I actually think they are going to convince them this is good for them in the long term...and they are going to eat it up. Sacrificing for the "mission" even though it is never quite clear what is the mission. It's whatever Trump decides on a given day. It's to stop fentanyl, fight drug cartels, it's to stop terrorism, fix bad trade deals, it will change.

You have to understand their followers go to church every Sunday and lap up whatever their pastor tells them. They are very used to following orders from incoherent leaders. They will eat up the biblical message from a pastor flying in private jets and living in mansions. They are literally incapable of critical thinking.

At first glance, I would say, "nobody is that stupid". But then again...

u/absentmindedjwc 1d ago

I honestly don't know. The fact that cracks are already starting to form within the GOP itself tells me that they're seeing polling numbers pointing to their supporters knowing full fucking well that this is their fault - especially with them being so damn candid about it.

Republicans - specifically MAGA republicans - have no empathy... but as soon as shit starts seriously impacting them personally, they tend to open their eyes to what is going on. For example, my hardcore MAGA aunt called me this morning because her retirement account has lost like 15 percent and now she doesn't know if she'll be able to retire for another ~decade. She actually commented on how pissed off she was that the news and Trump were telling her that "its for the best"... which is fucked messaging because these people legitimately don't care about "the best for the country", only what's "the best" for themselves.

She's pissed off because, for once, she actually listened to someone telling her what a tariff actually is, and why its fucked her chances of a retirement.

People like Rand Paul and Ted Cruz being so fucking blunt about this tells me that far more than my aunt are starting to ask questions and actually listen. Because the "its going to hurt for a little while" only goes so far.

At least... this is my hope.

u/ShamrockAPD 1d ago

Hey. My parents are Deep maga

They aren’t complaining at all. For some mine your aunt, I hope it’s the majority.

But sadly I feel the majority will be like my parents - they stick their head in the sand and everything other than Fox News is fake news.

34

u/PlanetValmar 22h ago

Yep, a good percentage have no retirement, have no savings, and have no skin in the game that is Wall Street, so really only the inflation part is hitting them. Of course, that’s about to get a lot worse.

4

u/ChimcharFireMonkey 17h ago

a good percentage have a lot of retirement, a lot of savings AND no skin in the game that is Wall Street

that's one group smugly supporting this

3

u/FargeenBastiges 19h ago

My MAGA cousin last night said "we're the most spoiled country in history" followed by "we're constantly getting bent over" and we deserve this wake up call for our country to become "really" rich.

Wasn't worth it to debunk every sentence said. I just asked how, exactly, he thinks that wealth gets down to him given the benefit of the doubt? His employer just magically decides to pay him more?

Yes. His employer magically decides to pay him more.

2

u/mdp300 New Jersey 18h ago

A guy I know posted a long thing about how the experts were wrong about covid, masks, vaccines, various other things where the experts weren't actually wrong, so we should also ignore all the experts saying that this will be a catastrophe and trust Trump.

It's a cult.

3

u/FargeenBastiges 18h ago

I know. Put tubes down a lot of these expert ignoring morons in the ICU.

1

u/PsyRealize 12h ago

Meanwhile maga trying to remove minimum wage and child labor laws.

Make it make sense

3

u/Reading_Gamer 19h ago

My family is currently at the blindly rationalizing state. It'll work itself out. The daytraders aren't panicking, so we are obviously fine (Not sure where they got that source, cause they obviously are). Everybody is panicking because Trump is doing his job. Clearly, they are malicious actors.

3

u/Hfksnfgitndskfjridnf 18h ago

Yup, not all selfish, narcissistic delusional morons are ride and die MAGA. They are only MAGA until it fucks them in the ass.

There are millions of people who voted Trump because they’re assholes, but they ultimately only care about themselves, not Trump.

2

u/ferthun 17h ago

My dad went to Canada and was talking about how great everything was and the meals were cheap and delicious. All the stuff there was awesome… it will make a great 51st state. Instantly angry

1

u/Main-Algae-1064 15h ago

Well, hopefully they like working their whole lives.

