Link (warning: Truth Social) for anyone who wants to fact-check. This was posted 4 hours ago: https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114285375813275308

I think he needs to do a bit more than making up numbers to actually calm the market...

Edit: I'm from Taiwan (32% tariff), and I have to ask Mr. Trump: What did Taiwan do that was categorized as "unsustainably bad"? Being good at manufacturing computers and semiconductors? Being an ally of the US? Being willing to reinvest in American fabs while risking undermining its own national security?

Over the past few days, I've watched several friends and family members—who I know for a fact have been pro-US for years—succumb to defeatism and start wondering if a neutral or even pro-China (god forbid) stance is a more pragmatic path forward for Taiwan. The horrified public has been scrambling, asking whether Taiwan can still view the US as a reliable ally. It's hard to put into words just how much of a fuck up this tariff is from Taiwan's perspective. Taiwan was previously heavily under China's sphere of influence, and was only in recent decades that became pro-US and pro-democracy. This goddamn tariff has undone years of trust building efforts by countless American and Taiwanese politicians and ordinary people.

Their entire economic plan is based around Import bad/Export good. They are very very dumb and have a child's understanding of international trade.

18

u/GeriatricHippo 1d ago

It's extra idiotic when all the tariffs he slammed down across the word to "protect" against the "bad" imports causes a ton of reciprocal tarrifs that effectively block free movement of your "good" exports.

He's artificially made it - Import actually now bad/Export now also bad too

u/generateduser29128 1d ago

He probably asked an AI about a sure way to get the trade deficit to zero, and it came up with halting all trade.

0% deficit guaranteed!

u/GeriatricHippo 1d ago

🤣🤣🤣

u/Ashamed_Distance_144 1d ago

Understanding is a stretch. No need to insult children.

4

u/tavariusbukshank 1d ago

Being good at manufacturing. Taiwan has been in the game so long that they make more than just computers and semiconductors that are quality products.

What Trump means to say is that the USA has grown economically fat and lazy as a result of free and open markets. He wants the USA to become fit and competitive again but he is blaming other markets that are fit and competitive for the USA's laziness, and gaslighting those markets about riding on the coattails of the USA to reach prosperity. He won't achieve his goal without sacrificing a shit-ton of american living conditions because labour costs will be much too high to compete on price with places like Taiwan. Driving down labour costs at the same time as increasing the cost of consumer goods is a certain recipe for a market depression. If the USA decides to print more money in response to a depression, the result will be hyperinflation. Don't worry too much about Taiwan. The world is bigger than the USA and there are other markets that will rise up and take the USA's place when it's global economic influence wanes as a result of this risky experiment.

WE GOING BACK TO THE GREAT DEPRESSION WITH THIS ONE 🔥💯🗣️🥶🔥🙏

7

u/BigSmackisBack 1d ago

Im starting to think Trump has been confused about what great means

4

u/Boysenberry-Street 1d ago

I think he will also get confused with the word “inconceivable”, hopefully may create the same result for him.

4

u/NoModsNoMaster 1d ago

Good chance.

1

u/the_esjay 20h ago

I very much enjoyed the people of Greenland having their own MAGA hats: Make America Go Away.

Honestly, it seems that’s closer to what Trump is trying to achieve, and it’s just horrible to see.

3

u/pseudoOhm 1d ago

His handlers tell him great... They just omit the depression aspect.

8

u/PepperDogger 1d ago

His post reeks of panic.

1

u/Physical_Sun_6014 12h ago

I said the same thing.

2

u/Gravejuice2022 1d ago

MAKE DEPRESSION GREAT AGAIN!

Dearest Georgia, Nevada, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Arizona:

You get what you fucking deserve. Cheers!

u/EmotionalMycologist9 1d ago

He and his cronies have learned that they can make up anything and at least 40% or so of Americans will believe it. Musk literally said that $100k or something was illegally given to a "3 month year old" from Social Security. He's never heard of SBA. Some children get money from SS when their parent DIES, but for him, even that would be fraud.

