I've been spending some time lately doing exactly that.

Is it working? What's your strategy?

‘what would a regard do’

A regard would buy puts on NVDA after it’s already down 18%, so he might actually be onto something here

It's been a mixed bag so far, but hoping to improve.

A couple things I've been watching:

  • Trump's calendar as well as additional analysis of it to look for trends that might give away moved he may be considering.

  • What investment moves are Trump/his allies making? In general, I would expect that on the long term, he's financially interested in pushing both his own portfolio upward, as well as those in his orbit.

A good example here may be chip makers and tertiary companies. This may seem counterintuitive to his recent announcements regarding (ha) tarriffs on Taiwan, but it could potentially be a strategy to push the value down in order to buy up and average down, and then once he backs off of his threat, benefitting from the rebound. This makes even more sense considering that many of those stocks are already down due to the announcement from China.

  • Closely follow announcements, and then look for strategic plays based on that. Obviously, once an announcement is made, it's probably already too late to win on the initial reaction. However, you can look for situations where you think that whatever impacted stocks are likely to rebound due to an overreaction. It's basically a volatility play where you're buying dips. I've mostly been doing this by actually buying stocks, but I do plan on involving options if I feel like something is going to rapidly rebound on something that doesn't have crazy premiums.
