Question How much of the grain that isn’t totally white needs scraped off? This is my first time, there are no loose grains. Help?

That mostly looks good. I just take a gloved fiber and gently pull off the grains that aren't totally white. I'm a little more conservative than I have to be, but I feel like that's better for the grow overall.

I took them out of the UB bags and put them into Ziplock bags. Should I just wait until the white covers the rest or send it?

If they're already out, I'd remove the grains like I said and plant it.

It's a lot of fun....I don't even really take the mushrooms, I just like growing them.

once they are out you introduced them to contaminants. like the guy said, spawn them. your loose grains would PROBABLY be fine but they are so few, just scrape them off you arent losing anything really

These are the infamous "partially colonized grains" lots of people talk about and they should definitely be picked off real quick before spawning to bulk and discarded. Contaminants from the open air can land on the uncolonized half of the grain and wreck an entire tub.

If you only use clean and fully colonized grain spawn, you won't have to worry about contamination nearly as much.

say you pull one out of a UB bag... its about 90% done. tip of the bag has some uncolon grains... say i take a gloved hand with alcohol and plucked out the grains, would that work? wouldthe alcohol on the glove kill the myc? or stress it out? or once in the air? too late

I’ve never removed ones which aren’t white and I’ve never heard that you have to. I just send it. Nothing else goes wrong.
