. Russell Brand charged with rape and sexual assault
https://news.sky.com/story/russell-brand-charged-with-rape-and-sexual-assault-133417711.8k
u/Lupercus 2d ago
“Now listen, dear interlocutors of the infinite internet ether, before the Twitterati commence their collective fulmination, allow me to elucidate this most labyrinthine of misunderstandings with my customary cocktail of linguistic gymnastics and metaphysical musing. I have, it appears, been once again ensnared in the baroque bureaucratic balderdash of institutional intrigue – a veritable Kafkaesque carnival wherein my every utterance is dissected with the forensic zeal of a Victorian mesmerist examining the ectoplasm of moral panic.
Let it be known, amidst this cacophony of cancel culture and the inquisitorial eye of public opinion, that I remain as innocent as a freshly lactated vegan oat milk latte, steeped in the froth of social consciousness and sprinkled with the cinnamon of misunderstood intention.
So I shall, like Prometheus unshackled from the rock of recrimination, continue my peregrinations through the podcastosphere, disseminating truths and transcendence, whilst being pursued by metaphorical eagles hungry not for my liver, but for likes, retweets, and moral superiority. Namaste and carry on.”

6
u/HotPotatoWithCheese 1d ago
A vote that took place nearly 10 years ago, and all current polls point towards the majority view that Brexit was a mistake. The Americans saw what happened during his first term, and they chose to give him a second chance by re-electing him very recently.
That is the difference. There isn't a nation on the planet with a population that can't be manipulated. Some wake up sooner than others, though.

And let's not forget that Brand moved on to the Yanks after he'd had a very successful career here in Britain.
He was a household name in the UK. He wrote a self help book that was top of the UK charts for a good while. In the USA he's remained a fringe figure.
He might have more American fans, but a greater percentage of Brits fell for his schtick!

As soon as he joined the right wing grift i knew this was coming.
Rapist normalisation almost seem to be part of MAGA / right wing christo-facist values, as long as it is the right type of person doing the raping, the whole thing is sick and bizarre. they normalize hate.
Edit:
just to clarify I am not linking him being left or right wing with abuse / rape
i think he used to pretend to be a left wing non religious person while it suited him because the comedy and theatre circuit in UK is mostly left
I think once it was clear his past is catching up with him, he tried to become part of fringe movement , fringe of super right wing christians and the fringe Alex Jones mob, as they will allow him to shout that the woke left are attacking me because i became christian.
267
u/NeverGonnaGiveMewUp Black Country 2d ago
It certainly makes you wonder if he joined the grift because he knew it was coming, knew he could make a bit more cash and knew that he could ultimately then say “they are trying to silence us”
You know, like the rest of the right wing grifters. Struggle to believe that a single one doesn’t have at least one skeleton!
248
u/brinz1 2d ago
He joined the grift as soon as the allegations come out.
As soon as I saw him talking about becoming Christian with Jordan Peterson I knew he was guilty as hell
65
u/Rorviver 2d ago edited 1d ago
Before they came out. I think he did that around the time certain comedians started to mention how there was a UK comedian who was a serial rapist. People suggested it was him (along with another person who could well be not that different), but by the time the investigative journalism pieces (and the c4 doc) came out he had been a maga grifter for a while.
Edit: it was more on the nose than that. Supposedly Katherine Ryan kept saying he was a sexual predator on a Comedy Central show they were both on in 2018. Her comments unsurprising didn’t make the edit.

u/brinz1 2d ago

I really don't like this line of thinking. Some evil people really are just great actors.
I mean, not Brand. Oh, hell, no.
But Kevin Spacey for example. He was a phenomenal actor. Career deservedly over, but people saying things like "turns out he wasn't even acting" really annoys me. He was maybe the best actor since Brando.
He was, also, an evil prick.

'hiding in plain sight' like Savile
33
u/TIGHazard North Yorkshire 2d ago
I mean Brand was less hiding in plain sight like Savile and more 'it was actually reported in major newspapers but laughed off'.
SEX-MAD comic Russell Brand was told off by Billy Connolly after he refused to start filming until a wardrobe girl flashed her boobs at him.
His cheeky demand delayed shooting on the first day for two hours, so the assistant eventually gave in for the sake of the schedule.
Randy Russell, 37, who’s had a stint in sex rehab, was filming Eric Idle’s musical What About Dick? in LA with fellow comedians Billy, 69, and Eddie Izzard, 50. A source said: “It was just a bit of fun.”
But Billy failed to see the funny side. The source added: “Billy got annoyed when he found out and and gave Russell a stern ticking off.”
Russell caused chaos when he pulled the stunt in his dressing room.
The source recalled: “Russell tried to persuade a wardrobe assistant to show him her breasts but she was having none of it — at first.
“But when it started to look like they weren’t going to get any work done she gave in and flashed him. Russell is a charming scoundrel and everybody let him get away with murder on set — except Billy.
“But after their heart-to-heart he settled down and gave a great performance and filmed the scenes like a consummate professional.”
What About Dick? is due for release next year.
Russell is dating new love Isabella Brewster after splitting from wife Katy Perry in December.
Their divorce was finalised last month.
That article was published a month before Savile died. It was quietly scrubbed from The Sun's site since.

