It does solve one of their biggest problems - that of having a large and dangerous neighbor.

I don't think so. Taiwan hates China like how Canada hates the usa right now.

TSMC contributes 25% to Taiwans GDP. The tariffs will hit them hard and it will actually be Chinese buyers who will probably make up the shortfall. In geopolitics anything can happen.

Could definitely change if china wants it to - they might be willing to make some compromises if they can seize the moment while the US is being run by a corrupt moron.

And that's why China is their leading trade partner, by far. Because they hate it... being Chinese and speaking the same language. Even keeping China in their country's name (they could easily rename to Republic of Taiwan).

You know what's not what I mean.... I even used Canada and the usa as an example. They hate the idea of being one. Same with Canada and the usa. The brazen disregard for their sovereignty is very off putting. I doubt Taiwan would ever reconsider. Yes they COULD change their name, but when you know a symbolic change would get you a visit from pooh bear in tanks, why make the change. They aren't stupid like trump

The only dispute between continental China and Taiwan is over politics. The people are the same people and they don't hate each other.

They can’t rename cuz, China threatens to invade if it happens.
