Just Sharing Don’t need ID, just thought this might be appreciated [AR]

Wife and I see various cool thinks at our creek but she’s never seen this and I figured some people would enjoy. These two guys came out of some water grass and went at it for about six minutes. I never saw the female they were battling over today but my wife got some good pictures of fat female a few weeks before in same area so I’m sure she was close. Edit: I deleted first post because I forgot to upload video.

Found this page by accident and enjoy all of the posts so thought I’d share one with all of you.

This isn’t from my house, by a relative’s and was found in their neighbors garage a couple of years ago.

Many told me afterwards that this visual was incredibly useful & I hope posting it here may also assist a few more in distinguishing between a couple North American species.

Just Sharing Death adder in the garden just now [FNQ Australia]

1.0k Upvotes

This little death adder was in a garden we were weeding today

Gave him a lift to a different garden so he doesn’t get accidentally grabbed.

It’s wild how they can just disappear - that grass was mowed yesterday!

This is a dangerously venomous species, but they have no desire to bite us, and we are happy to co-exist.

Northern death adder Acanthophis praelongus, Far North Queensland, Australia.

Just Sharing Update on the Death Adder bite and attempted helicopter rescue [Papua New Guinea]

(SHE LIVED!)

2 nights ago I posted an emergency request to ID a snake that had bitten a young girl from a rainforest community. Many of you identified it as a Death Adder and this quick response helped the medical team prepare a treatment.

However the helicopter sent to collect the girl and bring her to hospital was twice unable to reach her. First it was turned back by bad weather. It refueled and went back a few hours later and sighted the girl but was unable to land due to thick vegetation. The rescue mission then had to stand down as night fell.

After a very tense night the medical team managed to contact the community late the next day. The bitten girl made it through the night and was getting better. A Telehealth assessment determined she would be able to recover in her community without requiring antivenom or a medivac.

Everyone involved wants to thank redditors on this sub for your quick response, advice about treatment and words of support. Well done.

Sorry I don’t have many details about the patient or her condition but we understand she’s going to be fine. Pic related is some statistics from a recent Death Adder bite study in PNG.

Additionally, my Malinois alerted to the snake while we were hiking and did great. She jerked her head up, took 2 steps backwards and sat down.

Snake was left alone.

Spectacled Cobra in our colony. Relocated by the Forest Department. Kudos to the residents of my colony - we seem to have accepted these snakes. Nobody kills or injures them; they're actively tracked till a snake catcher comes, who then relocates them in a faraway forest (I live in a forest area, but that's besides the fact).

Had a gorgeous eastern rattlesnake come into my service garage today. He was a little bit grumpy. But he calmed down quite quickly. Took a few minutes to educate my coworkers on him. And they were quite interested until he bit me😅

Took a couple of pictures and sent him on his way. I released him in the woods behind Work.