The allegations came out in September 2023 though. He was already deep in conspiracies and US politics before that. According to Wikipedia, the Sunday Times in early 2019 began enquires and in 2022 worked with dispatches.
Checking his YouTube, he did his wellness thing up to early 2021 then switched to more conspiracy US politics in 2022. Hard to tell if he just saw better grift opportunities there or if he was establishing that audience, probably more the latter. What was telling is that after spending years on UK politics with the Trews in 2014, in 2019 he got what he wanted in Corbyn but didn't cover him.at all. His wellness stuff can be as much about redemption or switching his grift. He's just had 3 distinct periods. He might have known the allegations are coming around 2017, 2018.
46
u/RedditPolluter 1d ago edited 1d ago
Katherine Ryan called him a sexual predator to his face on Comedy Central's Roast Battle, which was likely filmed around September 2017, and it's been an open secret since then so he's been anticipating since at least that long. I watched The Trews from the beginning and 2017-2018 seems to be around when he started portraying himself increasingly as more of a whistleblower than a commentator and I found myself becoming more disengaged.
He likes to insinuate the allegations only cropped up after the COVID/Pfizer stuff.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXaalfWGMco @ 3:05
"It happened not when I was, you know, all over the media every day on talks shows introducing movies, blah blah blah, and actually sleeping with loads of women. It happened when I started to talk about Moderna, Pfizer, Roivant, Lockheed Martin...."
I find this unambiguously disingenuous as he seems to be implying it only came up after COVID and a lot of people seem to eat that up and not question it. I also just find it plain weird that he endorsed Andrew Tate for prime minister in January when Tate, by his own admission, broke a woman's jaw and is on camera bragging about exploiting women, manipulating them, calling them losers, etc

He 100% did; he transitioned to the grift during Covid-times but he was prefacing a lot of this with loads of 'the deep state will be coming to get me; watch this space' conspiracism.
Easiest grift in the fucking world. Don't forget that, at least in part, the whole reason Musk declared himself to be a Conservative Republican in the first place was because a story dropped on him about sexual assault and misconduct allegations. He declared himself a Republican a few hours before the story, and said that the media was 'coming to get him'. They all do it.

u/bfsfan101 2d ago
He knew it was coming as far back as 2019. A separate production company from who eventually made Dispatches tried to release a documentary about him back then but he was able to get an injunction and block it. It was right around that time he started talking about conspiracies and being silenced by the government and all the shit that a man who knew he was about to be accused of sexual assault would do.
14
u/Lisa_Dawkins 2d ago
makes you wonder if he joined the grift because he knew it was coming

u/Electrical-Lab-9593 2d ago
yeah, but to be fair it is a real problem imo, i just don't believe its linked to a political party or spectrum
The grooming gangs scandal being in labour council areas is more a reflection that poor urban areas often vote labour, and that is were poor vulnerable girls will be, and also where a lot of social housing and first/second gen migrants from muslim countries will be
I don't think it matters if was labour or conservative that was in charge, polticians often take whatever path keeps them in power rather then the correct one, and that causes people to get screwed over.

Rape and sexual assault - especially historical cases - tend to be harder to prosecute and land a conviction on. A lack of physical evidence means most of the police work will have been in interviewing multiple independent victims, witnesses and third part corroboration, trawling through past reports and the analysis of a perpetuators past grooming tacticts, etc.
That takes times, especially if the police want to ensure a conviction.
If it's processed this far, they've built up a damned good case against the bastard.

I've never liked him. Even twenty years ago, he gave me bad vibes. Like he was some sort of wannabe cult leader. He used to present himself as a sort of socialist man of the people, going on the news to lambast the Tory government for screwing over the people, and his YouTube channel was full of video essays attacking capitalism. Now he's on a right-wing bent, criticising wokeness and radical lefties; y;know, just like he used to be. The man attaches himself to any cause he can, because he has this pathological, narcicisstic need to be adored. It honestly wasn't surprising to me to find out the attitude he had towards women.

It's because it instantly gives you a framework of support.
Israel has let paedophiles and rapists elude authorities in foreign countries simply because they're Jewish and are allowed to "return to the homeland".
Brand converted to Christianity because he thought it would somehow downplay his crimes (sins) and instantly gave him a small sub-culture that was willing to defend him. There's even been African warlords who literally killed hundreds who've attempted this same scam.
And Tate's Islam is equally as self-evident though I think he chose Islam for its rules regarding women over anything else. Nothing else he does suggests the humility of a Holy man but he does like the part where women can't leave the house without his permission.

