Gain Sold at open - 165% gain - I am out!

Thank you all that helped me this regard out. Sold right at open. Literally don’t know what I’m doing. No strategy charts or anything, straight up gambling. Started in wsb since very late 2024, I am 84k up since then. Cashing all out today and gonna travel the world before inflation makes my dollars become worthless. Put in 2 weeks notice today. Cyall regards! Thx for the free vacation.

Uncle Donny the negative influencer.

Real talk I hope bro is right, cause if he isn’t we all gonna pay bad.

Spoiler: he ain't.

Whole world cooked worse than climate change

One can hope. We are pretty fucked in the short term, but there’s possibility of success long term just depends on the fallout mitigation, and how the rest of the couch lizard politicians handle the aftermath.

The absolute mental stupidity in the current admin has made me lose faith in the education level of all these guys pandering for votes with nothing of substance to offer though. So won’t be surprised if the brain rot continues, and we keep getting fucked long term as well. Every thumb sucking, couch lizard performative asshole currently holding office regardless of party affiliation needs a prompt public reevaluation pending removal, only way to clear the rot.

15

u/AgitatedStranger9698 2d ago

Dude...you're clearly trying to defend teh indefensible.

Tell me what would the ultimate play here be?

You've burnt all allies. You've nuked the standing of the US as a free market. You've torched the capital available for growth. You've neutered supply chains.

So after everything is now ash? You expect a happy outcome? Maybe if there's a global war and the US wins....that's probably the only path.

2

u/Salt_Blacksmith 2d ago

I don’t think anyone could say for certain cause there’s definitely a crazy amount of secret deals being done. I’m not defending it, just hoping whatever’s got them twiddling their thumbs and nuking the economy is worth it. A bit of optimism in scary uncertain times.

I tend to look up to 10 years ahead both short and long term.

Did this with $300. I was tempted to let it ride, but im happy with this.

207

u/creativeatheist 2d ago

Good for you, kicking myself I didn't see this coming

182

u/browsk 2d ago

Seriously it was the most obvious shit but I was too distracted yesterday, it was a nice pump too to get the puts cheaper

116

u/headphase 2d ago

It's only obvious after the fact.
There were still many lingering questions at 3:59 pm yesterday and if the announcement didn't have the universal 10%, and if it had some offramps, markets would've been positive or flat today

36

u/ErnehJohnson 2d ago

There’s no such thing as a zero risk trade and you can always rationalize a reason why things can go wrong, but after yesterday’s little bump and the imminent tariff announcement, the choice to buy puts to flip today was as obvious as it gets.

43

u/Revelati123 2d ago

Don: "Im gonna do it!"

Markets: "Nuh uhh, your bluffing!"

Don: "Im definitely gonna do it, Im definitely not bluffing!"

Markets: "Lol whatever bruh, stonks only go up."

Don: "There... I did it. Just like I said I would."

Markets: "HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!"

8

u/headphase 2d ago

The x factor was the severity, though. Nobody knew if the damage would exceed what was already priced in since Feb 19th thru April 1st

21

u/Xemxah 2d ago

Dude if you can't say this is obvious just stop trading. This is more obvious than the chatgpt <=> nvidia blowup.

25

u/quolquom 2d ago

If it was obvious then why did the market drop 4% immediately after it happened?

7

u/Revelati123 2d ago

Why did PLTR trade near 1000 P/E?

Stock market died, its a meme market now.

Just as obvious as BTC hitting 100k. Trump has pulled his tariff punches before, He also could have had a sudden change of mind and delay the tariffs another month or so

10

u/Gott2007 2d ago

I saw it coming but thought, nah I’m always wrong so I’ll just continue to hold my calls. Should’ve sold those and turned 2k into a lot more than turning 2k into $100

7

5

u/Dear_Palpitation4838 2d ago

It really is smart to take some of your gains. So many people roll it over into eventually nothing.

3

u/Connect_Mission_2685 2d ago

I've taken this to the extreme. Almost every time I've lost money over the years has been because I sit on profitable positions wanting more until they start to bleed and then i either panic sell before they go green again, or I hold and it goes worthless. This year so far I'm green because I'm only in each trade for a few minutes, taking profit asap. I've missed out on tons of gains, but I've also missed out on losses so I try not to think about the thousands I could've had by holding and think of the $ i could've lost instead

18

u/darkcrusader8 2d ago

When did you buy the contract?

59

u/Ancient-Chinglish 2d ago

like 15 seconds before extended trading close yesterday

5

u/Ok_Topic1797 2d ago

What app is this?

55

u/redbandit001 2d ago

It's literally Robinhood but dark mode, there's no other apps wsb use for trading. Maybe in rare cases, WeBull.

14

u/Mr_Gilmore_Jr 2d ago

Even after robinhood shut investors out that one time? I woulda thought that put them out of anyone's business.

8

u/schweissack 2d ago

It’s just the easiest, most accessible brokerage to the average person

I’d be using IBKR or whatever if they had an app as good as Robinhood has. It sucks that that’s the case but it is what it is

2

u/canijusttalkmaybe 2d ago

I've tried 3 other brokerages, but I'm simply not willing to accept 5 seconds to load every page, and having to load an entire new page to do every action. Having to navigate to 3 different pages, and each page taking 3+ seconds to load each. I don't "trade," so it really does not matter if it's fast. But it does feel like utter shit using most other platforms.

2

u/0regonPatriot 2d ago

And they said, you don't actually own your shares when using this platform, we do, so it's up to us, not you.

Robinhood shit on a lot of WSB, Pepperidge Farms remembers.

21

u/TraceSpazer 2d ago

I bought some TSLQ calls this morning when there was that little upsurge.

It's possible to get in on it, but good luck. Everything is a gamble as it seems like it's going to tumble today.

Just remember that congress can put an end to this whenever they want by ending his "national emergency" declaration and nixing the tariffs.

16

u/Facesit_Freak 2d ago

Just remember that congress can put an end to this whenever they want by ending his "national emergency" declaration and nixing the tariffs.

So what you're saying is I should take all of Nanna's money and put it on calls

I just sold my SPY put on market open after trump announced tariffs. Biggest gain I've ever had but damn it would be worth nearly double what I sold at if I held it to today.

2

u/Clutch_Mav 2d ago

Am I understanding this correctly? His ‘strike’ price was the $23 price per And today it opened at $8.67.

For 1500 shares or 15 contracts?

5

u/Innernet_bwah 2d ago

Strike price is $568. The premium (8.67), or price of each option (put) varies based on the stock price’s distance from the strike price, as well as the volatility and other factors like huge world events such as the tariff announcements. For instance, yesterday premiums were higher than normal. When you buy a single option, you pay for the price x 100, so a single put would have been $867. When he closed out of the bet, each one was worth $23, so a single put would have sold for $2300

To help this moron aka myself lose some money or maybe luck out and make some. You have to own some of the stock to do these kind of contract purchases?

2

u/Wonderful_Act6218 2d ago

Just go on YouTube and watch 1 video on "how options trading work" you have 2 options either "call= market go up or put=market go down"

2

u/iChrollo 2d ago

In this day and age with YT and google I honestly didn’t go there first lmao. Thanks. Plus what you just described did more than anything. Now I know the meaning of those two terms. Didn’t know that. Hopefully I’ll ride off into the sunset with this advice!!! But probably not lmao. Thanks!!! Wholeheartedly

3

u/Innernet_bwah 2d ago

Just avoid selling calls or puts, stick to buying them because your losses are capped at the premiums you pay. My advice as someone who hasn’t been doing it long, that’s how I justify my gambling
