C U L T U R E Cathedral of Learning, University of Pittsburgh (1934)

This building makes me want to go into cripping debt for a useless advanced degree and live out my dark academia fantasy

all well and good til you've got a class in a nationality room and the wooden chair both makes the bones in your ass hurt and the lack of AC on a hot day makes your thighs stick to it too

It’s a really cool building and partly convinced me to go there, so I get your fantasy

I live close enough that i can freeload and read/work here when i have a lazy day. It's inspiring to be in a beautiful place even if you're just doing the same old shit. Chairs are not comfortable though

Going to a huge state school from out of state where I didn’t know anyone and I was a depressed 18 year old was tough

I can relate and many such cases. I thought you meant there was something specifically shitty about the school and that building.

what do you mean? anything else worth seeing aside from the cathedral lobby?

frick observatory will make you believe in the power of nature, that’s maybe a 5 min walk from here. schenley park is right by frick and it’s such a nice area. the law buildings by the cathedral are a bit of a whiplash from frick considering the brutalist feeling of it all. idk i moved back here a few months ago so im trying to romanticize my hometown lol

I moved back too this year, it's fun to re-explore the city as an adult

My friend teaches philosophy here. He's kind of a nightmare but I love him anyway.

Incredible building. I went there for a semester :)

It didn’t work out but the atmosphere was incredible

OMG 😳 Pittsburgh posting! It's a really lovely place to study in. Also you can get in good shape by running the 30 floors of stairs in the winter.

It brings to mind the Moscow State University building. It seems towers of learning were in during the mid century
