Duck nest year 2
We had a wild duck nest in our yard last year. We scared off a cat and a coyote (thanks to our camera) and had a successful season with 14 ducklings born.
She is back this year and has laid 5 eggs so far. We’ve noticed that the squirrels are interested in her nest this year, but didn’t care at all last year.
Is there something I can do to scare away the squirrels but not the duck? She has another 10ish days of not staying at her nest most of the day and I’m nervous

is this duck egg still viable?
help! This duck egg is one of 10, unfortunately momma duck and the other 9 eggs were attacked and didn’t survive. Only this little guy. I think? I popped it into an incubator asap and have been watching it for a day now. I candled yesterday but as of today i started lockdown. Momma duck laid the first egg around March5th and the last around March 15. I do not know which one this is but it’s at least 25 days old. For now it is a waiting game but does anyone know if it looks viable still?

Other Question Duck panting?
Well i just posted a video of my babies outside and then a few minutes later one started panting? it’ll only do it while laying down when standing up and walking it’ll stop what’s the behavior about and should i be worried?
What is wrong with this female duck?
Anyone know what might be wrong with the female duck? It was quite scary to see her neck was inward and her chest out like that, with her quack very raspy/croaky. And why are all the males following her, is she that much of a babe that even in one of her worse for wear moments, she still brings the boys to her yard?

Found a duck in my backyard
Hi, first time reddit poster! Two nights ago, my neighbor called my husband to inform us we had a duck in our backyard! The next morning(we assumed he/she would leave) we went out to find the cutest duck just sitting in the corner of the yard. It doesn't have feathers, and we're unsure of the age, but it's a pretty decent size. We have no idea what to do with it! He/She is still back there and seems to be very comfortable. The only thing is, there's a dog in our backyard! He's leased, and can't get to the duck, though he has tried several times. My husband thinks we should take him to a local pond, but I'm hesitant to relocate him, as I'm sure ducks can be territorial, and this duck may be a preteen, with little knowledge of how to survive in an aggressive environment. My husband worries if Mylo gets to excited, he could break free, which would be bad news for duckie. Please help!

Finally!
After 2 years of searching for some extremely elusive in my area call ducks, I finally found and bought some call ducklings! They have yet to be named or held seeing as the ride home last night was extremely stressful for them, I imagine. I will update y'all with their names when we finally name them.

3 week update.
Bruce Campbell is doing well, she gets along with my cat, my dog, one rooster that adopted her, and she loves video games. Out on the farm she pretty much follows me everywhere but there are times I have to make sure she is very close especially when visiting the chicken coop and other ducks.
It won't be long before she will be ready to integrate with the others, if she ever does. If not, it's OK. It isn't the first time I have had birds indoors.
Yes, I know people's issues and preconceptions. I operate a farm, I am a sucker. I end up with strays all the time. Be it fluffy or feathered. I give all my fuzzy friends at least a chance for their best life.
I'd hate to think of what would have happened if she were anywhere else.

Other Question Chemicals Question
So I have a decent duck muck filtrationsystem for my pond....and now the sun comes out... The pond was build with a falken tree and at the time I had not considered algae growth... For my small fish pond (no ducks allowed) I use a stuff from api pond...
Now my fish survive... the cats drink from it...but.... is it safe for ducks.
(I just saw they do a sludge remover too , not familiar with it but 2 koy cause sludge my pump can deal with...4 ducks....I don't think apump has been build for it)
Is the stuff safe for koy, safe for ducks...(and us eating the eggs)
Daisy is still broody, but she's not alone.
Our little guy Dash is here to comfort and protect her 😊

Story or Anecdote Olafs life appreciation
This is my Sweet Peek Olaf, mostly known as Miffy or Miff.
Last year we noticed Olaf wasn’t sitting down and not acting like herself so we took her to her exotic specialist. Sadly the vet discovered Olaf had had egg peritonitis, suggesting the kindest thing to do was to put her to sleep.
Even calling her piggy because she was still eating her food, I complained at this comment, Miff wanted to live and we were not giving up on her. This was our sign to do everything possible to save my baby bird.
My sister and I practically called every vet in the Uk until we found a private practice in London who agreed to the surgically remove the peritonitis and spay her. He was successful!
Next week marks the one year anniversary of my sweet girl surviving. Her favourite food is melon, she along with her sister will have watermelon which we will all share.
Olaf has such a gentle soul, she loves being put on your knees while you lay down so she can run to sit on your neck. We collectively call this runnies.
She can’t fly due to her breed however this doesn’t stop her trying, we hold Miff encouraging her to flap as we hold her walking around the living room and garden so she feels the effect of flying.
Olaf loves to cuddle with her sister Svennie which you’ll see on my previous posts.
It was such a difficult situation, we both agreed to give Olaf the best chance at life, if she’d passed during surgery we knew she wouldn’t be in pain and knowing we’d tried everything to save her. As her surgery date lays on my birthday, I no longer wish to celebrate, rather we celebrate Olaf’s life.
Feel free to share duck friendly foods below ❤️❤️

Injured or Sick Domestic Duck Foamy eye Help Spoiler
Posting this here because I am worried sick and goose subreddit nobody replies
My goose has one eye foamy, slightly sunken in and red in the corner when I washed it. Her other eye looks normal. Update: today her eye was again foamy and feathers around it are wet.
She is still eating and doing everything normally, it's just the foamy eye. She's never had it before, nothings changed in her environment. She has access to field of grass and I change their water as soon as I get home. She can dunk her entire head in the water.
The only thing that's changed is that it is mating season now and she is missing some feathers on her neck from gander. Maybe he accidentally grabbed her eye?
Please help what it could be? Is it contagious? I am so worried.
Please don't offer me medicine from the USA I am not in the US, telling me types and ingredients would be more useful becausei could find something similar in my country or ask a vet if necessary. Thank you.
I am very very worried she's my baby.

Injured or Sick Domestic Duck My mom’s ducks drowned my duckling. Spoiler
Today my mom called and informed me that her ducklings and my Pekin duckling drowned my mallard duckling. I’m devastated. I’m so mad and sad. She said she put them in their usual bath and she went to stir the food she was making and when she came back the duckling was dead. I’m so mad. That one was the smallest duck out of all of them. My pekin has never bullied it before. My ducklings went to my moms because I came down violently ill and couldn’t care for them because I was so sick. I was going to get them yesterday but my mom said to leave them another day because I had to go to the ER again. I’m so upset. I shouldn’t have left them. I loved that mallard duckling. Now I can’t take my pekin back because it will be alone without a friend.
I’m back with a better picture and growing ducks!
Definitely not runners like I assumed. What do I have here?
