Penelope bourbon
Wondering if anyone’s tried Penelope bourbon and if they liked it. Saw it in and the store and was curious what people thought.

Penelope is definitely worth a try in my book. Hard to say which expression suits you best but it’s a solid brand that makes quality bourbon/whiskey. Architect is a good jumping off point for Penelope. Their barrel strength is good too. I like a lot of their finished stuff too. Valencia, Rio, Rose and the tokaji were all enjoyable but might be a risky purchase to someone new to finishes or the brand. The ones to look for at the moment are the estate collection bottling. The ten year is supposed to be the better of the two but the nine is no slouch and worth the money if you can find it.

I’ve only had the toasted bourbon, I thought it was just fine, wouldn’t pay almost $90 for a bottle of it tho. All of their other fancy finishes don’t interest me all that much

I have the wheated and it's good. Will definitely be trying their other offerings

I honestly didn't like architect, but I have enjoyed some of their others. I have marshmallow toast open right now.

So, I have been pretty all-in on Penelope for the last year. Their Rio, Havana, Toasted, Toasted Marshmallow, Architect Creme Brulee, 17 Year American Light, and Valencia are all must buy when I see them. The Wheated is good and a steal at that price point ($34.99 here).
After that, the 4 grain and Architect are solid but unspectacular.
The Rose Cask was weird at first but then I had it with some spicy bbq and it totally changed it and I started to enjoy it. The Takaji Cask, I was excited to try, but it fell flat.
I think all of their's have been smooth drinking (partly the low proof) but pretty tasty and unique.

Never seen a lot of those or even heard of marshmallow or crème brûlée. I’ve had Architect…that’s not the same though right? Been a while, blue label as I remember but definitely don’t remember that.

So the marshmallow is a version of the Toasted, it has an extra label.
The creme brulee is a version of the Architect that is finished a bit differently so that it has a slightly different flavor profile.

Interesting. I really like the Angel’s Envy Rye on rare occasion and always say it tastes like toasted marshmallow, curious what that is like. Will have to keep an eye out for it.

Cask was good, wheated was bad.
I don’t think I’ll be trying a 3rd, much much better out there for the same or better prices.

They were at a whiskey event in my hometown a few years back now and I’ve genuinely never seen them anywhere else in Australia. I’m a big fan of them barrel proof. It runs very close to being my favourite bourbon.

I like a lot of Penelope. The barrel strength isn’t bad the toasted rye and bourbon are good. The 8 year Tokaji rye was very good. The private estate 9 was very very good I’m sure the ten year is good too but didn’t get one. Haven’t tried the Rio Havana wheated though.

I’ve liked what I’ve tried. Drinking the toasted rye now