17

u/cytherian New Jersey 1d ago

May your aunt's epiphany moment ring and replicate across the entire base. They need to realize they've been very badly conned by Trump and his prized influencers (like Rogan, Bongino, Kirk, etc.).

47

u/733t_sec 1d ago

It's just because it's Rand Paul and Raphael's turn to play controlled opposition. There have been cracks in the GOP before but they've never amount to more than trivial support for anything that won't pass anyways

44

u/HelpfulDescription12 Nebraska 1d ago

I don't think this is Rand just taking his turn as controlled opposition. He's a libertarian style republican and is ideologically opposed to tariffs. This is actually something he really believes in, Cruz on the other hand is probably just reading the tea leaves and knows the tariffs are politically toxic for them right now.

22

u/Cerberus_Aus Australia 1d ago

He’s not ideologically opposed to tarrifs. He’s ideologically opposed to losing money, full stop.

9

u/MaddyKet 1d ago

Or Cruz won the monthly game of rock paper scissors to see who gets to pretend to be against the agenda. Last month it was McConnell.

2

u/Hfksnfgitndskfjridnf 18h ago

Cruz is a bitch. He hates Trump but went along with him because that was the best move politically at the time. There is no real loyalty to Trump except for the cultists. Cruz, whose father killed JFK, will turn on Trump the second it benefits Cruz. Plenty of others in the GOP will do the same.

1

u/deedeeing 22h ago

Rand is from Bourbon country and his people are deeply affected with Canada pulling KY Bourbon from the shelves.

1

u/733t_sec 15h ago

Rand Paul isn't libertarian and seems to be completely onboard with authoritarianism given his willingness to be an errand boy for Trump and Putin

https://www.politico.com/story/2018/08/08/rand-paul-delivers-letter-to-trump-from-putin-766743

1

u/revdon 15h ago

Good on ya for using Raphael’s Birth Certificate Name! I’m sure Addison McConnell and Willard Romney will be thrilled.

11

u/Hopeful_Turn2722 1d ago

I agree with you ,the town hall screaming is the rage starting

2

u/EaZyMellow 1d ago

But let’s remember, “cracks” were there since Krasnov ran for office. In 2016, he wasn’t part of the establishment, he would ruin the establishment, so they try to undermine him in primaries. Once it became obvious, they fell in line. In 2020, there were debates with how he was managing the pandemic, Republicans also shutting down businesses to prevent the spread. Once it became known that he lost, they fell in line and started pushing his message because that’s who their voter base listens to. In 2024, there were issues with how he undermined and threatened US Democracy, how many people fell behind Harris? Once it became known that she lost, they fell in line and people who were never-trumpers all-of-a-sudden were his biggest fans. The Republican Party has a virus eating inside of itself, and that virus is Trump. The Republican Party as a whole doesn’t want to damage itself, because that admits to itself that it isn’t perfect. That’s why they defend pedo’s like Gaetz in public. That’s why catering to the virus gives them “better” protection from the virus. There are no cracks, there is a seismic shift. Some pieces will fall, but it isn’t going to splinter like we’ve been told for almost a decade now.

2

u/OfficeSalamander 23h ago

Yeah, I think the rapidity at the onset of these changes make it pretty clear it’s Trump’s doing, even to hardcore MAGAs. Like it’s pretty hard to blame it on Biden when they literally announce massive tariffs and you see two days of absolute market free fall with no end in sight immediately after. Trump voters may have disliked the inflation that happened under Biden (which they incorrectly attributed to him, rather than post covid inflation that affected the whole world) but this is a whole different beast - this seems like it’s leading to a full on economic collapse, with massive tariffs all over the globe.

We went from a period of mostly stability to absolutely chaos, with a pretty clear demarcation line that is so stark and so quick it’s hard to deny, even for the diehards

2

u/oVnPage 17h ago

My mom is losing her fucking mind that all of their retirement money is vanishing and is PISSED at Trump. My dad is still full MAGA.

I tell them both they got what they deserve when they try to bring it up. None of what he's doing was kept a secret, they knew full well this was what he was gonna do and voted for it anyways.

I have sympathy for my fellow liberals, and even for republicans that didn't vote Trump. I have ZERO sympathy for the morons that voted for this clown knowing full well who he is and what he was planning. They've destroyed the country.