It's always the creeps you most suspect
Tbh I recall a conversation (or maybe it was a video on Youtube that analysed where his focus went) where they suspected part of his grift to the right is because he knew he was being investigated, and so he gets to play the "the establishment are trying to silence me for being right. They're scared of me" angle.
I wouldn't be surprised if this happens on his next unhinged rant.

Can’t wait for his next youtube video to drop🍿 I hope they use it as evidence in court against him lol.

I hope his punishment is similar to his way of speaking. A bloody long sentence.

I knew he raped multiple ppl once he made the hard right pivot and starting glazing Trump. Classic move.

Hard to believe the guy who pivoted from sex addict to conspiracy peddler wasn’t a paragon of virtue all along

the part I don't believe ever denied was how he latched on to a 16 year old for a physical relationship. technically legal here but obviously vile, weirdly acceptable to the Christians in the US who were up in arms about kids seeing drag shows and the like.

It’ll be interesting to see if he comes back to face trial now that he lives over there. I genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if the states refuse our extradition request especially now that’s friends with the actual government.

u/Dry-Divide-9342 2d ago
He lives in America now? I know he’s here regularly for conspiracy conferences etc., but the last time I saw a clip of his podcast he was still at his home in England

I used to be a broadcaster thought the 90s 00s and it was my ex that urged me to watch something he did, was a pile of steaming crap the nonsense wordy poo that he excremented made me and the lads in the studio think he had 3 months to his career, we even did a show the 3 of us doing his voice and wordies to the delight of the audience, but still my partner thought he was gods gift.... Most of his pater is lenonard sachs from 'the good old days'

Some of these media figures - think they're untouchable. Surely, red flags had been raised but consistently ignored at well known establishments. Glad the perv is getting justice. All he talked about was sh@gging and s8x. Never found him funny either. Babbling for the sake of babbling. You going down, ... down down down.

How long before Trumpy parades him in the white house as a political refugee? Bet he doesn't get shipped to El Salvador. First Conor now Brand...it'll be a cabal of rapists and another sex offenders pin on the white house.

u/Jumbo_Mills 2d ago
About damn time. Hate how since the initial allegations he's been able to cultivate an army of misogynists who will no doubt blame a conspiracy to cancel him. Luckily courts don't give a shit what his twitter fans think.

Cynical bastard is a "convert" to Christianity as well. Not sure he pulled the wool over anyone's eyes with that move.
No doubt he will spin this as a deep state conspiracy.

Ahh, the verbose harlequin has had his past reacquire his present and now Pierrot must face his accuser in the court of law rather than jest.

u/Empty_Wolverine6295 1d ago
Funny he has apparently found religion now as well while living in the states.

u/all_about_that_ace 2d ago
It's good to see some movement on this, it was starting to feel weird how long it had been since the accusations.

u/simondrawer 2d ago
He has been preparing for this since #metoo - moving to a fan base who are happy to disregard such triviality

u/waffenwolf 2d ago
The comedian, actor and author has also been charged with oral rape and indecent assault
To call him an actor and author is generous in the extreme. All his books are written by celebrity ghost writing agencies and as far as know all his film roles were basically him being himself with a different name.

u/Electrical-Lab-9593 1d ago
he has something about him, that i am not sure if i can explain it properly,
but where people like comedians etc, like to make you uncomfortable and invade your personal space, maybe i notice this as i am not an extrovert, but its like some acts they do audience participation and it feels fine, but when people like him do it, something feels off like he wants to dominate the person and say things that make them uncomfortable, everytime i see this behavior it ends up with serious allegations later for them
one person who did this was saville, a UK gameshow host used to do and same thing happened, allegations against them, it seems a red flag
The enjoyment of making somebody uncomfortable and invasion of personal space disguised as just part of the act i mean

Yeah, I think what you're witnessing is the difference between acts who respect boundaries vs acts who get off on violating boundaries and making people feel uncomfortable. The extreme end of that is rape. But pushing boundaries in a subtle and deliberate way vs cluelessly trampling on them vs being aware and respectful of them comes up all the time in everyday interactions and most of the time you wouldn't really be able to put it into words because it manifests as more of a feeling about the person.

Well now we know why he was “born again”. Funny how that usually always coincides with criminal charges.

I think one thing can be said… people in positions of influence and power are the ones most likely to be corrupted. It’s another reason why we need to only trust ourselves and it’s more likely the normal person on the street… sadly we will end up fighting each other! Sad times

Just saw the last couple days there has been lots of more articles than usual about the allegations,( wonder if the media got a heads up he was due to be charged)
Even just a couple days ago on reddit there was a thread about female comedians being warned about him as early as 2009 and it being pretty much universally known in the comedy scene at the time that he was a danger to women

It's always the ones you most expect. And they always either go full religion Christian nutjob, the alternative yoga buddhism type shit, or political conservatism as a ways to mask that they're an awful person, because those kind of things are what idiots think a good person looks like.
