AMA Random road trip AMA!
Just gave up driving duties for a bit on our way out to Las Vegas for this weekends race. Ask me anything!

So, pineapple on pizza. Great topping or greatest topping?
20
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
Brooooo. Yes. But only sometimes or you’ll ruin it. Kinda like that song you listen to 50 times straight.

You ever had Bojangles'?

Lived next to a bojangles in college. Pretty sure I kept that location in business.

Have you ever been to a Menards?
22
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
Not yet! I’ve driven by them a ton though on the way to tracks out in the Midwest.
Have you?
25
Feb 28 '18
YES, it's a life-changing experience. Matt DiBenedetto in his AMA a few weeks ago said he hasn't been to one either, so you guys need to meet up and get to one quickly.
12
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
Sounds like that would make for quite a visit hahaha
2
14
u/spaceblev11 Feb 28 '18
It's a mix between a grocery store and a Home Depot and it's amazing. Also, amazing jingle. SAVE BIG MONEY AT MENARDS!
13
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
The jingle gets stuck in my head EVERY time I watch nascar streams from someone who lives near menards
11
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
Does Matt Crafton live there too
8
u/spaceblev11 Feb 28 '18
Yes and he's also with Brandon Jones, Ryan Blaney and Simon Pagenaud as well.

u/ShadowCammy SC Gang Feb 28 '18
Listen, Jordan, my man, we need to get a Menards opened up in Columbia. Greenville, Charleston, anywhere. It's fantastic and the east needs them.

As a low budget racer, what is your take on the new air wrenches in the Cup Series?
21
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
It’s tough. If they bring it to the truck series it will cost us an abundance of more money since the changers I hire on race weekends bring their own guns with them.
8
u/DaveysMolestache Davey Allison Feb 28 '18
Ha! Just more proof that NASCAR did it to make NASCAR more money, not to save teams money. Thanks for the answer and good luck at Vegas.
2
u/netwreck94 Feb 28 '18
Who wouldn't want to spend $1,200/race just to rent guns that are far less consistent than what your guys use now? Obviously you have a cool ~$30K just burning a hole in your pocket to spend on a cost that's essentially non-existent currently.
5
u/NFS12123 Feb 28 '18
Always wanted to know where drivers put their phones during races.
7
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
I give it to my dad or one of my crew guys to hold. Not tryna get a fine for tweeting during a red flag haha
1
6
u/jetman999 Feb 28 '18
Great to have you on! I’ll ask the same question I do in every driver AMA. What is your favorite kind of pizza?
5
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
Still a NY style cheese guy. But sometimes go for the ham pineapple onions combo.

I wanted that Top 5 bad, was going to try and go to the top side but when Rhodes jumped out it killed my momentum. Then it switched to not wanted to tear our truck up as I was spinning!!
5
Feb 28 '18
Do you eat Whataburger every time you’re in Phoenix or just that one time I met you at like 3AM last November?
10
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
Dude. What an epic night. We had been partying at the track for a bit celebrating our finish that night. Never know where we might turn up.
2
Feb 28 '18
If my brain wasn’t fried after driving 300 miles across the desert after a long workday, I would have chatted more haha. Regardless I root you on whenever I watch the trucks, good luck this year!
1
u/not_tedmusgrave Ryan Blaney Feb 28 '18
...bulk of the series.
1
5
u/TimmyHillFan Feb 28 '18
how much funding would it take for 1 season to be on par with the top Truck teams equipment/engineering-wise?
Also, how much time do you spend reaching out to corporate marketing departments, and is it an effective strategy for a NASCAR team without a lot of mainstream visibility?
8
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
We’re a few million off from those guys still. That’s why Daytona was so special for us.
It really is. With us being a smaller team I’m able to work deals quicker and able to deliver more for less than some of the bigger teams so it works both ways sometimes. I spend a ton of time on the phone from week to week working to execute sponsor and B2B deals.

