Question Side-Pinning

Concerning side-pinning that occurs with an AIO growbag, what are recommended ways to harvest them when the time comes without fully cutting open the bag? When inspecting my AIO bag, there seems to be a good deal of primordia and pinning on the sides, though nothing on the top of the substrate despite it being covered with numerous hyphal knots. Should I mist the sides of the bag to give it better humidity? Any advice is appreciative, thanks!

Not an expert, but If I was going to fruit from the bag, I would place a few rubber bands around bag, just under the top of the sub. This was stop fresh air from reaching the sides which is aiding the microclimate that’s being created. Also YouTube does have a good selection of videos on Fruiting from an AIO bag, which better explains this.

Thank you for the response! I'll keep that in mind next time. I plan on transferring this block to another, larger bag to aid with the sides that have already pinned.

Go for a mono tub if you can, I got some great results from it myself.

I bought one in the previous comment but I just recently made my own

Needed something bigger for my 5lb bag, but I bought tub that was too big so there was enough space for one of my shoebox grows as well.

Would you recommend that I buy one or build one? Since this is my first grow, I am unsure if by the time I buy/build one it will be too late.

You would probably have it faster by building one if you have the necessary tools. I used 80qt sterilite tub, a power drill with a 2in hole saw drill bit. I ordered the filters for the holes on amazon but you can substitute it for micropore tap.

If you don’t have or unable to get all the supplies, then order one would be your best bet. Midwestgrowkits offer them in different sizes. They may even a have expedited shipping option if you’re able to spare the extra funds.

I unfortunately do not have the proper tools to create my own just yet. I was just looking at the Midwestgrowkits and I am considering buying one. Since this is an AIO bag, what else would be needed to be placed within the monotub to ensure moisture levels are maintained at a proper level? Would I just place the fully colonized brick into the tub?

I use perlite to maintain humidity. I heard of and seen some folks use something like a puppy pad soaked with water, though I’ve read mixed reviews about the puppy pad idea.

Whichever you go with, you just want to make sure the block is not making contact with it. I have my sitting on a plate that on top of some aluminum foil.

Sweet, thank you! Concerning the monotub and perlite, did you soak the perlite first before adding it to the tub or do you gradually mist it over the days to come?

All I did was pour in the perlite (enough to coat the bottom, about an 1in 1/2 deep), the poured enough water were the perlite was pretty wet but not soupy.

I see you have a question! Have you read the official cultivation guide?
