Falken for the win.

Got in a precarious position yesterday between a sharp rock and a ledge and very little wiggle room. I thought for sure if my tire hit the rock I’d be done. Pretty deep scratch into the wheel but tire didn’t even notice. Falken definitely worth the price IMO.

1988.5 Suzuki Samurai For Sale

Hello! I don’t know if anyone is in the market but figured I would throw this up in case someone is looking.

I have a 1988 that I, unfortunately, need to sell. I put it up on BAT and there are a few days left.

AWD with lockable center diff

So, I’m trying to learn more about this stuff and would appreciate if someone can help me clarify some doubts.

Essentially, is an AWD with a lockable center diff the “best” system out there?

The way I understand it: - Problem with standard AWD: you can run into situations where a wheel that lost traction gets all the torque. - Problem with standard 4x4: you are effectively driving 2x4 unless transfer case is engaged.

From my ignorance, an AWD with a lockable center diff that allows 4x4 to be engaged temporarily would have the best of both world, no?

This makes sense to me, but then I see the vehicles out there and mostly are either one or the other. There probably something that I’m missing…

Thanks everyone!

building my flatbed

hey, I need some advice from some more experienced 4x4 builders. I'm planning on making a flatbed on my daihatsu rocky pickup, the previous owner builded one from a small military trailer so it was far from "stock" when I bought it. my concern is the height of the bed above the rear wheel, too low and it will rub while driving offroad, too high will move my center of mass (and will look a little weird). long story short, how can I best take some measurements before starting to build? thanks

Seeking Information - Bumper Setup

Thumbnail

I’ve been interested in Baja trucks for a while and I own a Tundra. I’ve seen this style of bumper setup and I have a few questions. I appreciate any information y’all can provide me.

  1. What exactly are those gold circles on the bumper? Is this factory bumper with modifications or something aftermarket?

  2. Is the style of tube bumper available anywhere online for purchase? I see these a bunch and I know they’re pretty easy to custom make but I don’t know anybody who does fabrication and I cannot do fabrication myself at the moment.

Old video.

Flex questions

Any tips on how to get more flex out of my '92 Toyota Land Cruiser? I have a 2-inch Ironman lift and 35s, which I'm installing in a week or two. I just need some tips while I'm down there installing the lift.

Best budget MT 35/15

Looking for a good budget 35 for a 15 inch rim on a TJ. I don’t wheel much now due to relocation so off-road ability isn’t as important. I do have 4.88’s and lockers so I’m not budging from the 35inch or MT option.

seeking AWD build up suggestions

I know this sounds like a bad idea, but I have always wanted to take some kind of crossover SUV without low range but has amazing traction control, possibly lift it and take it on trails to go fishing or camping. I have thought of the first generation Toyota highlander, Subaru ascent, forester or Tribeca, I love the new Honda Passport, originally Land Rover Freelander, Volkswagen Tiguan or Taos. I've seen a few muddy highlanders. Every trail around me is a combination of mud and rocks.

1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee battery/electrical issue?

Hey all, I have a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I bought a couple months ago. A few weeks ago it would die after sitting for a few hours so I installed a new battery and replaced the terminals last week. Everything was fine but a couple days ago I tried turning it on after it sat overnight and it wouldn’t start. No clicking sound and no lights turned on, I connected it to my battery jump pack and it started so I assume it’s something battery or electrical related. Any suggestions on where to start before I just throw parts at it?

Understanding which type of vehicle is for me and what i wish to accomplish based on my preferred experience

Hello. English is not my first language so i'll try me best to convey my point.

My budget is 3000usd to 5000usd for a new vehicle and i am living in the united states.

I love nature. I want to go camping, see trees taller than apartments, find cool insects and lizzards and spiders and butterflies deep in a forest, find beautiful colorful flowers, swim in the lakes and oceans looking at cool fishes and dolphins and sharks and crabs, and sleep in a cave in a mountain. I am also 20. I want to collect snails and catapillars in a jar.

I want to visit family across the country while taking large unnecessary detors venturing into national forests, climbing mountains and driving on fire service routes.

Questions Is deep wilderness exploration worth it? Is it worth to take your jeep wrangler 6 hours into a forest to find a cool hidden camping spot under a waterfall?

If so, is driving a high ground clearance large 4x4 worth it interms of fuel economy and handling?

Handling- i like agility and speed.

A large capable 4x4 is the complete opposite. (Can i tune it for daily street travel)

Can i take an adventure motorcycle bike instead and still expect to traverse technical offroad terrain?

Will it be fun to drive an adventure bike across the country? Am i cooked if theres a thunder storm?

Is a subaru rally car with high ground clearence a reasonable in-between? Speed agility enclosure but the least offroad capable?

To find what i am looking for, do i really even need to go offroad?

I am comfortable doing multi day backpacking trips on rough terrain but if i see a 4x4 or a dirt bike zoom past me i will kill myself.

What vehicle will help me find what I'm looking for.

Also driving to, or in a city, parking is expensive. Is it cheaper for a motorcycle. If im willing to walk 45 minutes from my parking spot is it still expensive?

Pajero, Gwagon, or Land Cruiser to explore Europe?

Good evening, y’all. I just moved to Italy and am looking to purchase an adventure rig to explore Europe. Ideally, it would be a 2003 or older so I can ship it back to the states.

From my research, I have narrowed it down to two contenders, the Mitsubishi Pajero or Toyota Land Cruiser 100 series with the 4.2.

My only concern is paying $15,000 to $20,000 for a Land Cruiser when they are 30 years old. Just crazy of me they are that expensive.

Any advice would be appreciated! Open to other models as well.