1

u/absentmindedjwc 9h ago

My parents are good friends with a dual citizen American/Mexican who fucking love(d) Trump. Dude is suddenly pissed off at him because his southern florida construction company is collapsing because he's not able to find workers.

Like.. dude.. he literally said he was going to do this, you're just getting what you voted for.

1

u/elizabethptp 18h ago

I hoped this too but my mom who can’t stand Meghan Markle says she’s sure he has a plan with these tariffs even though it “might seem bad”

I had to ask her to please stop. She’s entitled to her wrong opinion but I plan on caring for her until she’s dead & not hearing it will make that easier for me. I’m allowed to be a little selfish here & there & ask an absolute loon to stop talking nonsense.

1

u/Kendertas 15h ago

It's going to be a tough spin when you ran on "economy is going to boom on day one" and then when in power say "things are going to have to get bad before they get better". I think they are vastly underestimating how stretched the average American is already.

But weirdly I think TV/phone/computer prices going through the roof might have one of the biggest impacts politically. A lot of people are only holding it together mentally through the dopamine hit modern entertainment gives you. Especially in the rural heartland that is going to be hit the hardest by these tariffs. Going to be a lot of unemployed, highly armed people with no real source of entertainment.

1

u/absentmindedjwc 9h ago

"Before they get better" means "when someone else comes in and fixes his mess"

66

u/PennCycle_Mpls 1d ago

Remember back in November when everyone was screaming "it's the economy stupid" and "look at the price of eggs" and Democrats still fell for the idea that Republican voters are honest.

They're not. They don't care. They're sadists.

22

u/Frowny575 1d ago

And idiots. While the Dems are not without fault, for at least 40yrs or so the Republicans have openly screwed over anyone not rich. I can get not understanding economics, but how can you be bent over for so long and not freaking realize it?

6

u/leon27607 22h ago

That’s the whole fucking reason ppl don’t vote or vote 3rd party. You can call them “single-issue” voters which is a terrible way to think. How many people do you meet/interact with who will agree 100% with everything you say? I don’t think there is one. The same logic needs to apply for political parties, pick the one that best aligns with you, it doesn’t have to be fucking perfect.

I’ve considered myself mostly “moderate” with left-leaning views but there’s 0 chance I support anything in the MAGA sphere. There are some issues with Dems I don’t agree with but that doesn’t mean I won’t vote for them. Especially now, where look at the alternative…

3

u/oVnPage 17h ago

As amazing an invention as the internet is, and as much good as it's done for the world as a whole... It's definitely at least partly to blame for this.

Used to be that the kind of people that compose MAGA these days were just seen as the village crazies (minus the racist side which has always been loud in the US). They would yell and rant and spew their hate on street corners, but nobody really paid them any mind. And every village had 1 or 2, so they didn't have any real influence.

Nowadays some of the village crazies started YouTube channels that spoke directly to all the other village crazies, and started hiring professional editors, directors etc. to manipulate their content so it doesn't look as unhinged as it really is. Which attracts more people, etc etc.

The Internet has done a whole host of wonderful, incredible things. I wouldn't have met my wife, for example, if it didn't exist. But it's also brought about a new level of human stupidity caused by all the manipulative media online.

u/Frowny575 3h ago

That is very on point. These people always existed but were somewhat isolated so the damage was minimal. But now they have whole platforms (Twitter etc.) to spread their nonsense.

1

u/Key-Decision8270 21h ago

They like taking it up the ass with no lube?

1

u/PizzaWhole9323 1d ago

Don't forget pedophiles they sure seem to like their underage children dating sites. Oops I said too much.. ;-)

14

u/ComprehensiveCoat638 1d ago

Yeah, stupidity has been hitting the gym and taking physique enhancing drugs over this past decade.

25

u/jarchack Oregon 1d ago

When I was growing up, conservatives looked up to intellectuals like William F. Buckley Jr. and Charles Krauthammer. I didn't agree with their take on most issues but at least they had some considerable writing and rhetorical skills. Now, the entire GOP worships a complete moron. And even if they actually think he's a horse's ass, they still do his bidding.

