This is actually a really good demonstration of convection cells. Convection cells are also why the surface of the sun looks the way it does.

I'm gonna go outside and look.

Joke's on you, it's cloudy today.

32

u/SmallRocks 1d ago

I stared at the sun once. It's been cloudy everyday since then.

3

u/Johnny_Carcinogenic 11h ago

Just get a little bleach up there in those eyeballs and everything will be all right.

u/TheRedditisaur 1d ago

Me giggle by u. Arigator.

Cumulonimbus ? Jokes on YOU

13

u/Doogle300 1d ago

Very cool.

It makes me wonder what's going on in ones vision when they do psychedelics, as this pattern of movement, or at least something very similar, ends up appearing in even plain white walls when you stare at them.

Obviously its something to do with the minds pattern recognition, but beyond that, I'm stumped.

u/Global-Upstairs98 19h ago

Heat in the mind maybe?

A storm in a teacup.

1

u/Pistoolio 7h ago

It’s also the reason we have tectonic activity on earth. The top of each cell is carrying a section of earth’s crust.

u/HotPumpkinPies 5h ago

I need to get off reddit because i know you and I read this exactly almost word for word as the top comment the last time this effect was posted here.

167

u/lubeinatube 1d ago

Does that not immediately kill all the probiotics?

211

u/Enginerdad 1d ago

Probably. This was just a curiosity thing. I had kefir next to my milk, and thought "I wonder what that's like." I was not very happy with the flavor results and won't be doing it again.

112

u/ender8383 1d ago

Not completely surprised it had a bad flavor 😂. For those who don't know, kefir is basically like drinkable yogurt.

40

u/ButterscotchButtons 1d ago

Except more acidic and yeasty. Not exactly flavor profiles that go well with coffee lol

4

u/robotnudist 7h ago

Goes well with beer though, especially something lightish such as lager! Traditionally equal portions of each (in my made up tradition). I call it kefbeer 😋

13

u/redditcreditcardz 1d ago

Mmmmmm

14

u/SousVideDiaper 1d ago

It's good shit, especially the blueberry flavor

3

u/BlueProcess 20h ago

I get plain so I can mix it with whatever I want and not have added sugar. The first thing I tried was blueberries, and it was so good that I just kept on using blueberries.

6

u/The_Enigmatic_Emu 1d ago

My girl will absolutely destroy some kefir

3

u/Loqol 1d ago

And it's delicious!

About 30 years ago, there was a drink called Yo-J. Orange juice with yogurt mixed in. I LOVED that shit. I could drink a quart by myself.

2

u/Western-Bet2285 1d ago

I thought it was slang for weed

4

u/Doogle300 1d ago

Nah, thats "keefer", not to be mistaken with Mr Sutherland.

And even then, its not actually the bud, its the dusty trichomes that hold the THC. A pure keef smoke will often blow people's minds, because its basically a distillation of the thing that gets you high.

1

u/dwnlw2slw 1d ago

What really blew my mind was the fact that it didn’t blow my mind…well it was keefer from regs but still should’ve gotten me higher than the normal regs.

1

u/Doogle300 1d ago

I mean, if you have tolerance, its still gonna be in effect. And also, it all depends on the trichomes on that particular batch or strain. Its all variable.

1

u/dwnlw2slw 1d ago

I mean yeah i had some tolerance built up but let’s just say i smoked it in the usual interval that i had been smoking….not really sure what you meant here….but yes, it probably had to do with your second sentence.

1

u/Doogle300 1d ago

I just meant that if you are a heavy smoker of it, then even stronger hits may feel mellow comparatively, especially if they take place in your usual pattern of smoking. But if you gave yourself a T-break before, there's a higher likelihood it will hit a bit harder.

But ultimately, who knows? Where the human mind is concerned, it's a complete mystery. There' so many factors to consider, that any number of things could be the reason.

2

u/dwnlw2slw 21h ago

I was smoking about a blunt/day but regardless, that’s just totally counterintuitive and i don’t like it! 😆 Anyway, i kinda see what you’re getting at…like if you’re used to draining your dopamine/serotonin levels then there’s only gonna be so much available with no break, etc…anyway, as i said it was regs, so when i’d smoke some dro instead i’d feel significantly higher…

1

u/JustNothingIGuess 7h ago

It’s so much worse than yogurt, I’ve been able to get myself used to a lot of acquired tastes but after one sip I said idgaf about how healthy it is. Completely repulsive lol

8

u/Rakins_420 1d ago

I think we just watched your coffee curdle in real time.

