Trying to get this kind of blurry resin print – anyone done something like this?

I’m working on a project and I’m obsessed with this kind of translucent, blurry resin look – like the one in the pic. Anyone know what techniques or materials give this kind of finish? Is it a certain type of resin? Sanding trick?

Also, if you have any non-3D printing suggestions to get a similar aesthetic, I’m all ears. Open to trying anything – casting, painting, layering, whatever!

I hate to mix paints by hand so... I've decided to design an easy to print motorized paint shaker and I couldn't be happier with the result. I've made the model available on Cults.

Troubleshooting Ender 3 Max clogging, hours into each print

Upvotes

Title says it all. Every print that takes long enough (4-6+ hours) eventually fails when, I’m assuming, the hot end clogs, and then the filament grinds away till it’s nearly cut in half. I come to check on the print and the nozzle is in mid air, not depositing any filament. I have so far replaced:

The extruder

The extruder stepper

The hot end fan

The mobo fan

The Capricorn tube

Multiple nozzles

Multiple filaments

My biggest hunch is heat creep. I do not have an all metal hot end. The printer is in an enclosure but the door is wide open.

Printing PLA at 209/55

I’d pull my hair out if I had any. Thanks for reading.

Any other thoughts are appreciated

Project Can this be considered a 3DBenchy remix? If so, what should it be named?

Hey everyone! I have been working on something really fun, taking the classic 3DBenchy and giving it a creative twist by using spools (mostly cardboard), spool boxes, and printable parts. The project was built with no glue, relying entirely on connectors, and it has been great to see how it has been completed using materials I had lying around, including leftover/excess filaments. If you are into reusing materials and want to try something a bit different, this could be a fun project to dive into!

For those interested, here is the project link in the comments. I am looking forward to your thoughts!

How many connectors should be printed? Probably more than you would expect for this scale. I did not bother counting, and honestly, I would not want to. (Going to provide the number this week...)

How long does the assembly take? It is much quicker than printing the parts! If everything is ready, it takes about 30 minutes tops.

Is it solid enough to stay that way? I cannot promise it will stay perfect forever, but it has been proudly displayed in the office for a week now, and it is still holding strong.

Can it swim? Yes, but only in pieces.

How hard would it be to 3d print some frames for eyeglasses if I have a pair I can use as a template?

Also, is it possible to 3D print using acetate?

Question on 3d printing car parts HELP!

Upvotes

Heyy everyone!!! 👋 I am new to this community. I am relatively new to 3d printing. I have a bambu labs A1 and a crealityK1. I want to start printing some items to use in on my car. Note. these aren't very compelx or crucial car components. It's mainly things like those cheap plastic screws that hold the covers and stuff. I wanted to ask what would be the best material to print these items with. I know PLA is not recommended for this use and I do live in south Texas where the climate is very hot and humid. If anyone has any experience or any suggestions on what material would be best and what printer I should use I would greatly appreciate it. HAVE A NICE DAY!!!

Print bed level error 3DWOX DP200 EC312

Upvotes

I got a 3DWOX DP200 for free but there seems to be some issues with it and I want to know if there are ways to go about fixing it. I am already aware of the proprietary filament issue but I saw a post of using 3d party filaments so I’m not worried about that. The error I have with mine is it‘s throwing the error code EC312 which relates to the print bed leveling sensor. It says to reboot it which I have multiple times but that is not fixing the issue. Parts aren’t available for this printer anymore and I’d be open to attempting modifications to it.

Troubleshooting New to 3D Printing, before I go down the rabbit hole of bed levelling etc, I thought I'd ask here as there might be a simple solution.

Upvotes

I picked up an Crealty Ender V3 SE about a week ago, and honestly it's been great. I've printed some nice, and some quite detailed parts without any issue.

I've noticed today though that when printing it's been catching and dragging the initial outline it puts down for the brim or skirt (I think) and it just creates a mess, which I then cancel.

I have levelled the bed, as it has auto levelling, everything comes back green, and some spots are even perfectly level, but it was still happening.

I've just set something to print a few minutes ago (same model which was failing over and over again) and the only changes were to increase the heated bed from 60 to 80 and the PLA from 200 to 225 (max). I also read to print nearer the edge, so I've dragged the model nearer the front edge of the bed.

The printer seems to work perfectly just as long as it's able to make the initial outline of the shape.

Is there something else I should be doing?

- I've tightened the bed screws.
- I've made sure the gantry is square on each corner.
- I've checked the bar the extruder is on, which is also level.
- The bed itself is also level.
- I level the bed after each print via the auto levelling.

The print itself is setting a z-axis of about -2.47 (iirc).

Am I better off to follow one of those videos that use a piece of paper or is it possible it was just down to the PLA cooling too quickly before being able to adhere to the bed?

Appreciate any help.

Thanks.

how long would it take to make this in 3d and it would say, 5 to 6 inches in size?

Upvotes

I am learning what causes humans to age, experiences diseases and then die. The basics need to be met and if I am to teach the public how to slow the aging process and live longer, I need to show them the basics of the cell. I though this illustration of a cell, would be a good starting point. NOW can this 2d be made into a 3d print with ai? https://www.britannica.com/science/vacuole

Looking for a decent paint on primer

Upvotes

Hey guys!

So I've recently gotten into 3D printing and have managed to prep some models to a decent point, unfortunately I'm struggling to find a decent primer that isn't spray so I haven't been able to start painting yet. As of this moment in time, I can't really take prints outside to spray and I don't have the ventilation to risk spraying indoors. I've been trying to research but it seems best to ask the people here with all sorts of experience :)

I don't mind pricey if that ends up being the case for a good result, but all suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I used an ender 5+ (firmware version 1.70. 2 BL) with a bl-touch upgrade. I used Creality's Golden PLA (which has been in a dehydrator). I printed the model at 200°C nozzle, 60°C bed at around 15% speed or 69 mm/s.

Prusa Core?

Upvotes

Hi hi, I’m kinda new to 3D printing and looking to get a unit for home. I’ve been doing 3D mechanical design for 12 years and recently I’ve started designing more with print in mind (rather than machining). I have a bambu x1 carbon on my desk at work that is remarkably fast and impressive. It’s pretty cool to be able to model in Solidworks and prototype something in minutes or hours.

I’m tempted to get one for home, but the little I do know about anything, I like the ethic and reputation of Prusa. I had a chance to try the MK3 and it seemed pretty sweet. But not nearly as fast and outta the box easy to use as the bambu. Is the Core a good option? Any other recommendations?

Appreciate it, thanks! ✌️