14

u/hellolovely1 1d ago

YES! They were smart guys, even if I didn't agree with their takes.

But I look at conservative pundits now and they are incredibly incoherent, malicious, and often very dumb.

3

u/little_lamps 1d ago

"Malicious" is the perfect word to describe this sack of fuckwads

2

u/Jojofan_lol 1d ago

On the contrary, Republicans do have better rhetorical skills than most of those authors, given that’s all that an empty discourse devoid of any logic can have; hence why their use of pathos and ethos is incomparable. Then add to that the fact that they write and speak in a more accessible manner, that they’re charismatic and have the right tools to spread their message; and you end up with an unstoppable, persuasive populist party. To make matters worse, people take information as it is thanks to how well educated they are.

2

u/chowderbags American Expat 23h ago

Yeah. Even on the mass market side, I'd be happier dealing with people listening to Rush Limbaugh than I am with people who binge listen to Joe Rogan. I fucking hate what Rush Limbaugh did to a lot of people, but at least he didn't hide who he was. Joe Rogan's "just asking questions" shit while having literal fascists on his show is far more insidious.

2

u/DeviceBorn7651 1d ago

If you go into the conservative sub, a very good number have this mindset. It's absolutely braindead

Could you imagine if Obama or Biden caused a crash like this? The (deserved) uproar from the right?

2

u/Vienta1988 1d ago

Did you see how many millions of people voted for Trump that honestly thought this is better than whatever Harris would have done?

2

u/Spiderbanana 1d ago

I've seen an article last month (I don't remember the journal, but it was international) theorizing the GOP will track the economy on purpose really in their term, and hoping that it will hit Rick bottom and start going up again and 6 months before either mid terms or next presidential election. This they can then claim, betting on voter shirt term memory, "See, what we do is working, the economy is growing again after we inherited the worst situation in decades"

2

u/ratlunchpack 1d ago

Check out arr conservative. That’s literally the narrative they’re already selling themselves.

2

u/VeryGoodFiberGoods 1d ago

Remember megachurches literally praying to Trump and having their choirs sing about how great and holy he is? People are definitely that stupid.

2

u/Grizzly_Berry 1d ago

Oh, I'm seeing a frustrating amount of "No pain, no gain," "They have to fix all of the Biden mismanagement before it goes back up," etc comments from people that think this is all according to plan and the market will correct, skyrocket, and we'll all be rich.

2

u/GaimeGuy Minnesota 1d ago

They voted for him after he violently attacked the US Capitol.

They're not americans. They're republicans.

1

u/Dr-Mumm-Rah 1d ago

Republican voters: "Fool me once, shame on, shame on you. Fool me...you can't get fooled again!"

1

u/-Rush2112 Michigan 1d ago

I already heard my maga colleague spewing this bullshit. Comparing the tariffs to chemo for the economy, as if the economy is sick or some shit.

1

u/Key-Decision8270 21h ago

all because they refuse to admit that they’re wrong. It’s pathological.

1

u/dpdxguy 1d ago

It's less stupidity and more cult behavior.

Even smart people can be susceptible to emotional arguments unless they're on guard. And no one is on guard against their "spiritual leader."

1

u/Key-Decision8270 21h ago

They’re not mutually exclusive.

1

u/dpdxguy 15h ago

They're not. But they're also not identical.

1

u/No_Remove459 1d ago

When the economy is good it's all we hate liberals, but when it's bad, 401k dropping then they don't care about trans, and god forbid we don't get stagflation.

1

u/shred-i-knight 1d ago

some people will believe it but of course this is going to hurt them massively. Nobody likes having their money fucked with. There are a lot of people who think Trump was going to repeat his first term and say a lot of shit on twitter but still make them money in the markets or lower rates. Not looking like a good bet.

1

u/matthieuC Europe 21h ago

"We just went through the worst of it, it would be stupid to change course just when it's going to pay off"

1

u/jarchack Oregon 20h ago

Said the scorpion to the frog

1

u/karma_dumpster 18h ago

Evidence is not on your side

2

u/jarchack Oregon 16h ago

"Evidence? What's that? Never heard of it. And if I do hear of it, I will just ignore it." That should be in the thought bubble over the heads of most Trump supporters.

