I love the "people are unhappy because they please others rather than themselves" one. Thinking empathy causes depression tells you all you need to know about the author, and makes the motivation for shitting on people with MDD crystal.

Reddit was flooded with thousands of bots leading up to and following the election. Thousands more, I mean. They're all trying to rack up karma so they look legit, and can then be sold to sketchy political astroturfers.

I just scrolled through the subreddit and really see anything that stuck out to me as bad? Am I missing something?

I have yet to be impressed with any of the ‘cool guides’ posts. At least the people in the comments on this one seem to realize it’s total garbage.

To be fair, it's titled "how to be unhappy" and "guide to become unhappy", which is technically correct. As in, if you do these habits, regardless choosing yourself or environment driven, you'd more likely be unhappy. I think this gets a pass since the pic itself isn't claiming it's self chosen and doesn't tell anyone to stop being unhappy.

That’s not victim blaming lmao. You can’t change your life without a great amount of effort, and you personally can’t change the world. Most people don’t even possess the capability to change their lives at least not very quickly.
But what you can do is change your perspective. It isn’t wrong for people to be upset with their circumstances. However, what post like this presume is a worldview where you admit to yourself that stirring over things negatively is not going to ameliorate your present circumstances.
Do you know that some people are poorer than dirt but they’re still happy bc they don’t define themselves by their circumstances but by the things that bring them joy and love?
You can choose to live that way. There are some people who, despite their best efforts are always feeling down. It could be a neurological problem, trauma-related, related to their environment or circumstances or it could be completely psychological. But at the end of the day, this post is addressing the greatest proportion of people. Those that don’t realize letting your spirit low is half the battle one for the system.

r/Adulting is also being inundated with this kind of invalidating stuff.
