Two semesters in different locations, or one academic year in one place?

Hi. I’m considering a couple of ways of going about studying abroad:

  1. Studying in one place (Heidelberg Germany) in the spring, doing Workaway (a work/room+board exchange which is organized directly between me and the hosts, the university is not involved) during the summer, then studying in another place (Granada Spain) during the fall.
  2. Doing Workaway during the summer then studying abroad in Granada for an academic year beginning that fall.

My major is anthropology, my specific interest being folklore. I will be in junior standing if I begin option 1 this coming spring, or senior standing if I do option 2 next fall.

Workaway would allow me to explore and travel cheaply, and maybe let me save money on flights since I have more flexibility on the dates, or in the case of option 1 I wouldn’t need to fly back to the US and then back to Europe again.

I’m planning to do Workaway in the United States this summer, so I’ll have a better understanding of how it works by the time I’d enact one of these plans.

Which do you think is better? Any advice or insight would be appreciated!

Thanks :)

If Granada has courses you are super interested in, or you are considering it for a masters/ PhD later, I would do a year there.
If it's more about exploring different cultures, then the more the merrier so do half a year each.
