Looking for a bipod for a Bergara HMR Carbon Rifle .308 — budget under $300. Using it for target practice and possibly hunting (300–700 yards). New to long-range shooting.

If you're thinking of taking shots on animals at 700 and not just steel and paper, please (for the love of God and the dignity of the animals you want to hunt) read the guides that AutoMod already linked to.

Cake Day Shilling - Making the ZERO

I think this year is the year I finally get off my ass and buy a Zero. I'm tired of having separate presses for seating and sizing.

Crown damage?
 in  r/longrange  14h ago

Are you seeing that same .5 - 2" spread across all ammo types? Just one?

How often have you seen 2" groups?

We really need more data to draw a conclusion, but frankly there's a lot of other things I'd look at before the crown.

Load Testing

I'd love to see that data, because I'm highly skeptical that you're seeing group variation like that, especially since you say it lines up with 50fps increments.

Which model and what cartridge? What ammo?

How do the groups look?

Looking for Geissele mag

Probably none since Geissele just announced a new cheaper version that's not available yet.

Nodes are a myth, and small powder charges are very unlikely to make differences in group size. If they do make a difference, 5 rounds of each is not enough data to prove a difference.

Just food for thought.

First time out with the new rifle. Picked up a Ruger Precision Gen III 6.5 CM.

If 12-1300 was typical street price on these, they'd be a lot better option and much more popular.

Is this an AOW?
 in  r/NFA  22h ago

Correct.

If it's over 26" OAL then it's a firearm.

If it's under, it's an AOW.

I mainly wanted to make sure someone (you or otherwise) reading this didn't think they could build an AR with a stock and sub-16" barrel and it not be an SBR because it was over 26" OAL. This also applies to guns that started off as a rifle, even if you swapped to a brace.

Is this an AOW?
 in  r/NFA  22h ago

The over 26" OAL comment above only applies for pistol vs firearm vs AOW. If it's got a stock and under 26" OAL or under 16" barrel it's an SBR.

AICS Mag Recommendations
 in  r/longrange  22h ago

Don't worry about trying to run extra long OAL. The overwhelming majority of bullets you'd want to use for long range work don't really care much about jump, and you can easily load them at 2.82" COAL and run it.

Bulk powder primer storage

You need a powder magazine. You can look up plans online. I definitely wouldn't wanna keep that amount of powder in my house, either.

Was Dresden “supposed” to be the next Blackstaff?
 in  r/dresdenfiles  1d ago

Also, I don't think we have any conclusive information on how someone becomes the blackstaff. It's an (un)official position within the council, but we don't know if the council is who actually picks the new Blackstaff, or if there's some other mechanism (ie: the Blackstaff has to designated an heir or if the staff picks a new possessor) and the council just has to go along with it.

Rifle gurus, input needed.

I'd love to see your 20 tests showing the same "node" because I've never seen it, Hornady hasn't seen it, and Applied Ballistics hasn't seen it.

Scope mount heights for 50mm
 in  r/longrange  2d ago

It's an AR, if you can't make sense of the ring height guide (which doesn't really need any math) then buy a 1.45-1.5" mount.

Varget versus N150 in 6GT

Yeah, I expect the same with 308, but I still wanna test it and see what happens.

What bipod do I need for this stupid thing?
 in  r/longrange  3d ago

For me the muzzle is lined up with the inside of my right hip, but my right foot is out a good bit wider than that.

Varget versus N150 in 6GT
 in  r/longrange  3d ago

My GT is collecting dust, but on ARC I am looking at every 100-200 rounds to keep the carbon under control. My buddy's GT is in the same ballpark. Not sure if we have a funky lot of N150 or what, because it's generally got a reputation for being clean as another comment stated.

Varget versus N150 in 6GT
 in  r/longrange  3d ago

I've found the same on carbon buildup, but my GTs have shot great with 150. I'm going to get off my ass soon and do some testing in my 308 to see if the carbon I am seeing in GT and 22ARC are just N150 or if it's also related to capacity vs bullet diameter.

I've run a good bit of N150 in GT as has a buddy of mine. It's run well for both of us, but you will have to stay on a frequent cleaning regimen for sure.

Plus you guys seem to run a bladed body position a lot more than most of us do for PRS and other/newer LR disciplines. Being angled behind the rifle leads to more LOP to get solid stock contact. If I set up a rifle for a more traditional LOP and body position, I'm at 14-14.5" LOP, but my rifles that are set up to run the buttpad under my jaw (which is damn near everything for me now) I'm at 13-13.5".
