I was a wee bit disappointed with how short last month was, but this made up for it. I love when KSD creates an awesome supporting cast. Captain Marvels quirks are always the best too.

I love the character Benjamin. He's like a Bobby drake and I love his powers. Very unique take on shape shifting.

Anyone ever hear of this writer before? Sean Ryan, I thought the writing here was great!

Seems every issue ends with something really cool happening but then it's back to square one when the next issue begins

I know the last two issues have just been skirting around and leading up to the fighting but they've been great. The amount of tension through this issue was palpable, the new artist is great at getting across characters' emotions without being too cartoony, and there were some great lines this issue (the Namor one about hoping they come up with something better, and when Black Panther drops the line about them having a bomb, especially).
3
u/EricWild Jun 15 '14
Love the pseudo Justice League from the other universe, but jerk Namor is what made this issue for me!
4
u/Jencaasi Jun 12 '14
This was entertaining, but I'm a little annoyed that last issue ended with a fight between the Illuminati being and the Great Society being teased and this issue was almost entirely the two groups standing around gabbing.
Post Infinity, Hickman's work has been pretty inconsistent, I think. It's almost like he's treading water in some of these issues trying to stretch things out until the next crossover in the fall. There's been some great ideas, but some really thin stories so far this year.
8
u/alrighthamilton Jun 12 '14
You weren't interested in them trying to work things out peacefully and sizing each other up? I think it would have been the mark of a bad writer if they had just started fighting each other even though both sides are technically good.
1
u/Jencaasi Jun 12 '14
I wouldn't say that. I just feel like far too many of Hickman's recent Avengers issues have been almost entirely a bunch of heroes standing around talking to each other.
1
u/mbene913 Jun 12 '14
Could have started with the fight then flashback to them talking.
Would work since this whole thing is told nonlinear anyway
4
u/alrighthamilton Jun 12 '14
Is that what makes a comic better? "GET FIGHTS IN THERE!" shouldn't be the biggest influence on these stories. Having them fight at the start and then flashing back (which would have been pointless) also completely ruins the moment at the end when Tony (I'm pretty sure it was Tony, but it could have been someone else) realizes that this is the fight they saw when they were looking into the future.
1
u/mbene913 Jun 12 '14
Well let's see if we ever actually get to the fight.
Next issue could start with them all sitting down talking about the fight.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy build up and character interactions
Btw: I upvoted you because you made a valid point. but I still disagree with you slightly

Nightcrawler #3
6
u/CHUKitu Jun 12 '14
I am absolutely loving the Nightcrawler series; although I may be biased, given Kurt is my favorite comic book character. I think Claremont is a fantastic writer and the art is really great. I can't wait for the next issue. I really like where they are going with this.

u/Dorkside Trask Jun 11 '14
Amazing Spider-Man #1.2
8
u/maxx_nitro Jun 12 '14
I'm hoping we see some Spidey-guilt for him being a bit of a jerk to Clash (Crash?) and it inevitably leading to him becoming a villain.
Decent cliffhanger with Aunt May "discovering Peter's secret" but I don't think there's much doubt that it's a red herring.
2
u/SegataSanshiro Jun 13 '14
Yeah, they're cropping out what she's looking at for a reason. Something along the lines of finding his science stuff and thinking he's doing drug cooking, or maybe finding some stuff from the fighting ring and thinking he's gambling or getting involved in a rough crowd or whatever.

I agree, It isn't amazing at the moment and I dislike how Chase looks but it seems really promising

Kinda bums me out Baron Zemo is back to a straight villian again. Prefered it when he was kind of anti-hero and his civil war/travel through time character devolpment seems wasted now that he's back to running the masters of evil. Also not into the fact they're giving him nazi imagry since his character never was involved with nazis, only via bloodline.
Of course, I'm still totally into seeing him and various other baddies.

Deadpool #30
8
u/FOXHOUND657 Jun 11 '14
Am I the only person who feels beaten over the head with the fact that Deadpool has a wife?
1
u/CHUKitu Jun 12 '14
I haven't been keeping up with Deadpool at all lately - is he married to Death now or is it a different person?
8
3
u/tehawesomedragon Loki Jun 14 '14
He married Dracula's bride-to-be and now he's pissed and Deadpool is fighting alongside a past version of Dazzler against his army of enhanced vamps, "enhamps," while the whole Original Sin thing is happening.

This book is so good, I love that it is using old school issue footnotes and stuff. It feels like there's a real Busiek influence to the storytelling.
Also I love that they show Blade in the 70s wearing his old 70s outfit with the green shades.