1

u/karma_dumpster 16h ago

Thought? What's that? Never heard of it. I just parrot what I'm told.

1

u/No_Discipline6265 17h ago

I was on Facebook earlier trying to see what event is happening in my rural TN town today. As I'm scrolling my husband keeps repeating, "you're looking to see what's happening in town, not to fight with stupid people in town". Then I see a post that says " Just a reminder of the tariffs Canada imposes on the US" and list things like Turkey-28%, Milk-88%, etc, etc. I showed it to him and he asked if I replied would I be in a good mood today or would I rant all day. I looked in the comments and saw someone say how "the libs" won't work all the manufacturing jobs and buy US made products in a couple of months when the economy is booming from the tariffs. So, I told him I'd probably rant all day. He gently slid my phone out of my hand. I'm still ranting about stupid people though.

1

u/chill677 16h ago

“They are eating the pets”…. Yes that stupid!

65

u/Worth_Much 1d ago

Yeah. The message is, sure your retirement is gone and you may lose your house, but in 10 years we’ll have so much manufacturing back in the USA you’ll forget all about this while you’re slurping gruel in a homeless shelter.

40

u/Randomcommentor1972 1d ago

For an economy that wasn’t about manufacturing anyway

19

u/hellolovely1 1d ago

And all the workers will be replaced by automation in like 5 years.

7

u/Prestigious-Win9116 1d ago

They’ve already been deported

3

u/ThomasToIndia 20h ago

USA has tons of manufacturing, just not of cheap stuff and it is done by automation. Manufacturing doesn't create jobs anymore.

10

u/TheVoiceofReason6 1d ago

Or working 80 hours a week at a horrible manufacturing job.

4

u/Away_Worldliness4472 1d ago

Enjoy starting a factory job at 60!

2

u/tanmanX 23h ago

I work in a beverage factory, there are already more that a few grandmas here.

1

u/ijzerwater 19h ago

from a nice services job in IT before

3

u/Key-Decision8270 21h ago

But earning no overtime, which will no longer exist thanks to Trump and the GOP, sleeping in your van in the parking lot at work.

3

u/bryan49 1d ago

That manufacturing will either be done by robots or extremely low paid humans

3

u/chowderbags American Expat 23h ago

The crazy thing is that if America wanted to increase manufacturing export value, it would make way more sense to focus on incentivizing high tech stuff like pharmaceuticals and semiconductors and complex machinery. But all that stuff requires educated people and highly skilled workers, and those types of people are usually harder to fool. Oh, and it doesn't benefit the yokel out in West Virginia who thinks coal mining jobs are going to come back aaaaaaany day now.

2

u/hellos123 22h ago

There won't even be homeless shelters in that world.

2

u/duzies 22h ago

You think there will be homeless shelters?

1

u/Magificent_Gradient 16h ago

But damn did we make the liberals cry so hard which makes losing everything and becoming destitute so worth it!

1

u/billsil 14h ago

Maybe that’s the play? We were at 4% unemployment and people were saying where will all the workers come from for those manufacturing jobs. Make them come out of retirement…

1

u/Worth_Much 14h ago

The unemployment rate that they release every month isn't the true unemployment rate as it doesn't reflect people who are unemployed and not actively seeking employment or people working shitty part time jobs that would like a full time role.

1

u/billsil 14h ago

Why wouldn’t you be looking if you were unemployed and didn’t want to be unemployed? It has also always included shitty jobs.

We had an unemployment rate of 4.1%. It can only be as good as the data it has, so you wanting to leave your part time job doesn’t count. The line has to be drawn somewhere.

Regardless, with the stock market tanking, retirements are being wiped out. Retired people will go back to work. The unemployment rate will rise due to previously retired people returning.

1

u/Worth_Much 14h ago

1

u/billsil 13h ago

Again, you have to draw the line somewhere. You drew it differently. Regardless, the unemployment rate is going to skyrocket.

