My theory: The Supra is a fakeout

I have no inside information, but wouldn’t shock me if Supercars is secretly testing the 2026 Celica, which is why we’ve seen few updates from aero / parity testing etc.

I feel that this is unlikely, as reports are pointing towards the Celica being a mid-mounted 2ltr turbo engine.

With Supercars leaning towards relatively high capacity V8 engines, it would be a very tight squeeze to get the engine in. With the Supra being front engined there is more space for the V8, plus I think Toyota is directly competing against the Mustang (and for now the Camaro) with the Supra.

It's not so much an issue of fitting the engine in the car as Gen 3 is a common chassis so the engine would fit in the same spot as it does with the Mustang and Camaro. The bigger issue is fitting the body of a small mid engine car over a control chassis designed for front engine GT/muscle cars. That's the problem they had with the Gen 2 Mustang.

The clay mockup they made for Bathurst last year would have cost several hundred grand. Not to mention all the promotions and animations they’ve done with the Supra. Would be truly bizarre for that to all be for nothing.

If a fakeout was gonna happen it would be for the Camry like they use in NASCAR, the Celica doesnt have the brand value of the Supra or the Camry

I would be extremely surprised if they faked us all out with a life size clay model and announcement for the Supra. I can't see the motivation.
