Question First Grow and I need a little help

I was under the impression that the right process to grow was 1. Inoculate an all in one grow bag 2. Let it fully colonize for a few weeks 3. Transfer the block of substrate to a monotub 4. Break up all the mycelium and substrate to create a flat layer 5. Introduce free air exchange 6. Give it another week or so and you’ll have mushrooms

My question is if I follow through on step 4 will that fuck my grow up? I just found this sub and don’t see many people doing that. That’s the step I’m getting ready to take my bag is pretty much fully colonized, if that’s wrong what should I do instead?

I see you have a question! Have you read the official cultivation guide?

If you have an all in 1 grow bag the you just break and mix in the bag . The bag is the monotub

Okay thank you, should I wait for fully colonized or go for it now? I’d say I’m about halfway to full colonization

Full colonization, contamination eats the same nuits your fruits do, so if you're fully colonized there should be nothing to grow contam

I've never used an aio bag, so I'm not sure of the logistics behind my advice, if you feel like colonization has stagnated id try and break up what's there and mix it with the rest of the grain without mixing in the substrate.

Think I’m gonna take your advice and go the full colonization route, the bag I got has the grain and substrate in the bag together and at two weeks into the grow I broke it up in the bag and mixed it with the substrate already.

This is where it’s at right now if that helps

Step 6 is more like: wait for nature to decide if and when it feels like doing something. A week? No way.

The linked guide is your friend, with extensive details about step 4 and all the rest.
