I love everything about this, but especially the presentation.

Thank you! It's been fun developing both it and the font. Trying to balance a lot of axis- familiar, but not too familiar. Highlight it is real, but what if it took off? Old CRT display but with art nouveau stylings. Something visually distinct from Steampunk, but might fit well in such a world. All to say-- I greatly appreciate hearing you love it

Oh!! Wow!! I saw this resource in the 105-segment post from earlier today. I did not see the 21-segment option until now! So many potential alternatives to play with some time in the future. Thank you! I bookmarked it but hadn't played around with it much.

I saw the patent Phosfor's based off of in a Technology Connections video. Blink and you'll miss it 10 second digression https://youtu.be/YGT1EvmDJh4?si=KsgPHzZRVANYsPZB&t=25 It just stuck with me.

Thanks for that link! Not sure why it's described as creepy looking though, it's a very interesting face. I wish there would be more use of alternative segmented types though. I've seen beautiful designed clocks being ruined by using the default 7-segment face.

Happy to share! I agree- I'm not seeing 'creepy' but I suppose it's potentially gothic. But in like an Addam's Family way. Quirky in a fun way. EDIT: I'd love to hear him share more. I'm split on tagging him on Bluesky, or waiting for another Nixie tube thread to be like- "hey, remember that other example..."

It'd be fun to see Phosfor in a timepiece. In an older slide deck I included an example in that vein. I tried to add it to this post, but alas.

In the other thread this video with many unique segmented designs. Significant amount were watches. Zero stock footage used- I didn't realize there were so many options out there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTB5XhjbgZA Gave me a lot of ideas of how to edit mine in to other examples

Has a definitely high steam punk vibe indeed. Anyways, what's going on with segmented type today?!? Already saw you commenting: https://www.reddit.com/r/typography/comments/1jp9juj/i_turned_a_105segment_display_i_saw_on_the_train/

Right?? Seems a few of us are in similar headspaces. I've never seen a font like that one-- ingenious. Incredible something that complicated is still in common use!

Thank you!! I reviewed the self promotion section and just to play it safe-- I can DM you a direct link, or the QR code on slide 2 will open a few options

Are people not allowed to sell fonts here?

Most subs don't allow direct links to products. You can post your font. You can put a link in your bio and let others do the extra steps. But allowing direct self-promotion makes it harder to block spam, bots, and low-quality content. It's much easier to just make a bot that blocks all links to certain domains.

I guess that's understandable

Love it. You might enjoy this article, where someone recreated the display with LEDs. https://www.clivemaxfield.com/coolbeans/resurrecting-21-segment-victorian-displays/

Oh yes- this is so super cool!! It looks great! I found this article and a few videos on the YouTube page that's embedded but didn't see a solid update. There's the demo in the video, and then a vlog about showing it off at a makers-type meetup soon after. I'd love to see an update someday

Printing a first model as I type. I took the measurements from the original patent application. I'll add some orange LEDs to simulate how it might have looked back when. https://imgur.com/a/oaI1dg6

Oh wow! I look forward to seeing what you come up with! Hell yeah!

Art Nouveau in digital tech, something I never knew I needed, but which I now adore
