Mechanical Help Need help with my volume. Can’t change music volume for Apple CarPlay or radio. Dead silent. Every time I change the volume there’s an envelope with a down arrow.

Your phone is currently sending an alert status to the car (e.g. receiving a text message) -- that's why it's adjusting the notification volume. Not sure why your phone is doing this, but as a temporary workaround, go to the audio settings and change the audio level that way.

I disconnected the phones from the vehicle and turned off and on the vehicle, but the problem persists.

Have you rebooted your phone

This. Hard reset your phone.

I actually completely disconnected my phone at this point

But have you restarted it? It might be that simple

Yes I restarted my phone now as well and still the same issue unfortunately

Try holding the tube and volume buttons down to do a hard reboot of the head unit

Yes that worked. I called Subaru and they told me to hold down the volume and tune buttons until the whole display reset itself. After that, it’s working completely fine again. Thank you all for your help.

Edit: I didn’t really want to call them at first because I didn’t want them to say to bring my vehicle in. Lol.

Glad it worked out!

disconnecting and rebooting are not the same thing. Reboot your phone. Sometimes my 24 Ascent will connect to my phone but no matter what I do I can't reproduce media, but if I unplug the phone it works. After a restart, all is well.

On the radio, go to Settings app > General tab > scroll down to "System Information" - what does it show for version information? Compare to this: https://www.reddit.com/r/subaru/s/q9IX5ol3SZ

You have the old radio software, there’s a newer update out. Take it in to get updated

Make sure the volume on your phone is all the way up. Next make sure you’re only using one connection type at a time, either Bluetooth or USB. If you are plugged in while also being connected through Bluetooth some weird things happen. It’s almost like the radio doesn’t know which to connect to. I have this problem in both of my Subarus and my Chevrolet.

Don't need to hold both Tune and Volume, just hold volume knob in and count to 20 or so.

Also, since you have an iPhone: an iOS update just came out, and that always causes weird issues like this. A smaller update will come in a few days to fix the bugs that this update created.

You should read the email from the car, see what it wants.

Stated above it was the volume and tune button to reset the display. It worked after.

Edit: I guess my phone started sending a signal to the car that was wanting it to adjust the notification volume but after 30 min of having my phone disconnected in multiple restarts of the vehicle, the only thing that helped was resetting the display. The guy from Subaru said he’s never seen that before.

It’s probably just a marketing ploy.

Hey this is gonna sound weird but go with it, are any Amazon apps open on your phone? If so, close or delete them, and see if that fixes it.

  1. Reboot phone

  2. Reboot Starlink (5 second press and hold on the power button.).

It will be fine on reconnect.

I had to press and hold the volume and tune until it reset the display. It worked after

Must be muted - tap volume button.

It won't work because your dog is trying to send an email and get reception from the sunwoof. You have to wait for it to finish.

1) go into setting on the infotainment look for sound and ensure the setting are how you want. The knob to the left of the screen adjusts the volume as does the right toggle switch on steering wheel. For car play google maps go into google maps on your phone settings, navigation and set how you want maps to look/work on car play. The on phone go to settings, car play and ensure it is set how you want. Now when making/receiving calls the volume of the call and the ring can be adjusted only while on the call or while it is ringing. One issue with subaru is the lag time. When answering a call, it takes about 6-10 secs before the person calling can hear you talk. I have learned to wait about that time before I speak. The toggle switch you used to make/answer calls also has a mute button. That may be engaged. There is also that on the volume button on right of the screen by pushing in the centre briefly. Sometimes Sirius XM also loses signal on certain stations of if in a congested part of a city with multiple high-rises.
