I’ve been thinking about doing this for a few months now but this post today prompted me to finally take the plunge:

Thanks. Posted these pics as a new post to Pics and man all I am getting is hate! People frothing at the mouth to throw me shade beside I was an ultra liberal EV adopter hoping to save the world! lol. It’s crazy how fast my car went from being hated on the right to being hated on the left. Tragic really.

Tesla has had a crazy ride! Previously it was the most hated car from the right, now it’s the most hated car from the left. People who bought them can’t get rid of them fast enough.

I think it’s really sad because people who bought Tesla’s are caught in the middle of this Elon nightmare. It sounds like you’re trying to make the best of a bad situation. Sorry you’re caught up in all of it - especially since the Orange Menace is now a car salesman for “Tesler.”

I thought so! Always wanted Apple to make The Apple Car! But I posted these pics in a new post and damn did I get burned with hate and downvotes in this community!!

I think it depends upon whether you know why an Apple car is the equivalent forerunner of a Swazticar...

That’s the issue. People here are more idealists than realists and they absolutely hate all large corporations, and their anger is everywhere. But the reason everyone is rebranding their Tesla car is not a statement at all about large corporations. It’s to make a statement: please don’t vandalize my Tesla. Look, I am making a clever and obvious statement that I too hate how the CEO is a fascist who is destroying democracy and free speech!

Yeah I hear you, unfortunately I don't think you have really thought through your capitalistic ideals and there inevitable end points. Capitalism is inevitably going to end in Oligarchy and collapse... History teaches us this. Switching brands to one you think is less toxic and you still admire only tries to dodge the issue. You are also just saying "please don't vandalise my Tesla" while still holding all of the same attitudes that got you where you are now.

And that mirrors the idealistic responses I got from almost everyone. To which I say “let he who is innocent cast the first stone”. Every person making furious comments to me was typing on their iPhone, and if they are adults they are driving cars from last capitalistic companies. Not one person on Reddit lives outside of the capitalistic world.

That is true. But a large portion of people do so out of resentment and hatred of the capitalism around them and live as frugally as they can within the capitalism around them. My car is a 14 year old Nissan worth about £3,000 (probably about $4,000) - basically scrap value! I have a car because living without one would be hell in a society that is so aggregeous and greedy and self-entitled that it would be impractical. I'm not responsible for my parents choice to have a fuck. Neither am I responsible for the world they created. I don't even have to endorse what they have done with the place! I just have to live in it.

I think you are therefore similar to me and to most intelligent people who want to just survive and hopefully learn a little along the way with a strong goal to leave the world in a better place than where we started. I’ve always had very old cars and I was taught to repair and fix anything and everything instead of throwing away and replacing. I have inherited a shop full of tools and I have been lending them and fixing neighbor’s cars and appliances since I was a teenager 40 years ago. Later in life when I finally had enough money to buy things I want, I have always chosen things I deemed most reliable and efficient, like my Tesla car which was the brand that finally started the massive technological irreversible shift moving the world from fossil fuels cars to electric. As you probably know the number one factor today polluting our air is not factories or power stations, but vehicles.

It wasn’t my fault that the CRO turned into a fascist far right power hungry lunatic!! Anyway it was nice chatting with a rare civil person on Reddit. And you’re across the Pond too.

Yeah I get you. It's not your fault that the CEO of Tesla has turned out to be a Nazi. Although that became more than a little obvious about 3 years ago and there was writing on the wall way before then! Even a cursor knowledge of Musk's private life tells you that. That said, we all live with the consequences that aren't our fault all the time. Capitalism is literally about who you can screw over for the most money. 🤷‍♀️

And I applaud your ethics around reuse and recycle. Everything doesn't have to be the best money can buy...