u/SHAWNNOTSEAN Johnson Feb 28 '18
What other sports do you watch and who are your favorite teams in each?
14
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
I honestly love other forms of racing. F1, IMSA, dirt late models, and asphalt late models. Got to see my first Indy Car race live at Gateway last year and it was amazing.
Footballl would be the Panthers.
6
u/SHAWNNOTSEAN Johnson Feb 28 '18
That’s really cool! I didn’t even know they raced Indy Cars at Gateway. Thanks for answering and good luck to the Panthers next season.
3
u/jawsoflife353 Feb 28 '18
You can run a throwback to any scheme by any driver, any number, any sponsors, etc. What do you do?
7
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
Good question.
I’d want to go back to the 90’s.
Maybe a Ricky Rudd tide throwback, or even go further back and do a Wrangler throwback.
3
u/spaceblev11 Feb 28 '18
How come you were in a Toyota for Daytona then in a Chevy for Atlanta?
14
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
When I bought trucks over the winter to help start my team those were available at a good price and we were able to use them both thanks to the new Ilmor motor package.

Top 20 with a clean truck. By mid-season hope to bump that up to Top 15.
It was tough shipping all the shirts last year so got the guys at DDA to help this year and they are killing it with the new designs.
1
u/DaveysMolestache Davey Allison Feb 28 '18
Their gear is awesome. I wish more drivers used them.
5
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
They’ve been awesome to work with and love the new stuff. Helps so much to make sure stuff gets sent out while the guys and I are on the road.
3
Feb 28 '18
Hey Jordan!
Do you have any advice for me? I'm going into my first season of actual racing this spring, and I am clueless as to what to expect.
3
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
What kind of racing?? Send me a DM or message on Facebook, I’d like to keep up with you!
3

Hi Jordan, who was your idol growing up?

Jeff Gordon

u/TRex_N_Truex Kligerman Feb 28 '18
Have you ever had a can of anything break open inside a suitcase? Man that sucks when it happens.
5
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
Toothpaste. The hardest thing to clean out. I put it in a separate pocket now lol
4
u/TRex_N_Truex Kligerman Feb 28 '18
I actually purchase toothpaste now based solely on the feature if it has a screw on top or not. I learned that one the hard way as well.

2
u/Wildfast88 Feb 28 '18
If you had to rob a bank with 5 different animals, which ones would you choose?
Nice job at Daytona, I get that you're in survival mode but I was really hoping something would happen on the last lap. Good luck at Vegas!

That’s what I’m talking about, one of my all time favorite NASCAR schemes was Bowyers 07

u/brewinghokie Earnhardt Sr. Mar 01 '18
I knew I liked you for some reason. Today I found that reason.
2
u/mikered30 Hamlin Feb 28 '18
is a hot dog a sandwich?
6
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
No.
When I think of a hotdog being a sandwich I think back to when my dad would put a hotdog on a piece of bread and I hated that lol
2
u/yellowcat5 Feb 28 '18
What do you think makes underdogs with essentially backmarker teams favorites to cheer for? Ex. you at the Daytona truck race, Burrito and Gaughan in the 500.
6
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
The challenges that have to be overcome to get there and how much blood/sweat/tears get put into making it all a reality. The whole $193 left in my account was real, put everything last bit I had into building this team and getting it going over the off season, so that’s why it was so special for us to get the year off on a good foot.
2
u/CommanderSealand Feb 28 '18
Favorite burger joint chain?
5
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
Can’t go wrong with McDonald’s.
But if I had my pick I love Red Robin burgers.

