Have like 6 microwaves to disassemble and add to the scrap pile but I’ve not done one before. I saw that there’s a possibility of beryllium in here. Where would that be? Also what to do with capacitor?not trying to get my autistic ass bizzapped again. I twitched more than usual for a week last time.

Hi; i am a first year electrical apprentice, and figured i could start stripping wire for extra cash while i watch tv and what not. Probably a dumb question but do you separate your different gauges? For example do you put your 12awg in a different bin than 8awg? I started taking 14/2, i probably wont bother cause most people say not to but i already have a bunch of ground copper wire from it so i was just gonna throw it in with 8/2 stuff. Thanks

I’ve always wanted to scrap metal. What kind of money would I get for these hurricane shutters (and the tracks that go with them, not shown). New to this.

Hello, I'm fairly new with scrapping. I have questions about different steel and how to sort them. In picture one I have what I believe is a cast iron crankshaft? What category would cast iron and forged steel crankshafts fall under respectively? In picture two I have an axle out of a transfer case and an input shaft with gears out of a transfer case. Can I leave the gears and bearing on and not get docked? And what category would the axle and input shaft fall under? Thank you for you time and knowledge, I hope one day I too can be an experienced scrapper like those I see in this community.

Hello scrapping Community,
this ist my first post here. I am from Germany and started (as a Hobby / small Business) buying and repairing used welding machines some years ago... Only old, conventional Transformator MIG/MAG and WIG / TIG with little to no complex electronics..
Over the year i buy around 10 to 20 machines. Some of them even in bad conditions, if cheap. If i got 3 or 4 non repearable / resellable machines in my Workshop, i start dismantling them for copper, brass and a lot of sellable spare parts.
Almost all comon (West) German brands of the 70s to the end of the 90s only has copper Transformators inside, you almost never get aluminum windings. Had only one machine (east German Brand) with aluminum inside and got once a big migatronic machine with half copper, half aluminum)
Also i bought a cable stripper some while ago, to strip the cables leftover from dismantling the welding machines but i also get a lot of cable scrap from Friends and colleagues (mostly) 4 free or as a exchange for a favour or so ... i strip everything bigger than 6mm2... Thinner wires only If they have thin insulation wich almost falls of by itself after running through the machine.
I like doing this (buying, repairing, playing around and selling good welding machines) but i also recognized that i Like the scrapping part. Its not my favourire Hobby, but overall i like the work of taking things apart and sorting stuff and having some very good extra income of course too! :-)
I am happy that i found a community where you can talk about scrapping, didnt found a german speaking one.
Cya! :-)

Lazy Saturday, wife was napping and I was hungry. Got some food, fed some seagulls, glad they're back? Decided to check some of my construction dumpsters. First 3 were basically a bust, but the 4th one was a jackpot!
The grey buckets were found in the dumpster, I filled them with outlets & small pieces of wire.
Not pictured are a few commercial light fixtures (led & t5/t8).

Have a consistent supply of commercial Ice machines per week to break down. I'm aware of copper types and brass. Over 1k of45m What do I do with this spaghetti? Boards, capacitors, transformers, and small wire. Thoughts and advice?

I usually unload there, but I’m looking for a yard where I can get a better yield. Anyone have a suggestion for a better place?

Was scrapping some old video boards we had removed recently at work, and was wondering if these chips are worth anything to a scrap yard or if they’re trash. The video boards are from the early 2000s.

I’m guessing close to 300 pounds. 4 of these look like 10 pound pigs, the rest were melted in a ladle. (Not by me)

I’m in the process of negotiating a deal with a computer recycler for some of their untested laptops. I watched a video where a guy said not to pay more than what you could get for it if it was all broken, which makes sense.
I was curious how much a laptop is worth if it were sold for scrap, and/or what a fair price is for scrap laptops if I’m taking on all of the risk?

I have about 300 pounds of this. This is priority wireE193954, I do believe its tinned copper. Does tinned copper have its own category for scrapping?

Just picked up 3 pallets of cables, wires keyboards and random computer stuff. Very new to scrapping went a little hard on my first big haul. The first pallet was the fun one a lot of random cables and cords. A lot of VGA cables and VGA connects heads. You guys think there's any value here?
