Soft Paywall The Biggest Scandal of the Second Trump Term Isn’t “Signalgate” | The national-security chat debacle certainly merits attention. But the Trump administration is now blatantly disappearing students and others who are in the country legally.

Things have reached a point where we need to seriously consider setting up a communication network that isn't on Reddit, three people have died in detention, two in Miami. The Underground Railroad should come back.

Edit: Double checked the number of deaths in the past three months, it was not three in Miami but rather two in Miami and one in Arizona. Genry Ruiz Guillen, Maksym Chernayak, and Serawit Gezahegn Dejene were their names. The links are their death reports.

Agreed. The Great Lakes are littered with old hidden boat launches and the like, probably dating back to the Prohibition era. There’s an old little concrete boathouse near me that might be pressed back into service with a little elbow grease.

Ok, but where will they go?? It's winter still and a boat might launch but would need to take someone somewhere. Like, where to are we gonna hide half a million immigrants?

Hi. Northern neighbor here.

We're happy to help the needy, but we would love to see you doing at least a little bit of solving your own problems.

We have had more than enough of your problems being made into our problems.

You are quite mistaken sadly, Canada hate immigrant just as much sadly. We are lucky, PP might not get elected this time, but the ones that support theses views are still here in big numbers.

Why is nobody doing this?

We need to organize, yesterday.

Most people don't know how to organize without a cellphone because Technology while strong has made us weak in the fields previously used.

In order for this to be done you need to ditch phones. Never speak it out loud In a Room with any electronics. Never have communication go through mail. If you're hand delivering it you have to be careful about what kind of car you use because cars with built in nav can be tracked. Paper maps ONLY. Ring doorbell? Camera, microphone etc. You basically have to think like a crazy person to hide things of that scale and it has to be done without fucking announcing it on the internet.

Just a reminder to unplug ALL your alexa devices. As of March 23 all voice recording will be saved ant sent to Amazon

what about google

1

u/Illustrious-Fig-2612 8d ago

Google saves interactions that you can manage. Alexa is now saving everything regardless of interaction. It means your echos etc will always "be listening" and storing everything said around them.

1

u/mytransthrow 8d ago

I thought google only listens for the ok google before turning on the mic to listen

1

u/Illustrious-Fig-2612 8d ago

That's what I mean by "interaction". Sorry, if that was unclear. Google also allows you to edit and change your voice saving permissions unlike alexa.

Agreed. I work in tech, and I've always had a little paranoia based on what I've seen.

But without using the internet, you limit your reach and, therefore, your scale.

It's almost like we need a new medium that can organize people without using the fascist controlled platforms.

u/h3lblad3 8d ago

For the same reason you’re saying “we need to organize” instead of actually doing it.

The internet has created a performative space where one can vent their frustrations among likeminded people. Saying things like “we should do the thing” fulfills your need to contribute — even though it isn’t a contribution — thereby effectively deradicalizing you.

Look my guy, I'm ready to get out there and start the dialog on what needs to be done.

But I'm just a regular guy. I don't have any superpowers. I don't know how to do this sort of thing. All I know is that it needs to be done.

What you are saying is less than helpful.

There are people ready to organize, surely there are some leaders out there ready to guide us on how to do that.

1

u/goodshrek1 4d ago

"Surely"- why? There are no superpowers. There is no organizer school. The person who replied to you is absolutely correct; people who could be organizing are living in loops of "see bad news -> say "why isn't anyone organizing" -> be content with "starting the dialogue" -> scroll to next bad news."

If you don't know how to do something, but you need to do it, what do you usually do? Do you Google it? Do you look up a book about it? Do you reach out to a friend, do you make a groupchat and ask about it? Why not do any of these things now?

The person who you're waiting on to save you- why shouldn't they just wait to be saved? Why shouldn't everyone just wait on each other forever?

Stop waiting. TRY something you haven't before, learn from it, see what you can change. There's no superheroes. There's just regular guys. What happens depends on whether you do something different or choose to stay the same.

Because US Americans aren’t the gun-slinging anti-tyranny fighters they imagined themselves to be for decades but cowards more complacent than most people on the planet. This moment in time is the acid test for freedom and US Americans have been found wanting.

Go on...

I'm really not sure the best way to fight back here. I'm a regular dude who has lived a regular life.

Just spitballing but maybe we need some kind of local networking.

Anyone thinking of doing this, which you should if you can, for the love of god do not plan or discuss it online. Not even hypothetically, not even expressing support. Once they start looking for people hiding immigrants, they will start with anyone that's talked about it online.

Understand that this isn't the America you grew up in anymore. In person meetings, no phones or electronics devices present, nothing written down, nobody you don't know personally.

Good luck and god speed.

Yeah, it's weird anyone still uses Reddit as if their IP addresses aren't being logged.

It’s not a coincidence that posts about musk trying to control the speech on Reddit keep getting taken down.

People are already doing this.  Check out the Fediverse, which is a decentralized social media protocol.  There’s already several applications that utilize it.  Lemmy, for example, was developed as a Reddit alternative.  Mastodon was developed to replace Twitter.

They are also about to sell the frequency ranges for ham radio, which will take away an alternative form of communication.
