We need to give coke and cigarettes to uncontacted tribesmen to figure out how to do it correctly

Watching videos of Bedouin tribesmen railing lines and smoking marb golds for the first time

This only really applies to a certain subgroup of people, especially the rs-adjacent types who are lowkey performative asf sometimes. The majority of people who do drugs genuinely do it because they like drugs or are addicted to them.

Ya I love being addicted to cigarettes and smoking every hour in a way that mimics the old days

u/MelonHeadsShotJFK Feb 25 '25
If someone smoked a cig to look or feel cool after 18 there’s no hope for them
15
u/hydratedhomiehere Feb 25 '25
literally why else would uou smoke cigarettes it does nothing for me. i gotta have one on the beach and im good for the week
23
u/Weakswimmer97 Feb 25 '25
when i was like 19 I tried intentionally getting hooked on cigs or juul a few times and it never really worked. this year i bought a vape a couple times and threw it away because it finally felt like it was working lol.

u/hydratedhomiehere Feb 25 '25
exactly, you either smoke to feel / look cool every once in a while or because youre addicted to a drug that does nothing

people nowadays can only s * ck c * ck in a way that references the action itself

Maybe spend time around normal people and not wanna be influencers.

u/MalloryTheRapper Feb 25 '25
I have never once done a line and thought about the aesthetic of it. all my lines have been done at 3 am in a bar bathroom when i’m trying to sober up. a pitiful sight.

Looking cool was always other-oriented

u/Hardwood_Bore Feb 25 '25
Being cool > looking cool

u/gentilet Feb 25 '25
I regret to admit that one of my academic areas is the history of coolness (a very uncool thing to research, I know). Coolness has always been about affect and appearance.

I love it when 23 year olds think they have that kind of insight. People nowadays only smoke to look like old films whereas in the 90s, a decade i only experienced through those very same old films, they used to do it for real

u/SadMouse410 Feb 25 '25
Omg just go to normal parties and places and hang out with normal people, I promise they’re doing party drugs in the normal way that people have always done. Also only America has this weird moralistic thing about smoking, everywhere else people never really stopped
22
u/DarthCorporation Feb 25 '25
Moralistic? Heart disease is the number 1 killer in America. We could probably get away with smoking like the Europeans do if our food wasn’t filled with so much fucking shit
1
u/SadMouse410 Feb 25 '25
I mean how people now think it’s rebellious and cool to smoke and they’ll pose for pictures with it and etc, when in most of the world it’s just what everyone does

That’s right we only just invented the allure of drug use in the last few years

doing speed off of a girls bum was on my bucket list and so i had to do it and film it. living out ur aesthetic dreams is ok

u/kcatif Feb 25 '25
casual public drug consumption without the rawness of addiction, will always be partially performative and a part of a edgy persona. if they talk about it, they wanna be cool. i’m one of them i’d know

The spirit of healthy living has absolutely crushed American urbanites we simply cannot engage in unhealthy things in a normal way

There’s plenty of discourse on this topic already. Would just be rehashing the whole Debord vs Baudrillard thing.

everything is referential to itself. and if you live thinking about it, you won't enjoy anything

I've never understood why people think those things or drinking look cool. It just looks like someone self harming, and inconsiderately harming those around them if their drug of choice is smoked.

As someone who smoked in the 90s it’s always been that way.