4

u/Audenond 18h ago

It's the milk in the kefir that curdles, not the coffee itself.

3

u/ImeDime 1d ago

I mean were you surprised that it wasn't good? It's kefir. In a coffee.

2

u/peace_dabs 1d ago

lollol sounds like something I’d do to ruin a cup of coffee, just for pure interest

1

u/No-Wish9823 1d ago

This understatement made me spit out my kefir 😂

1

u/Mental_Contract1104 1d ago

You know, I'd probably do the same. Looks cool though.

0

u/Nacho_Papi 1d ago

Are you sure that was coffee and not tea? You can see right through it. Coffee is not supposed to be see-thru.

2

u/Enginerdad 1d ago

You're only seeing through a very thin layer to the solids, that's why it looks see-thru. Take a couple drops of coffee some time and place them on a white plate and you'll see that it's quite translucent

-1

u/Nacho_Papi 1d ago

Not my coffee.

6

u/Enginerdad 1d ago

Yes, your coffee too

35

u/hankeypoo 1d ago

OP is antiprobiotic.

26

u/maker_of_pirate_bay 1d ago

So he is just biotic

5

u/gabedamien 1d ago

Not even, because as we all know, when probiotic and antibiotic interact they annihilate. So OP is pure energy at this point.

3

u/Teknikk 1d ago

Whoa. I wish I was Bionic.

1

u/Nplatipus 1d ago

which is equivalent to being pro-antibiotic

1

u/mjohns112 1d ago

No, he’s against any positive sentiments towards biotics, generally-speaking.

1

u/jaxun1 1d ago

he's got pretty good abilities then, vanguard is my favourite though for the charge ability

1

u/AffectionateGrowth25 1d ago

Aren't we all deep inside?

3

u/TheConeIsReturned 1d ago

OP is penicillin

1

u/AWright5 1d ago

Doesn't jusitify genocide

1

u/Je-Kaste 1d ago

Just let the biotics get married. Robots can love too

1

u/482doomedchicken 1d ago

I thought probiotics will survive in warm just no boiling liquid. that’s how it is with miso anyway

1

u/beybladerbob 22h ago

If this is killing them all wouldn’t your stomach acid do that too?

1

u/JitteryJay 22h ago

Ok? It's still a tasty beverage that i will now try in coffee

0

u/drprofessional 1d ago

You know what kills probiotics? Stomach acid.

2

u/lubeinatube 1d ago

Don’t they pick specific probiotics that are tolerant to acid? There are bacteria that can live in almost any extreme on earth.

0

u/drprofessional 1d ago

I recommend reading this article.

1

u/JitteryJay 22h ago

Ok it says if you're not in distress don't worry about it. Almost everyone I know has digestion issues. Whats the harm in eating a yogurt every day lol

1

u/drprofessional 22h ago

Harm? Other than most yogurts being high in sugar and the higher carbon footprint from dairy versus plant-based diets, I don’t think it’s a bad thing at all. I personally really enjoy Greek yogurt.

u/CyclicDombo 1d ago

If you listen closely you can almost hear the symphony of a billion perishing bacterium

5

u/SousVideDiaper 1d ago

AAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

12

u/nubo47 1d ago

ok guys, i dont know much about kefir milk, enlighten me.

21

u/thatguyoudontlike 1d ago

Fermented milk or very thin yogurt

12

u/Doogle300 1d ago

That has a slight fizz. Great for your gut biome, but I couldn't handle the taste personally.

2

u/SmallRocks 1d ago

I can't even handle the smell

3

u/GlorifiedBurito 19h ago

It’s a gooey liquid halfway between milk and yogurt, but it tastes kinda yeasty and fizzy yet still creamy. It’s the worst parts of dairy combined. Nasty.

9

u/TheConeIsReturned 1d ago

It's not milk, it's drinkable yogurt.

