In the same way that the second half of the Hitler story is more complicated.

54

u/Gillemonger Jan 08 '25

+1 Sex with Hitler 2 wasn't as easy to follow

2

u/Siberwulf Jan 09 '25

Wait until you get to the Neinth one

2

u/Timorim Jan 09 '25

Had a hard time telling if he was cumming or Göring

1

u/Fresh_Fluffy_Unicorn Jan 08 '25

He basically invented the term 'Sex, Drugs, & Rock n roll'...

11

u/Closersolid Jan 08 '25

Looking forward to a similar ending though

2

u/nascentt Jan 08 '25

I know you mean his demise, but your comment could be interpreted to mean everything before that point.

2

u/yeah_deal_with_it Jan 08 '25

Underrated response

1

u/omggold Jan 09 '25

Minus the world war and genocide right??

4

u/AGreasyPorkSandwich Jan 08 '25

That artist turned into a real wanker in the second half

2

u/bonerb0ys Jan 08 '25

I liked the end

2

u/CoffeeFox Jan 09 '25

I'm a fan of the ending, at least.

1

u/Plank_With_A_Nail_In Jan 08 '25

No one has made a movie about the first half though, not even the middle which is really interesting, just the dull part with him in his bunker at the end.

2

u/chytrak Jan 08 '25

there is one called Hitler: The Rise of Evil

31

u/ReferenceObject Jan 08 '25

Love the movie showing how much of an asshole Zuckerberg is. The final line ruins the whole narrative of how Facebook started by trying to redeem him.

27

u/OldManBearPig Jan 08 '25

The final line doesn't ruin the movie for me, but I agree it's lame and sours it a little bit.

The first scene in the bar with his girlfriend is probably one of the best pieces of dialogue though, and tremendously accurate, not just for Zuck.

2

u/binhpac Jan 09 '25

I personally find this girlfriend arc and motivation for making social network awkward, just because in real life he was already dating his now wife.

Thats part of the story i think its too far from the reality. But i guess the filmmakers needed that girlfriend arc so the viewer could understand that he was an asshole or so.

3

u/Cuchullion Jan 08 '25

I mean, he's already played Lex Luthor...

2

u/cwtguy Jan 09 '25

What's different for the second half?

1

u/men_with-ven Jan 10 '25

Currently Aaron Sorkin is working on what he has described as a spiritual sequel to The Social Network based on social networks involvement on January 6th 2021.

u/Unoriginal_Pseudonym Jan 08 '25

He's our generations Thomas Midgley Jr.

183

u/Drabulous_770 Jan 08 '25

Didn’t know the name and looked him up.

For the lazy: he helped develop leaded gas and CFCs(Freon)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Midgley_Jr.

46

u/TK421isAFK Jan 08 '25

Ohhh...that asshole.

26

u/Mccobsta Jan 08 '25

Grade a tosser

11

u/smedley89 Jan 08 '25

Ok, "tosser" - is that English slang for masturbator? Basically calling him a jerk off?

I love European/Australian slang. I just dont always get the nuance.

11

u/Mccobsta Jan 08 '25

Yeah slang for someone who jerks off

Tosspot also similar meaning

5

u/smedley89 Jan 08 '25

I always thought tosspot would be some jar someone would jerk off into, making it a tad nastier.

Not that I have a jerk off jar. Just sayin.

3

u/Batman1384 Jan 08 '25

And I always thought tosser was short for salad tosser, as in ass eater. We both learned something today!

3

u/smedley89 Jan 08 '25

That one never crossed my mind!

I guess thays why you are the Batman.

12

u/IxnayOnTheXJ Jan 08 '25

Lmao he got strangled by his own invention to help him get out of bed unassisted, after he had contracted polio. I wish karma still had a sense of humor like that

3

u/Various_Weather2013 Jan 08 '25

What would be the Facebook equivalent? Some disgruntled Facebook user Luigi's Zuckerberg?

2

u/boraam Jan 08 '25

I didn't remember the name but knew it had to be the CFC and lead guy.

1

u/brothersand Jan 09 '25

We, the lazy, thank you.

111

u/Bobaximus Jan 08 '25

One of my favorite quotes is about him, he had “an instinct for the regrettable that was almost uncanny.” (Bill Bryson)

8

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '25

That from A Short History of Nearly Everything?

1

u/Bobaximus Jan 08 '25

He's been quoted as saying it but it does appear in the book. Not sure.

27

u/throwawaystedaccount Jan 08 '25

More like Lee Atwater if you want to be a pedant, because Thomas Midgley Jr was a scientist and at least invented things. Tell me something Zuckerberg invented.

6

u/hydrangeasinbloom Jan 08 '25

A misogynistic system for rating the “hotness level” of women at his college. Unless that was also another guy’s idea that he stole.

-1

u/calvins48 Jan 09 '25

Feminist in the house

9

u/lolno Jan 08 '25

"I can't think of who the fuck invented Facebook. All I can think is who played the guy who invented Facebook! who the fuck invented Facebook?!"

2

u/Own_Thing_4364 Jan 08 '25

Sean Napster.

3

u/StijnDP Jan 09 '25

Nobody will ever be able to rival Leo Baekeland AKA "The Father of the Plastics Industry".

It's everywhere and used for everything. Breaking down over thousands of years slowly poisoning the environment but never fully decomposing back to carbon and hydrogen.

Whoever comes visit planet earth in a few hundred million years is going to discover a layer of plastic in the geology just like how we once found coal and oil from a layer of trees that could never be broken down to their basic elements.

1

u/BrazilianTerror Jan 09 '25

Well, at least at the time Plastic seems like something useful and later we discovered it’s ubiquity is really really bad for the environment.

The inventor of leaded gas knew lead was poisoning and proceed because of money.

