sacred burial grounds

Is there a list of all Native American burial grounds?

It just seems weird that whenever something happens on tribal land it's also happening on "burial grounds" as well.

Are we just using this term very loosely? Is all native land also burial grounds?

I mean, I just find it hard to believe that there is a burial ground right on the lithium mine as well. If it's a big mine and a small burial site, couldn't they just mark off certain sections of the mine so both sides(pro mining vs anti mining) would be happy?

Or am I just completely misunderstanding the situation here?

There are probably hundreds or more unmarked burials in this area. Maybe thousands idk. If I was a part of that tribe it would be unsettling to think of the spirits that I respect have their buried corpses defiled by loud construction sounds and heavy machinery built by greedy government who stole the land in the first place

Its name? “Rotten Moon.”

That’s some beloved, sacred land right there.

Meh, everything is sacred to someone

Conservative religious and cultural concerns (even when non-white) cannot be allowed to stand in the way of development

Pretty easy to say when this doesn't affect you one bit.

Were they using the land before, or is this just another cash grab?

Does land need to be used?

Hey since you’re not using that closet in your house, it belongs to me now. I’m going to put in a Bitcoin miner and make a bunch of noise polluting your space. If you try to turn it off I’m going to have to press charges and ruin your life.

You wouldn't even have the internet to cry and moan on were it not for the very people you're seeking to criticize.

We won. You lost. If you want to take an actual stand against greedy capitalists and imperialism, go and live in North Korea.

But you won't because you will always be a complainer instead of a doer.

What the fuck are you even talking about lmao

7

u/MKULTRATV Sep 11 '23

You wouldn't say that to my face.

Okay tough guy.

Are you using the land your grandparents are buried on?

13

u/0pimo Sep 10 '23

Nope. My family cremates and gets buried at sea because putting dead bodies into the ground and tying up useful land is fucking stupid.

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '23

i actually like something that neil degrasse tyson said, and i think i'd like to do the same thing some day (probably not in an actual cemetery, so the land isnt used up) - but he said that the earth has nurtured him as he grew; he ate greens and meat and grew because of the energy it provided him, so when he dies he wants to be buried instead of cremated so that his body can return the favor and provide nutrients back into the earth so that others can grow. cremation burns off all the energy your body contains in an exothermic reaction and wont give back to the earth in the same way. perhaps a biodegradable casket with a memorial tree is a kind way of returning mother natures favor.

Traditional burials are a body pumped full of chemicals sealed in a metal or chemically treated wood box under a steel or concrete vault with an expensive rock on top.

7

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '23

wow its almost like you didnt read the part about biodegradable caskets and allowing my body to decompose, or the tree marker. thanks for educating me on a traditional burial but this obviously isn't that.

9

u/SirHerald Sep 11 '23

I did. I was just contrasting with why traditional burials are awful

Dunno, don't care. Graveyards are a stupid use of land. You can dump me in a landfill for all I care.

6

u/HenryGoodbar Sep 11 '23

I like the cut of your jib.

u/ZQuestionSleep Sep 11 '23

You can dump me in a landfill for all I care.

I too subscribe to the Frank Reynolds model of after life care.

Now you're thinking! USA USA USA USA! (Edit): damn, they hate you so much they downvoted my joke haha

3

u/0pimo Sep 10 '23

How much time do we have to wait after someone is buried in a plot of land before we can develop it? Or is it just to be left empty until the universe dies a cold death?

9

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '23

The project data is staggering. The mining company estimates that per year it will produce 152,703 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, burn 680,000 tons of sulfur, and use nearly two billion gallons of water in a basin already suffering from severe drought.

It's not just about there being nearly 1000 sacred sites in the area. Would you say the same if an oil reserve was found under the Vatican?

3

u/No-Travel6299 Sep 10 '23

Are you shitty they might be compensated for selling what they own or that they want to protect the environment? I'm confused.

1

u/Roonerth Sep 11 '23

What the fuck does that even mean?

1

u/__-___-__-___-__ Sep 11 '23

the land is less valuable if it’s unoccupied by natives.

1

u/MrOrangeMagic Sep 11 '23

Lets offer them 1 bison and 2 sun panels as compensation should be enough right?…. Right?

3

u/scottfc Sep 11 '23

1

u/NotAzakanAtAll Sep 11 '23

I'll eat it all - no freedom for volcano.

0

u/AlbinoShavedGorilla Sep 11 '23

That’s what we say for oil, not lithium. also the joke falls flat because it’s already in the US.
