I would deviate south thru KC and make myself sick on BBQ, continue west thru Colorado and enjoy the mountains, then head up to Eugene. Also, when you are at the Idaho/Oregon line and leave the interstate, fill up and get snacks cause you have many hours of not much in front of you. Welcome to Oregon!

i was kinda implying a way to make it quicker/shorter, tho bbq and colorado do sound like a nice detourš©

pay attention to the weather for the ride though wy . there is some crazy wind even on clear days.

I have done much of that drive from the east on multiple occasions, although I usually end near Boise. You picked the fastest route, with some very slight tweaking that you can do on your gps once you hit the Oregon state line.

What exactly are you looking for tips on? We need more context.
Iāve driven NY to/from the mountain west 10x so far in my life, the last time was literally just last week, with my cat as well, going from SLC to upstate NY. OP, you can ask me anything and Iāll do my best to answer.
This certainly isnāt the fastest route. If you want quick, youāre better off going through Iowa, Nebraska and Wyoming. The tolls youāll pay are very limited, if any, leaving from Chicago. Google/Apple Maps isnāt always right.

for "avoid tolls" this route was the only one available on Apple Maps, and since I'm driving with just my cat, i don't have a passenger to map for me so i can't really rely on a physical one. but to answer your question yes, i was hoping for tips on making this trip shorter/quicker while still avoiding tolls. i figured a more northern route would probably be possible, SLC feels like a full blown detourš

Iām not sure why Apple Maps is routing you that far south just to avoid tolls. You definitely should use Google Maps instead. Further, the tolls youāll have to pay, if any, will be very minimal going a more direct west route through IA, NE and so on (like $10-$20 max). Any major tolls donāt really take effect until you hit Indiana and Ohio (when driving east). You donāt have to go through SLC to make it to Oregon. You could instead consider north on I90 instead through SD, MT, ID then into Oregon. On maps itāll show as more like 3 hours slower technically but itās actually faster imo because you donāt have to deal with traffic around SLC, depending on the time of year youre doing this. You can rip like 90mph pretty much the whole way after you leave IA. Youāll also end up going through Bozeman and itās beautiful. The reason itās having you dip into SLC is because WY is extremely spread out and that is technically the only option on a major highway after leaving southern WY. That was the first time driving that long with my (also black) cat and she crushed it. It went really smooth overall. Stay safe and enjoy the open road.

Also, sorry, one more tip is to route it per day instead of per the entire trip. For example, if you know you want to make it like 13 hours on day 1, find a northern destination 13 hours away. So say Indiana to Omaha (just an example, not specific to 13 hours) then Omaha to Bozeman, then Bozeman to Eugene. That usually helps Apple/Google Maps find even quicker routes. Cheers.

Sorry!! But you will move back when you see all the drugs and homeless!! A sad sight!!

Leagalized cannabis is one of the big reasons my family would love to move to OR. Homelessness is, unfortunately, everywhere.

Push some of it down south and go through Colorado instead of the plains of Wyoming