1

u/Worth_Much 13h ago

I'm not disputing that. My point was that the official number doesn't really paint a wholly accurate picture of the employment situation as you were saying that with a low number where are all the workers gonma come from to fill all these magical new manufacturing jobs. That 4.1 number will indeed skyrocket.

"I ask you: Do you want total [trade] war?! Do you want it, if necessary, more total and radical than anything that we can yet today even conceive?!" MAGA cheers follow (that is a Goebbels quote which is meant to warn here, not encourage) Edit: for clarity, which somehow feels necessary, Ted Cruz did not to my knowledge quote Goebbels

36

u/Far_Eye6555 1d ago

Texas elected official was quoting Goebbels earlier this week!

38

u/killrtaco 1d ago

In front of congress in an officially recorded meeting. No shame. No stutter. No wince. Just quoted like it was normal and then called out (briefly and feebly) by a single congress woman.

Sad times we live in.

5

u/cytherian New Jersey 1d ago

It's un-fucking believable.

1

u/Key-Decision8270 21h ago

Who tf did that?

Keith Self

Texas Republican

Not necessarily in the context saying Nazis are good. I mean comparing anti disinformation to “the real Nazis” is really bad and par for the course right wing tactics but it’s not exactly supporting fascism.

1

u/VeryGoodFiberGoods 1d ago edited 1d ago

…right, but he still memorized and used a Goebbels quote. He could have said what he was thinking in his own words, but he decided to quote a horrible Nazi. And calling anything other than actual Nazis “the real Nazis” completely undermines and downplays how actually awful and terrible the Nazis truly were. But no, I’m sure he thinks fascism and Nazis are bad, you’re right. /s in case that’s necessary

When a t-shirt at Walmart cost $50, cult or not, they will be fed up

When they can’t afford guns at Walmart that’s when it will hit them.

2

That's it! And Guns prices are going up already.

Not to worry. When they really kick the money printing into gear, $50 will be the new $5!

1

Concert T-shirts will now cost $100.

11

u/iclimbnaked 1d ago

That’ll work for a bit. It’ll stop working when people start losing their jobs in meaningful numbers.

13

u/calmdownmyguy Colorado 1d ago edited 1d ago

No, it won't. W completely fucking cratered the economy and two years later republicans had their best election in 100 years.

They will never ever accept the fact that the people who white christians voted and supported are responsible for their problems.

18

u/elbenji 1d ago

Huh? Bush cratered the economy and it ruined them in 2008. 2010 was a result of people not knowing that Obama can't fix it in two years

3

u/Kasspa 18h ago

However Biden DID fix it in 4 years after the first Trump disaster. Then we just handed the reigns back because we didn't like it being fixed? We need propaganda laws in this country, like back before Fox News won their lawsuit to claim the news is "entertainment" and doesn't need to be factual. Prior to that, it had to actually be the truth...

1

u/_mort1_ 1d ago

It will be blamed on Biden admin.

3

u/cincy15 1d ago

Ask not what your retirement can do for you , but what your retirement can do for Trump’s Ego.

3

u/MelloDawg 1d ago

Go read some comments on FB pages of the elderly (or, if you’d rather, you could put an ice pick into your eyeballs for the same effect). They all say that “there has to be some bad so that there can be good,” and that this is necessary to “fix Biden’s mess.”

Truly cult behavior.

2

u/iKangaeru 1d ago

"Drink up!" said Jim Jones.

2

u/Lead_Dessert 1d ago

Yeah the Right Wing grifters have immediately pivoted to “shut up, not being able to afford anything is a good thing”

2

u/MaddyKet 1d ago

Still talk right now, let’s see how MAGA feels when they literally can’t afford things. Coming soon (like next week) to everywhere near you.

2

u/kmoney55 1d ago

A trade deal he negotiated

2

u/trogloherb 1d ago

The funny thing is, those pastors and churches dont pay a dime in taxes because they’re supposed to be apolitical.

I would think I myself could amass such awesome status symbols of wealth if I had to pay nothing in taxes.