29

u/RecliningBuddhaCat 1d ago

Well yes, that dead parent should have left the child an emerald mine.

34

u/GoodLingonberry5802 1d ago

He’s right about the end result will be historic, but not in the way he imagines.

22

u/Uwumeshu 1d ago

5 trillion of investment evaporated, yeah

18

u/sup_with_the_whack_ 1d ago

I can personally confirm that FIVE TRILLION SCHRUTE BUCKS AND TEN TRILLION STANLEY NICKELS have been invested and MORE ARE COMING!! It's raining JOBS!!!!

13

u/Monobluemagic 1d ago

What a wacko. The president that US deserves

3

u/hbgwine 1d ago

Sadly, you’re right.

5

u/18002221222 1d ago

We had it coming

13

u/ablackwashere 1d ago

WHO is investing?? Always the vague claims with not one damn detail!

5

u/kinglallak 1d ago

I think he is claiming the 5 trillion removed from the stock market was an investment into the American economy?

2

u/WeirdRadiant2470 8h ago

Many people.

12

u/hadoken12357 1d ago

The world will never trust us again and they shouldn't.

10

u/usernotknown6 1d ago

USA just chose to go to trade war with almost every country in the world. All the other countries are still doing business as usual with each other.

I mean all of this is just straight out of a whack comedy. The way the tariffs were calculated and targeted. The way the US somehow chose to start the fight with everyone and at the same time. And seems that they now have zero diplomatic skills or see any need for such.

8

u/nikkazi66 1d ago

And the penguins! Don't forget the war with the penguins! I would love to see a documentary on that one, narrated by Morgan Freeman.

6

u/GrumpyGG64 1d ago

I think even Vlad is getting fed up with his baby boy.

17

u/JacobJamesTrowbridge 1d ago

Are you kidding? This is the greatest espionage coup in Russian history. What would the Soviets have given to make the USA undergo economic self sabotage and a diplomatic self-destruct all at once?

3

u/RenCake 1d ago

Ngl, Vladdy boy is prolly jerking it to the situation in USA atm

5

u/No-Steak-3728 1d ago

jobs..so you want a country full of worker people who are too tired, poor and injured to fight. So hero, such jobs.

4

u/Dr_CleanBones 1d ago

Let’s see the $5 Trillion, bozo.part of the justification for his stupid tariffs was that they would spur companies to invest in the US - which might have been right, had everything been stable for a couple of years so companies could feel some confidence in how things were going to be going forward.

Trump took less than 24 hours to ruin that justification. Now he’s openly admitting that foreign countries can negotiate their way to lower or eliminate the tariffs. What he means is if other countries kiss his ass, give him millions of dollars under the table, and swear to invest here, he’ll remove the tariffs against them. He hasn’t specified the amount of grift required, however.

Being able to negotiate their way out of tariffs does not present a stable economy. Nobody is going to invest here as long as Cheeto Jesus is in charge.

2

u/djinn6 1d ago

To put it simply, if your investment only makes money as long as the tariffs are high, and that tariff can be negotiated away any time, how safe do you feel about your investment?

3

u/Remote_Swim_8485 1d ago

And I should believe this why?

3

u/MIKET330 1d ago

Screaming into the void Grandpa, hoping they will believe yet another lie??, you have single handedly crashed our economy in less than 90 days bravo

3

u/hbgwine 1d ago

The money is just rolling in! Trillions! It’s incredible!

3

u/DrKrFfXx 1d ago

What's the idea here. Usa owns the IP, China manufactures for cheap, Usa collects the profits. Where is the losing proposition for this orange turd?

1

u/djinn6 1d ago

He doesn't want to give them the money that the government printed for free.

3

u/IsaidLigma 1d ago

43.7k morons liked this

1

u/Physical_Sun_6014 12h ago

That number used to be way higher. Just saying.