1

u/TheMace808 22h ago

Silly what's the difference

5

u/Shiznoz222 19h ago

Viscosity and flavor

1

u/verbosehuman 18h ago

What they are. That is the difference.

One is one thing, and the other is a different thing.

What's the difference between 1% fat milk and blue cheese? I mean, they're both made from milk...

9

u/OhGawDuhhh 1d ago

"The power of the sun in the palm of my hand."

17

u/TheConeIsReturned 1d ago

Why would you do that?

47

u/Enginerdad 1d ago

Passive curiosity, nothing more

10

u/Grimour 1d ago

Nothing passive about it xD I get the curiosity though.

2

u/thnksqrd 1d ago

Now take it back out

1

u/franz4000 1d ago edited 1d ago

Presumably because you're out of milk and also you're stoned.

5

u/Romeo9594 1d ago

OP said it was next to their milk

4

u/franz4000 1d ago

Apologies, I'll retract half my statement.

4

u/BeowulfRubix 1d ago

Mordor Coffee

3

u/OG-BigMilky 1d ago

I always stir my miso soup, and then watch it for a while before I eat it. Same concept, very cool.

3

u/HighlyNegativeFYI 1d ago

Ya smokin reefah with keefah

3

u/MyFriendsCallMeBones 1d ago

Free will is a beautiful thing

2

u/Enginerdad 1d ago

Lol, it cost me nothing to indulge my curiosity

8

u/Kushnerdz 1d ago

Too hot it’s curdling. Same thing can happen with just milk

9

u/Enginerdad 1d ago

Kefir already has curds in it from the fermentation process. They're just separating from the liquid here due to convection.

2

u/GlorifiedBurito 18h ago

I just gagged a lil

1

u/Doogle300 1d ago

You should be called "Biologicalsciencedad"

2

u/txivotv 1d ago

Now that's kofeer

2

u/Eaudebeau 1d ago

Next, put de lime in de coconut.

2

u/lmp42 1d ago

“I don’t care about kefir!” - barbara evans

2

u/lnicklin 1d ago

Same shit the atmosphere is doing. We're on the bottom. The bits going up are low pressure, the bits going down are high pressure.

2

u/DonnieDarkoRabbit 1d ago

Please, this is what happens when I put soy in my coffee without giving it the ol' shake first

2

u/PVetli 1d ago

Oh that's called crown shyness

3

u/moriero 1d ago

I'm middle Eastern and this is a mistake

2

u/Enginerdad 1d ago

I don't like the sound of that. Tell me more, what excitement do I have to look forward to?

2

u/Kennyvee98 1d ago

If you really want the shits

1

u/MudRock1221 1d ago

convection cells

1

u/Unsinkable_I 1d ago

Who you gonna call? Gh…

1

u/Interesting_Okra_902 1d ago

Are you sure this isn’t surface of the sun?

1

u/ClampLamps 1d ago

You monster.

1

u/1000wordz 1d ago

I can't tell if that's reaction, or a genocide taking place

1

u/Stratomaster9 1d ago

"When I drink [churning, molten] coffee, I want to taste it."

1

u/gbgrogan 1d ago

Same process as what happens on the sun. Actually.

1

u/swizznastic 1d ago

woah, dude

1

u/No-Quarter4321 1d ago

What’s kefir?

1

u/SoVeryTroublesome 1d ago

Sutherland?

1

u/oddartist 1d ago

I like watching Guinness in a glass, this looks very similar.

1

u/Doblanon5short 1d ago

The only thing we have to fear is kefir itself

1

u/Original_Fern 1d ago

It looks like it hates you

1

u/BenBoss69 1d ago

Looks like sun currents

1

u/meldiane81 1d ago

Sutherland????

1

u/IdontuseRedditlul 1d ago

Looks like my instant miso soup

1

u/Jefferymd1325 1d ago

My Kiefer dont look like that :)

1

u/gibgod 1d ago

Me on acid could watch this for hours

1

u/FlamingPrius 1d ago

It an acid curdling reaction. You can achieve similar effects with lemon juice in milked tea, for example.

1

u/TechnicalMiddle8205 1d ago

Can someone explain why this happens?

1

u/Enginerdad 1d ago

Convection cells

TLDR: hot coffee (with suspended kefir solids) rises to the top of the mug, where it cools and falls back to the bottom in a continuous cycle

2

u/TechnicalMiddle8205 1d ago

Thanks a lot!!

