When I've had to get my luggage at a layover airport on an international flight I was told to do so on the flight. You can ask when you check your luggage in Vancouver too. They will tell you if it's checked through to your final destination.

No, check it all the way through to final destination. Your layover/transfer is not long enough to go land side so enjoy the airside part of the airport/s. Also, little tip, check if/when buying an expensive bottle of water at the airport that you can take it on the plane. Many a $10 bottle of water finds its way into a sink as a second round of screening means you have may have to get rid of it before boarding your onward. Enjoy!

You can always ask about it upon check in but mostly for international flights you will pick up your luggages in your final destination Vancouver . 1 hour and 55 minutes is nothing . It’s not long enough to go outside the airport. What I usually do is look for my gate first then I can start exploring the airport and buying some things

You don’t need to collect your bags. See the !layover FAQ.