Secret Avengers #4

u/Jowser11 Jun 11 '14
First time this book has kind of let me down. I thought it was okay. Needs more Spider Woman.

u/xenoamorist Jun 12 '14
I didn't really get the second epilogue... can someone explain to me what MODOK was saying about Maria not caring, the second time he said it? Like, what made him say that; was it because Maria was interested in weaponizing the Fury? Or was he like... testing her to see if she'd still have the agents in mind when he said that?

Did anyone else read the Original Sin Infinite #1 and #2?

u/arekkusuro Jun 18 '14
started them, but didn't finish 'em. now that i'm done with my to-read list for a while, might finish these up. ://

She-Hulk #5
8
u/Jowser11 Jun 11 '14
The art was...ugh. Bad doesn't begin to describe it.
4
u/xenoamorist Jun 12 '14
I didn't even know the art could get worse, but it did—like, I'm fine with Pulido's work in Hawkeye, but for some reason his art in She-Hulk just doesn't do it for me... Wimberly tried to do interesting foreshortening shots, but they ended up just looking incredibly wonky, like that fucking splash for the first page...
And his graphic storytelling wasn't that great in this issue either; he managed to turn Tigra and Hellcat leaping around a jungle gym, which should be dynamic and action-packed, into panels that were basically two talking heads :/ Ugh. I feel like I wasted money buying this issue, but I'm still interested in the story and I'm a little invested in Angie.
Wimberly's drawing the next issue too, and then it's back to Pulido I think, and I can't believe I'd ever feel relief at Pulido being back on art duties, haha.
1
u/Jowser11 Jun 12 '14
I'm actually one of the people that truly enjoys Pulido's work on She-Hulk, so you can imagine how much I'm aching for him to be back on. The story for this issue was actually really good, but the art was just so distracting. From Tigra's fur looking like TV static, to Shocker's colors. I just disliked it overall.
4
u/centipededamascus Cosmo Jun 12 '14
A lot of people apparently having a problem with the art... Personally I love Ron Wimberly's work. It's got a real sense of life and style to it. He takes risks with angles and such that's pretty rare to see in comic art.
Also the story continues to be really fun, even as it gets a bit darker.

u/Paulitically_Correct Jun 12 '14
Wimberly's art is so dynamic. The Tigra/Hellcat scene was great, but I kind of wished he'd drawn She-Hulk throwing some bows. That last page? Beautiful.

Original Sins #1

u/SegataSanshiro Jun 13 '14
I should have just waited for the Howard the Duck issue.
I'm not a Young Avengers reader and the story here didn't even come close to convincing me, it felt like it was trying way too hard to be "hip with the kids". And this is a two-parter that I have to sit through for another issue? Ugh.
Lockjaw was a really nice pleasant couple pages, but it was just a couple pages.
And Deathlok....yeah. I paid for an advertisement for another book. That sucks.
This issue was a wash. Wouldn't recommend it.
6
u/Ameht Jun 11 '14
I hated the art on this book so much , except for the Deathlok Story and the Lockjaw one, but Originals Sins wasn't even that good as a story.
3
u/jordanFromJersey Jun 12 '14
The Deathlok story was fine, didn't really away me either way. The lockjaw story was cute I guess but did nothing for me. I did really enjoy the Young Avengers story though, as I've been wondering what Nohh-Var's reaction would be ever since Executranix was revealed in Original Sin.
3
u/RelliksBan Jun 12 '14
Honestly wasted my money. Should have just waited for the Howard story. Deathlok story was ok. But that's the extent of it.

Figment #1
3
u/CHUKitu Jun 12 '14
I got this comic this week not really expecting much, but I have always loved the Figment ride at Disney World, so I felt compelled to purchase it. It is a cute read, the art is nice, and there are only going to be 5 issues, which makes it worth it to me.

This was pretty interesting. I love how nostalgic Robinson can get.

u/MrZubaz Jun 12 '14
I've been loving this series but didn't get this one because of the Original Sin tie in (which I'm not planning on reading). Is it heavily tied into Original Sin or is it worth reading on its own?
2
u/Jowser11 Jun 12 '14
It isn't heavily tied in. Pretty far from it actually. It's a story that focuses on Jim since the others are dealing with their own issues. But it's a good continuation. The good thing about Original Sin is that the tie ins are subtle.

All-New Ultimates #3
2
u/notacute Jun 11 '14
I've been kind of iffy on this series, because I think I was expecting more character-work off the bat. I think this issue was a good step in that direction, even if I'm still not completely sold on the series.

Savage Wolverine #20
6
u/indiekindy Jun 12 '14
What is the difference between this and the other wolverine book?
3
u/centipededamascus Cosmo Jun 14 '14
Savage Wolverine focuses on telling short stories by many different writers and artists. Some of them are set in Wolverine's past, some in the present, and one has been set in the future.
