Neuroscience New study finds online self-reports may not accurately reflect clinical autism diagnoses. Adults who report high levels of autistic traits through online surveys may not reflect the same social behaviors or clinical profiles as those who have been formally diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.

I understand you just fine.

Your point was pedantic and unrealistic.

I’m trying to explain to folks how this works in practice. I’m not here to argue with non autistic people about how autistic people and the community functions.

Either take the insight or don’t.

But don’t act like you know better or that I just don’t understand.

Someone diagnosing a cold is unrealistic?

I’m trying to explain to folks how this works in practice

And myself and others are explaining that you can't, because 'self diagnosis' is by definition, up to personal interpretation in practice.

You can explain how you, or people you know do it but that's it.

No, I’m explaining how a whole community and their medical professionals define it.

You’re just not interested in listening.

It’s unrealistic because the symptoms of a cold are visible and simple to identify. Translating that logic to an autism diagnosis is disingenuous at best.

No, I’m explaining how a whole community and their medical professionals define it.

Not sure why your comment started with no but then went on to talk about 'a' community, as I said;

You can explain how you, or people you know do it but that's it.

You can not speak for all of the people using self diagnosis, unless you're claiming to be some sort of god.

It’s unrealistic because the symptoms of a cold are visible and simple to identify. Translating that logic to an autism diagnosis is disingenuous at best.

You still don't understand my point. You stated that, "Self diagnosis is a process that takes years and a huge amount of research.

This idea that it’s just people watching a tik tok or taking a quiz is really disingenuous and damaging. " I provided an everyday example of how the term self diagnosis can be used, which contradicts your assumptions of how 'self diagnosis' works in practice. Your community may well hold this idea to a high standard, but you can not speak for everyone.