1

u/LookAlderaanPlaces Jan 08 '25

He’s our generations Rupert Murdoch. They both spread massive amounts of Russian propaganda made to destroy the US from within.

120

u/aloneinorbit Jan 08 '25

Yeah. Zuckerberg should be in prison for knowingly allowing misinfo to spread that lead to literal violence and even a genocide.

7

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '25

Captain Capitalism says “Turmoil has historically been more profitable than peace!”

Captain Oligarchy says “Control is more important than profit. Why else did we ‘sink’ Twitter?”

1

u/theivoryserf Jan 14 '25

And what would the green plumber say?

3

u/TableSignificant341 Jan 08 '25

People should also just stop using Facebook, IG and WhatsApp.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '25

[deleted]

2

u/TableSignificant341 Jan 09 '25

Pretty sure it's only Boomers keeping Facebook alive now.

4

u/DanGleeballs Jan 08 '25

Which genocide?

40

u/aloneinorbit Jan 08 '25

0

u/culturedgoat Jan 09 '25

Persecution of the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar has been going on since the 70s. Facebook majorly dropped the ball by having next to nothing in terms of Burmese language moderation up until the mid-2010s, and let a lot of inflammatory shit run riot on the platform, but suggesting that Zuckerberg “caused a genocide” only reveals one’s ignorance of the politics of that region.

While I fully agree, I don't think the probably-14 yr old you're responding to is capable of a coherent discussion. They compared AI, HRW, the ICJ, and the UN to North Korea and Hitler's Germany, and based solely on their names. It's assclownery of middle school debate club proportions

19

u/ThufirrHawat Jan 08 '25

Quite frankly, the world needs more Luigis.

3

u/GetToTheChoppaahh Jan 08 '25

Says the guy using fucking Reddit

1

u/JahonSedeKodi Jan 12 '25

Shhhhh, average redditor thinks reddit is totally better than fb 😂😂

1

u/GalacticShoestring Jan 08 '25

And just like Elon Musk, we can't vote him out or impeach him. He has no limits to his influence and we have no legal way to stop him. ☹️

When historians study the decline of the United States, capitalism and social media are going to be the two major factors that caused / accelerated it. ☹️

1

u/Calm_Neat_6828 Jan 08 '25

We should have stuck with MySpace. Tom would have treated us right

1

u/Shadowborn_paladin Jan 08 '25

When he dies the piss on his grave will cause nation-wide flooding.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '25

You mean it wasn’t worth keeping in contact with degenerates from high school?

1

u/kbailles Jan 08 '25

Eh so does Reddit. Every relationship subreddit is telling people to just dump that loser. Every gaming subreddit is filled with the most whiny entitled group demanding the game change for them. Reddit sucks.

1

u/Pale_Mud1771 Jan 08 '25

This one guy has done so much damage to humanity, we are going to see it’s effects and weep

I don't believe he is the one doing damage to society; Trump's entire business model is to put his name on the deeds and actions of others.

My theory is that he is a designated fall-guy.  After enacting unpopular policies, he will be the one to take the back-lash.  The career politicians will claim that he is a lone actor, condemning his actions without actually repealing them.

1

u/telerabbit9000 Jan 09 '25

Plus - when shit goes down, he just moves to his Kauai doomsday bunker.

1

u/brassninja Jan 08 '25

”You are probably going to be a very successful computer person. But you’re going to go through life thinking that girls don’t like you because you’re a nerd. And I want you to know, from the bottom of my heart, that that won’t be true. It’ll be because you’re an asshole.”

1

u/Gastronomicus Jan 08 '25

we are going to see it’s effects and weep

Going to?! It's been a major problem since the beginning. Platforms like FB and the propagation of social media culture that followed has led to a proliferation of misleading and false information that has influenced multiple elections over the past 15 years.

It's led to the dehumanisation of people in various groups across society, the hijacking of media by billionaires and authoritarian regimes, and the election of populist governments intent on destroying public services and institutions critical to the welfare of countless millions and government safeguards put in place to protect democracy. In short, it is shifting western democracies towards fascism.

In hindsight, it was inevitable. If not FB, it would've been something else. And it became other things eventually that are far more influential than FB.

-4

u/babydobin Jan 08 '25

Luigi would be self defense. Every day is a failure

0

u/timeaisis Jan 08 '25

He’s the single most unethical person living today. Yes I’m counting Bezos and Musk. At least with them you know exactly what you are getting. Zuck is a literal sociopath.

0

u/Dracomortua Jan 08 '25

Which one guy though? We seem to have a LOT of extremely billionaire folk (that may be white... men... of a specific political extreme) that are going totally Against The Proletariat Good.

We need to be able to Bell The Cat at this time. I would like a plan of action whilst we still have what little power we have left. Before the rise of the Fourth German Empire, if you will.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belling_the_Cat

0

u/ialo00130 Jan 08 '25

We're already seeing it's effects.

They started to take effect on society a decade ago.

0

u/Faemn Jan 08 '25

Elon trying his hardest to be #1 tho

0

u/Market_Infamous Jan 09 '25

Our societal downfall beginning with a horny college nerd wanting to rate women is so absurd.

-1

u/game_jawns_inc Jan 08 '25

nah bro he does BJJ now bro and wears gold chains bro. he is BASED and CHAD

-1

u/Advertising_Inner Jan 08 '25

Wrong. Texas is optimal. It has the perfect ratio of progressives to Joe Rogan bros to Elon musk fans.

1

u/_angela_lansbury_ Jan 08 '25

Pretty nuts that the downfall of our society started with one teenager trying to rate hot girls in his dorm room

1

u/rantheman76 Jan 08 '25

History scholars will look back on the first half of this century in amazement.
