Resources Puppy aggressiveness

Six month old dear puppy

My 6 month old female yellow Lab is an absolute dear. Lots of licks and kisses. She has been in puppy daycare since 12 weeks old. She gets along great with other dogs. We have noticed that lately, when someone comes to our door, usually only a delivery person, she just about goes through the door! Growling, barking etc. She is a very aggressive female Lab and I have had 3 Labs before her. Just concerned about this behaviour. Will she outgrow this or if not how do we curb this aggressiveness’s??

Is she okay with other house guests? I have a Japanese Shiba Inu and I worked out she was afraid of the postman’s hat and his trolley, which made her bark.

We do not have any house guests. Our son comes to visit every 3-4 months. We live in a very rural area where we absolutely do not have people just “drop in”. I have started to take her into the nearest town for walks. Just to get her used to other people and dogs and cars, traffic etc. To be fair, at this point, due to extreme weather, we have only had 3 excursions to date. I am confident that she will adjust to these other scenarios, however I would greatly appreciate advice on this matter.

If you aren’t able to leave the house, definitely look on YouTube for city sounds, traffic sounds, vacuums, lawnmowers, fireworks, people talking, dogs barking (highly recommend Doggywoods retreat daycare videos) etc. they are very helpful in accustoming dogs to the unfamiliar. If it is at all possible, encourage friends and/or family to visit as much as is humanly possible. You have the perfect environment for a dog to be happy (I am very jealous), but not necessarily one that is conducive to a well rounded, confident dog for all seasons. If it helps, start your day as though you’re an alien on this planet and imagine everything as new. If it is new, your dog should be exposed to it. Take her to visit the butcher, the baker, and the candlestick maker. If nothing else, just sitting for 30-60 minutes in the supermarket carpark, going out of your way to eat at a dog friendly cafe, or walking her around a home depot or similar is very valuable. It is hard work it sounds like given your wonderful location, but it will pay dividends with a reactive dog.

Like other comment, I used to work outside and dogs didn't like my hard hat. Some dogs are afraid of hats or even beards or other interesting things