2

u/Mutchmore 1d ago

When it hurts them, they won't stand for it. They're willing to sacrifice anyone else though

2

u/hellolovely1 1d ago

I looked at the conservative subreddit the other day and like 50% of them were saying that it's "selfish" to care about your retirement fund and Trump is a genius using this as a bargaining chip. We'll all come out better and all the criminals will be exposed!

They are truly morons. Another 50% seemed to have a glimmer of realization that this situation wasn't good.

2

u/zztop610 1d ago

At least church is once a week. These mofos watch Foxnews 24x7, so much it is often burned in on their screens. Watch Fox and you barely have any news about the stock market.

2

u/MaddyKet 1d ago

I saw earlier that they removed the stock market ticker today.

2

u/Pale-Worldliness7007 1d ago

And if the pastor asked for 3/4 of their income to buy a new jet they would do it. These despicable pastors and Trump have no conscience and know there are millions of gullible people that will do what ever the messiah wants thinking it will somehow be a benefit to them. They waist most of their lives waiting. They also think they’re going to get rich with mlm sales.

Pew research shows 36% of republican voters are low income. That 36% isn't going to take being told their problems aren't real problems lightly.

u/Renegade-Ginger 1d ago

“It’s okay guys, just starve, be forced to work multiple jobs, and never have a proper sleep schedule for the next few years and then we promise you’ll be rich!” The gop probably

u/Fun-Outcome8122 1d ago

Sounds like the promises about Trump University! :)

1

u/Inside-Palpitation25 1d ago

They have already convinced them, have you heard Maga talking about how great this is? That they don't mind suffering now, because in the end it will be great!

1

u/Ornery-Ticket834 1d ago

Their followers also like money and inexpensive product. In the face of this kind of really the truth will seep in albeit slowly.

1

u/FlamingMuffi 1d ago

Tbh they're already doing that seen some "this is gonna be bad for bit they bring back all the jobs!"

But I think it's gonna be a hard sell. When prices skyrocket telling people "JUST WAIT IT'S GONNA MAGICALLY GET GOOD!!" Will fall flat just like Democrats trying to go "actually by all these metrics things are good" especially when they're no concrete plans laid out just empty promises with no action

Sure the cult won't care but I think a lot of others won't

1

u/Kkimp1955 1d ago

T already says he meant to do that

1

u/OmniManDidNothngWrng 1d ago

Nah Republicans need to take the keys away from Grandpa themselves or big business will just back Democrats to do it themselves.

While this concerns me because Trump has a way of getting a certain demographic to believe everything he says, there is the possibility that when even the MAGAts have to start paying much, much, more for basic everyday items, perhaps they will get fed up and start questioning Trump’s economy. On the other hand, if this is just one of Trump’s pump and dumps, MAGAts will forget real fast they lost half their 401ks.

1

u/Capable-Commercial96 1d ago

The issue is that Trump's gonna do like 30 more things in that time, that by the time they get a narrative for this mess, they're already scrambling for the next mess, leading to a constant state of "something wrong is happening" with no break for the next 18 month. So unless they can get Trump to shut up (unlikely), they can't corral any of this.

1

u/BongRipsForNips69 1d ago

I've already seen this. I've literally heard that millions losing jobs and the economy crashing is better because Bidens stock market and job market was "fake" because of interest rates being low. but when Trump says he wants lower rates too, they claimed he's a leader. it's mind boggling that High school drop outs elected this clown

1

u/FireNexus 1d ago

Won’t work. One thing people know is when they’re directly fucked. And they always blame the party in power. Whether voting matters or not, well…

1

u/ZarafFaraz 1d ago

The whole "it's gotta get worse before it gets better" 🤦🏽‍♂️

1

u/ojisan-X 1d ago

Some are already convinced this will be good in the long term because they believe everything that comes out of Trump's mouth.

1

u/Jstephe25 1d ago

The mission is to enrich himself and his friends. They control everything and can manipulate the the market and global economy. All to their benefit because they know the moves that are going to be made. If I was on the inside and knew what Trump was going to announce daily, I could turn $1,000 into millions in a matter of weeks

1

u/NotScottBakula 1d ago

My bosses see this as good for the long term. They are enjoying the bloodbath as they think it won't affect their company. Company is a top fast food chain.

