Hard to see but if that is exposed copper wire I'd remove ASAP and replace it.. electricity and water don't mix too well

Love the state of Reddit where someone down votes "take exposed wires out of your aquarium"💀

It's dangerous for your shrimp and you - exposed wires + electricity = ouch

Looks like an exposed wire. You need to replace the pump. If you can find an identical or similar pump, you can switch the old sponge into the new one so you won't disrupt your tank cycle.

I'd get that out of there asap. Looks sketchy, just replace it to be safe.

That is exposed wire meaning you could end up with electrified shrimp. Would you touch water with a down power line? It’s kind of the same thing.
I recommend you get an air pump and a sponge filter. Here’s my set up 👇

If you were an electrician, you would have already changed out that wire and sealed the opening. I am thinking you should toss this because you are even asking...

Take it out immediately, had two second hand Filters that looked just like that, they eventually startet crackling and kind of exploded (the shrimp were OK though). Thank god for circuit breakers.

Either you need to apply electrical tape or get it replaced. If everything is working well then better apply electrical tape

Electrical tape is not a magical item, just replace the heater before YOU get shocked.

Electrician here. Electrical tape should not be considered water tight. Water will wick through the tape guaranteed. While 120v is not a lot I would still replace this rather than consider a home repair on something submerged in a liquid that I regularly put my hands into.