2

u/Gtstricky 1d ago

And he believes these companies are going to invest that money after what he is doing? They were empty commitments. They lie, just like he does. Shocker.

2

u/Bayliner215 1d ago

We need to start penalizing this orange colored buffoon for lying to the public…….. Like apply penalty strokes to his golf game (the only thing he cares about……) Nowhere near 5 trillion has been committed. It’s under 2……plus even if they bring all these jobs back - the US is at near full employment. There aren’t workers for the supposed jobs that will come.

Spoiler alert - the jobs won’t come and neither will the money.

Look at the FoxConn in Wisconsin announced during his first term.

1

u/Hyperafro 1d ago

Now that all of the immigrants are getting deported there are even more open jobs, mostly ones most people don’t want.

2

u/Bayliner215 1d ago

So much so - that Florida is talking about relaxing child labor laws to fill open jobs.

Man - all this winning is fucking awesome!

1

u/grantyporkribs 1d ago

Forget fully employed. Yanks don’t have the skills anymore. Lol.

2

u/schatzillaz 1d ago

Things will recover once he passes

1

u/Hyperafro 1d ago

It took massive government spending and WWII to get out of the last one due to tariffs.

2

u/GeriatricHippo 1d ago

That's a pretty huge made up number. He's Just pulling 13 figure numbers out of his ass at this point.

2

u/Odd_Appearance_Dude 1d ago

Remember as he made that casino great? Or that airline? Historic! Absolutely teriffic.

3

u/Hyperafro 1d ago

The university too!

2

u/JCarnageSimRacing 1d ago

We’re just making shit up now.

1

u/Physical_Sun_6014 12h ago

He’s got nothing to offer, take it or leave it.

2

u/RoC_42 1d ago

The end results will be historic indeed

1

u/TwoDurans 1d ago

By adding “understandably “ there does he not side with a china in treating the US poorly?

1

u/Odd_Discussion_8384 1d ago

America clean up your mess it’s spilling over the border and we don’t want to have to do it for you…

1

u/Adept-Elephant1948 1d ago

How come this five trillion hasn't resulted in market gains?

Trump: They go to a different school, you wouldn't know them!

1

u/texaushorn 1d ago

How much of that $5t, is by virtue of just claiming the actual work that Biden did?

1

u/challmaybe 1d ago

No one likes all caps, Trump.

1

u/Twograin 1d ago

Has it gotten great yet? How long until the great kicks in?

1

u/TheBimpo 1d ago

Hang tough? We were sold nothing but prosperity. Why are we waiting for an end result?

1

u/crankbird 1d ago

Let’s say the Five trillion in investments is true. If so that almost certainly going to come from capital inflows (money from overseas) or from loans from US banks.

MV = PY .. or in other words, to begin with all of that extra money is going to cause prices to go up. To offset this, the fed is going to increase interest rates, until the money coming in to drive new investment dries up.

It might work its way through in about 5 years as productivity (Y) catches up but until then inflation is going to get even uglier than it was before.

1

u/Fit_Error7801 1d ago

He’s out of his fascism living mind

1

u/flacidfeline 1d ago

Lies. The only thing that ever gets pooped out of his disgusting pie hole.

1

u/DragonflyForeign4993 1d ago

And unicorns are real

1

u/Physical_Sun_6014 12h ago

This is what panic looks like. He’s trying to convince himself more than anyone else.

1

u/WeirdRadiant2470 8h ago

No typos, weird grammar or misspelled words. Stephen Miller.

u/psykikk_streams 31m ago

he used to be talking about billions and billions. that just doesnt cut it anymore, ever since he learned about Trillions. now its trillions of dollars everywhere and for everything.

meanwhile he doesnt even know what groceries are or how international trade actually works. but all those trillions. seriously. who would have thought.

u/JimmyKlean 1d ago

Why so many billionaires here??