Any certain race that you are looking forward to the most this year?
6
1
u/RickyChanning Feb 28 '18
What is your favorite track and why?
7
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
Top 3 would be Daytona, Pocono, and Gateway.
Each have their own unique characteristics, and I’ve got memories/history at each one that are special to me.
3
u/cowboyjosh2010 Blaney Feb 28 '18
Drivers seem to rarely pick Pocono on this kind of question, so as a Pennsylvanian I appreciate that you like it!
2
u/RickyChanning Feb 28 '18
That's cool. I like to watch the races @ Daytona. The plate tracks & road courses are my favorites. I haven't been to a race yet but Pocono & Watkins Glen are the closest to me so hopefully I'll get there soon. You had a good run at Daytona so hopefully you can keep it up. Good luck man. Not many owner/drivers left in this sport.
1
Feb 28 '18
What's your favorite and least favorite race track?
11
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
Eldora is hard on us small teams because you basically trash a perfectly good race truck. The Racing is great but it’s hard to justify costs when you don’t have an abundance of trucks sitting there. I love super speedway/ plate racing. Also mosport is awesome.
1
Feb 28 '18
Thanks for the answer! Huge fan BTW
5
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
Thanks!!! What track do you live near?
2
Feb 28 '18
I usually go to one of the Martinsville and Bristol cup races, but this year I'm also planning on the Martinsville Truck race and the inaugural ROVAL cup race
5
1
u/OhioPride Feb 28 '18
Do you enjoy driving yourself to all the tracks? I watch your story on snap (when I can find it on the new update, haha) and it looks pretty awesome to be able to see the country like that.
1
u/MillardFillmost Stewart-Haas Racing Feb 28 '18
What's on the radio while you're driving? Best of luck this weekend my man and safe travels.
8
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
EDM/Rap/Alt-rock combo at the moment. I use Spotify and soundcloud when we’re on the road.
1
u/tsr6 Checkered Flag Feb 28 '18
and based on how much you're on the road, we now know you've got unlimited data. :-p
7
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
Yeah it’s a must. I tether my laptop so much it’s not even funny :)
3
u/tsr6 Checkered Flag Feb 28 '18
lol, my brother had his laptop on the pit box do a forced Windows Update during the race at Atlanta.
6
1
u/WarriorMan48 Feb 28 '18
How did you save that truck when you spun at the end of the Daytona race? BTW that save was sick!
1
1
u/jtblion Feb 28 '18
Most frustrating experience in a race car?
7
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
I had the gas pedal break at Bristol when I made my Xfinity debut back in 2015. Full throttle at Bristol and still getting passes was frustrating to say the least.
Also with us being a smaller team sometimes we miss our setup and have to fight through a race to keep the truck in one piece. It definitely tests your patience sometimes.
1
u/StayPatchy Feb 28 '18
You can only listen to one album for the rest of your, but it has to have been released in either the 1960s or 2000s. Only those two decades. What are you gonna be listening to?
3
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
Can you give me some options to narrow it down to??
1
u/StayPatchy Feb 28 '18
Hmm, like Abbey Road, Let It Bleed, Beggars Banquet, Bookends, sooo many good options from the 60s, or like The College Dropout, American Idiot, Demon Days, A Rush if Blood to the Head, basically an album from the 60s or 2000-2010. Hah
7
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
I owned the American Idiot cd as a kid growing up.
I’d have to say one of 3 doors down album. I loved their stuff growing up and still do.
1
u/StayPatchy Feb 28 '18
Can’t go wrong with 3 doors down!
And thanks for doing the AMA, being part of our community, being a driver, but really just for being you. Pulling for you man!

Yup. I broke down there once on the way to Eldora.
1
u/Blazethesol52 Feb 28 '18
What was going through your head when you crossed the finish line sideways on the last lap at Daytona. Were you more nervous about saving the car or excited about the top 10, or even slightly disappointed about losing a few spots
3
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
Truck in one piece > wrecked truck
Bummed we didn’t get a Top 5, but it was still an incredible night for us.

Hi thanks for doing this! Favorite paint scheme that you’ve run?
6
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
This years scheme might be my favorite so far. The original 74 from back in 2015 was also a really cool one because of the story behind it.
1
Feb 28 '18
You can't leave us hanging like that, bud. Tell us the story.
6
u/jordanandersonracing Jordan Anderson Feb 28 '18
Sponsor that helped me get to Daytona for the first time and basically helped kick start my career.... Tri-Analytics. Based the scheme on his logo. It was just a once race deal but I loved the way it looked so I kept it the rest of the year.
1
u/buckshotjones00 Kyle Petty Feb 28 '18

I’d like to be racing in the Cup series :)
But probably something in marketing or starting up my own business of some sort. I went to school and have a degree in biz management and a minor in marketing.

How much do you sleep on a typical night? I follow your snapchat account and it seems like you are awake for dang near 20 hours most days--I don't know how you do it!
How many vehicles are traveling in your westward bound convoy? I can't imagine your whole crew crams into that one Chevy truck--crew cab or not.
