People don’t realize what happened in the south after the Civil War was like if we allowed the Nazis to enter political office again and allowed the SS and gestapo to continue terrorizing and lynching Jews in the streets while passing laws that prevented them from owning property or voting. The civil rights movement fixed some of it, but America never rooted out the evil that allowed the confederacy to happen in the first place.

Here we are centuries later reaping what has been sown for a long time coming, with social media, climate change, and the legacy of COVID accelerating everything.

People know about the civil war and the revolution it brought. A lot of people learn about the KKK and Jim Crowe laws. Not a lot of people realize that they were the direct response to the civil war. My history book even referred to it as the period of counter revolution when I studied both US history and the Civil War in college

Depends. If Trump wants to be the undisputed king of the country, letting all the blue states walk makes that very easy.

Techno-oligarchs get a playground to despoil, while getting to retreat to nice places that they don't have to pay for. Russian oligarchs don't spend much time in Russia for example.

Finally, Putin had one of his more overt puppets float the idea of California seceding around the time of Trump's first term. So the one whispering in his ear might see US balkanization as the ultimate goal.

Doubtful, she's more interested in fucking around with congestion pricing in NYC... Because us NYers don't already pay out the nose for literally everything under the sun...
