Inclusiveness Policy

/r/streamentry is committed to maintaining an open, inclusive community for all practitioners with a sincere interest in awakening or the practices related to it, without exception and regardless of personal characteristics, circumstances, or background. We ask that all contributors be mindful of their views, biases, judgments, and assumptions when participating in discussions here, and that they respect others as individuals and as fellow beings on the path of awakening.

Handling Problematic Expression

The scope of content moderation is limited to ensuring that discussion remains civil and on-topic. It is essential, especially in a forum such as this, to permit free expression, even of views and attitudes with which we disagree, or that run contrary to consensus norms or values. This means that, at times, some participants may express views or attitudes that do not warrant moderation action, but that contradict the inclusiveness policy above or are construed by some as offensive. In this case, we look to the community to respond appropriately:

  • If fellow practitioners are being marginalized, diminished, or discriminated against in any way, please speak up for and reach out to support them. Publicly and respectfully countering discriminatory comments as they arise is the most effective way of dealing with them. In the end, the community reflects the attitudes of those who contribute publicly to it, so those who are most keenly aware of these issues are urged to contribute more, not less.

  • Refrain from reacting against anyone responsible for expression perceived as discriminatory or offensive. Understand that such expression can be made for a variety of reasons, and that those responsible can also benefit from participation in the community. Rather than calling out individuals, we can make a difference by calling in individuals—that is, approaching them as a member of the same team of all beings and addressing the comment being made or view being expressed as what is problematic, rather than the person.

Maintaining a diverse and supportive forum is the responsibility of the community as a whole. By observing these guidelines, leading by example, and, above all, contributing from a place of compassion and understanding, you'll help ensure the long-term health, resilience, and value of the community for everyone.
