Discussion Discussion Thread: 2024 State of the Union

Tonight, Joe Biden will give his fourth State of the Union address. This year's SOTU address will be only the second to be held this late in the year since 1964 (the second time being Biden's 2022 address).

The address is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. Eastern. It will be followed by the progressive response delivered by Philadelphia City Council member Nicolas O’Rourke, as well as Republican responses in English (delivered by freshman Alabama senator ) and in Spanish (delivered by Representative Monica De La Cruz). There will be a separate discussion thread posted for live reactions to and conversation about the SOTU responses.

(Edit: The discussion thread for the SOTU responses is now available at this link.)

Biden is on fire. Does he stutter at times? Yes, but his content is on point. Speaker Douchebag behind him can't stand it. He's like, "I've done fucked up taking this job."

Yup! And the stutter comes when he gets impassioned - like he's so excited to get the words out he stumbles a bit. I'm okay with that.

Yes! It shows passion.

I'm 37 and do the same thing in my job which is not nearly, not nearly as important.

I was about to reply same. Same age even. I took speech therapy in elementary school, pretty sure I didn't have dementia back then.

Speech writers did him dirty with the alliteration there at one point 😂

No doubt the trump team will use that in the debates, interrupting and instigating to try to trip up his stutter

Probably - like the manipulative, abusive bullies they continue to choose to be.

At least he’s clapping occasionally, unlike many of his colleagues

Remember McCarthy sitting there sulking until he was tricked into clapping for social security?

At times, but he's like, "Is Pappy Trumpy gonna insult me for it.

Yeah agreed. There was some things in their that everyone should have agreed with but crickets.

Yeah, his was an interesting performance. I think he realized this was the actual big time.

Does he stutter? Who tf cares? Only right wing nuts that punch down.

u/DawgPound919 Mar 08 '24

Right! It's not a fault.

Have they not heard the Kings Speech?

12

u/StrangeContest4 Mar 08 '24

He's talking directly to Mike Johnsons core, and Mike Johnson is melting before our eyes.

Mike was agreeing with a lot of what Biden was saying. I was honestly surprised how many times he was nodding in approval.

I was saying the exact thing. Love it, this is the energy he needs to present and he brought it!

u/garibaldi18 Mar 08 '24

I would stutter too if I had to speak for 90 minutes straight until 10:30 pm and I’m not 81

2

u/coordinatedflight Mar 08 '24

Smug motherfucker. That's all I could think.

He looked sooo uncomfortable.

I do think his stutter has probably gotten worse as he’s aged, and that’s fine. I want to live in a world where we elect the smartest, most qualified people, not populist ones who speak like snake-oil salesmen.

Well Speaker Douchebag can be an adult and actually do his job instead being a paperweight

We are talking about Biden, not Trump though?

This loser’s trying that line all over this thread. Talk about a lack of creativity; can’t even change the line after copying and pasting

We're supposed to take you seriously with that username? No.