1

u/Answerologist 1d ago

It’s like the fiery swirl from Oppenheimer!

1

u/andreliusprime 1d ago

Ironically this is what my stomach feels like what’s going on after I have a cup

1

u/SkullRiderz69 1d ago

This is what taking acid is like

1

u/swampshark19 1d ago

This is how the surface of the sun looks. They look the same because they share the same mechanism. Convection cells.

1

u/ocudr 1d ago

Kefir is delicous but I would never thibk to mix it wkth coffee lol

1

u/Enginerdad 1d ago

I had an intrusive thought and ran with it lol. At the time it was something like "it's next to the milk in the fridge, it's made of milk, it can't be all that bad."

1

u/10_Eyes_8_Truths 1d ago

Huh looks like exactly what happens in miso soup

1

u/pauvLucette 1d ago

Wtf with the soundtrack? I was waiting for the jumpscare

1

u/Enginerdad 1d ago

Believe it or not, that's just the sound of cars on the road going by my house. It's not nearly that noticeable in real life, to the point that when I first watched the video I was as confused as you. It's an old house with original single pane windows on a busy road.

1

u/Atheistprophecy 1d ago

I recall putting syrup in milk and that made it chewing gum

1

u/Doctor_Redhead 1d ago

Miso soup

1

u/Elegant-Might-8190 1d ago

did it coagulate

1

u/EisenKurt 1d ago

Smoke alittle doge with breakfast?

1

u/ZoNeS_v2 1d ago

A similar effect to what happens on the sun's surface

1

u/WoodpeckerOk8706 1d ago

Kefir in coffee…. The new ketchup in pasta.

1

u/Ok-Palpitation7641 1d ago

It's aliiiiiiivvvvveeeee!

1

u/Enough_Ad_9338 1d ago

I assume this is what the inside of my gut looks like two minutes after drinking coffee.

1

u/SassafrassPudding 1d ago

...on purpose?

1

u/Enginerdad 1d ago

Why not? Got my curiosity itch scratched for the price of a home-brewed cup of coffee.

1

u/SassafrassPudding 23h ago

ah, so not to drink? i think it would make the coffee...thick?

1

u/mumooshka 22h ago

doesn't that have a sour taste? 🤢

1

u/Some-Background6188 20h ago

I got served a coffee like this once, I just sat there for a minute stared at it then laughed and went somewhere else.

1

u/DiscipleOfYeshua 20h ago

When you move the cup a bit, it stops and asks for the password

1

u/Global-Upstairs98 19h ago

Same thing happens with almond milk

1

u/skeptobpotamus 10h ago

And you’ve angered it.

1

u/wellJustWhy 9h ago

Oat milk does this too.

1

u/starion832000 7h ago

That's basically how the surface of the sun looks

2

u/Enginerdad 7h ago

Same reason, too

1

u/FireProps 5h ago

This just gave me diarrhea… 😳🫢

1

u/Hartiverse 4h ago

It's alive! 😲😄

It's still weird to see people use a South African slur everywhere...

0

u/CountFoscolikesmice 1d ago

next mix bleach with vinegar. it makes an awesome cleaning solution.

1

u/Enginerdad 1d ago

I've heard that! The best thing about it is its wonderful smell. I'll be sure to drink it all in!

-3

u/flashdurb 1d ago

Chemistry was never OP’s strength in high school

-2

u/Bielzabutt 23h ago

/r/StupidFood

would you put yogurt in your coffee too? how about cottage cheese.

-5

u/Time_Print4099 1d ago

Yep, dairy goes bad as sood as it hits hot coffee. That's why your breath stinks. Rotten, curdled milk before it even gets to your lips.

7

u/Enginerdad 1d ago

That's...not how bacterial growth works, friend

3

u/FowlOnTheHill 1d ago

Remind me to never kiss you again

1

u/Time_Print4099 23h ago

I haven't had milk in years

3

u/Doogle300 1d ago

That's why I dolig oat milk. It can still split too, especially if not using barrista style stuff, but in general its much more stable for coffee. Plus I feel it can often balance out more acidic coffees better.