1

u/MaddyKet 1d ago

Hmmm should I spend $16 on ONE Value Meal or should I get 32 cup of noodles so I can eat once a day for the next month? 🤔

Luckily it’s not that dire for me, but cup of noodle is like .50 sooo…

If you want to check the Conservative pulse you can go to their subreddit. Don’t bother posting, they’ll ban you. But it’s a good way to see the mental gymnastics going on there.

Half are saying it’s a tough but necessary step. Others are saying it is a disaster and not thought out or explained what the end goal is.

1

u/HoonterOreo 1d ago

I already hear people saying the "it's gonna hurt but it'll be worth it" narrative. With that said though those people are definitely in the minority it seems.

1

u/Key-Decision8270 22h ago

Ironically, Trump negotiated the bad trade deal with Canada and Mexico that he complains about now. The Art of the Squeal.

1

u/cynplaycity 22h ago

Also part of their mission is to get rid of those pesky trans folk and drag queens.

1

u/leon27607 22h ago

This is exactly what trump supporters are saying. They think the tariffs will bring back manufacturing jobs, they won’t. Even a Republican said the jobs they “bring back” will be done by AI/machines/automation.

It also takes roughly 10 years for any company to set up the infrastructure to start manufacturing stuff in the US. Also, what’s the incentive for business owners to spend a massive amount of $ to do so and/or not be able to make any profit off their goods?

1

u/djerk 22h ago

The funniest part is they could theoretically take the tax money and actually fund a manufacturing infrastructure bill but they fucking won’t.

They are way too greedy and stupid. They will absolutely pocket the money and do nothing.

1

u/Laminatrix2 19h ago

my mom already said the following: "People will just have to get used to higher prices. Big deal." Some people don't want to even bother to think, forget about thinking critically.

1

u/Oolongjonsyn 19h ago

Right until the moment a democrat is in power, then they'll 180 flip and blame it all on them as if its the worst thing ever.

1

u/Ashamed-Status-9668 18h ago

They don’t need to loose too many votes for the Democrats to win a lot of seats.

1

u/midnight_margherita 17h ago

This is exactly what I’m seeing as the defense which is incredible given that all of our rural school referendums aren’t passing because these maga people keep preaching about how they can’t afford their taxes going up short term. But you can fight the good fight of losing jobs, paying higher prices for everything etc? Looking the other way for a nationwide/global problem and having outrage for the same principle locally is outrageous

1

u/josiedosiedoo 17h ago

Don’t forget the evil brown people

1

u/Soggy-Type-1704 17h ago

Bringing back 99 cents burgers at McDonald’s would do the trick! Idiots.

u/Jef_Wheaton 16h ago

On Thursday one of my customers asked me how my wife was doing. I said, "Well, she's pretty stressed out, since she works at a museum and is scrambling to get programs together before they lose their funding."

This guy says, "Yeah, it's gonna hurt for a while, but there's so much government waste, and we have to get rid of that."

Did you just say TO MY FACE that you think the job my wife has done for 30 years is a WASTE OF MONEY? Do you think that even a CENT of that theoretical cost savings is going anywhere but to the top richest people?

This guy runs a public safety training center. While we were speaking, a group of police officers were blowing through a literal pickup-truck-load of ammunition on the firing range. There won't be any cuts to THAT, I'm sure.

Maybe the next time they need an emergency equipment repair at 9AM on a Saturday when I'm on my way to my other job I WON'T answer the phone.

1

u/Corinh 15h ago

This is already the case. I’ve been telling people that it’s gonna be a recession, and their response is it’s good because the economy isn’t where it should be because of COVID. Like how the fuck does that make sense.

1

u/TastYMossMusic 15h ago

Exactly. Not enough people talk openly about how religion and magical thinking are a huge factor in all of this.

1

u/beckisnotmyname 14h ago

It's already exactly this. I listened to multiple execs at our company who is going to get absolutely wrecked explain that it's short term pain for long term gain and that hopefully the tarrifs drive the correct behavior and will be removed quickly. Can't define what "the correct behavior" is.

u/DumboWumbo073 14h ago

Don’t forget about the gen z incels
