the city with the highest rate of Tesla ownership is Seattle, WA - one of the bluest metro areas in the country.
Musk is an idiot and fascist. But thinking every Tesla driver thinks just like him is also idiotic and only helps to project the fascists as bigger as they are.
That wasn't my point at all re Tesla owners being on board. I'm saying many are apathetic and dont really give a crap re politics is all. Ofc many are doing it politically, EVs aren't exactly popular in red states.
Yeah exactly. It's fucking stupid that people are vandalising other people's property just because Musk is a fucking douche.
Don't buy a Tesla, boycott them, whatever. But if someone owns a Tesla already and is now unfairly facing repercussions because of Musk's behaviour, that is just extremely wrong and the people doing it are doing so for their own gratification.

Are they really distancing themselves from Trump though or are they simply trying to avoid their car getting vandalized?
