I think they are just embarrassed... Like finding out your KKK Grand Wizard Grandfather was gay. Just not cool if anyone finds out.

This would be considerably less disturbing than finding out my gay grandfather was also a kkk grand wizard.

The way you worded your hypothetical made it seem like the shock was only towards the homosexual revelation and no that they were kkk.

I meant as finding out both. But considering it would be a different situation in where the kid is currently living. I made a scenario that you would be fucked over no matter where you are.
