It's cool, but what does it symbolise?
We're unzipping reality to a new technological era? I must know! =O

What's up with all the downvotes? Who's hating? There are mostly very good entry.

I wish we could disable downvotes in this subreddit. Just let the one with the highest upvotes win.

agreement

u/thatoneguydunno May 15 '12
I agree, but that wouldn't stop the mass downvoting, as there's a workaround (if you can even call it that, it's an user setting) for that.

u/ShoopSkillz May 15 '12
How do other subreddits manage it? I hate to display my lurking habits, but /r/gonewild, for example, has disabled downvoting...
EDIT: NSFW BTW

Disabling it is a setting in the subreddit's community settings -panel.
Eabling it again is in the sidebar, the checkbox Use subreddit style. Give it a try at the gw. Should bring the downvoting right back.

u/ShoopSkillz May 15 '12
We could try that here and at least discourage downvoting...
just sayin'

I agree 100 %.
*but atomichugbot is the boss; I have no idea what I'm doing, I'm just a mod here.

HEY! ATOMICHUGBOT!! Lookit this right here! ;)

StonePaleAle nailed it. As we grew we needed a way to filter content by the user base so we re-enabled downvotes. For the most part it has been really effective. This was our first instance of some douche ruining everyone's fun. Hopefully it won't happen again (knock on wood).

Downvotes were disabled originally, but brought back for downvoting bad submitted photos. I don't know if you can enable downvoting for one, and not the other.

That is too kind of them over there. That would be my main fear of posting noodz. They should also disable the words "fat" "pasty" and "stretch marks"

From what I have lurked over there, the redditors are very kind. Anyone who says anything discouraging winds up charbroiled pretty quickly.

We got invaded by someone who has a few sock accounts that downvoted all posts in the thread except their own.

u/StonePaleAle May 15 '12
My guess is the person who submitted the NSFW entry, which isn't tagged, and has nothing to do with the original picture. Some people's kids shouldn't be allowed on the internet.

u/berj91 May 15 '12
I'll write the mods about this, this is unacceptable. I'm just a lurker here but you guys do such a fine job it's a shame to suffer this kind of prick.

I totally agree! I would never, ever down vote anyone's work submission in this sub-reddit. The only way I would consider doing that would be if it was totally not within the guidelines of the contest. Or perhaps a troll post under someone's submission.
Everyone's work should be subject to upvotes only. If you don't think someone's work is worthy of winning, don't upvote.
Therefore, I believe that downvotes in the judging should be invalidated.

Removed + banned a few new accounts. Nothing we can do about the downvotes, except of course upvote everything.
*Oh, and please good psbattlers, use the message mods instead of pm to report things, as I'm GMT+3 and the others are in some US time zone, so someone should be always awake, and not react to these 5 hours after the fact.
